I mean...who cares about the subtle difference in sound? You're gonna Tweak them anyway; right, to sound different? I was offered the tr09, and RD8 but I got the TR-08 and "thought about buying the RD9" recently. The RD9 won't be delivered until AUGUST 😡 So I canceled the order. Ran back to the TR09 but that's DISCONTINUED and price gouged. Smh. I'll load 808,909,707,606 into my SP404MKII and call it a day.
In 1987, I went into Andertons (the old 'Haydon Place' shop) to buy a Roland TR-505 but they didn't have any in stock at that time. Went to Soho Soundhouse in London instead where they had a grubby second-hand TR-909 for the same price as brand new TR-505's..... and I still bought the TR-505 ! Doh !!!
They both sound different to each other but still I can't prefer one from another. I think the biggest difference with hardware is that you will have much much more fun programming rhythms than using a mouse
To do this properly you should randomly change A and B between the two sound sources. Also, can he hear you pressing the two different devices, buttons and mouse?
Thanks for watching EN, we did switch it up and he couldn’t here the buttons - not saying we were scientific or anything but we at least did what you said my G ✊
They seem very near, but when the sequence is played the real machine is sounding far better than the software. And music is not playing each instrument separately, it's playing patterns. The machine clearly wins the battle. On HH and cymbals it is hard to tell because like the rim shot it is mostly noise. But for example the kick of the machine is so strong, so full compared to the kick of the software, so weak, so hollow. In all cases, Roland Cloud is programmed by deaf IT, no more built by passionate electronic engineers, and the sound is no more the Roland one.
The hats and rides are samples based so it’s natural that they should sound extremely similar. Otherwise it’s pretty clear that it’s easy to tell the two apart.
I compared my 303 to the Logic 9 monophonic Basssynth. Both sound different of course, but the software is not sounding thinner or like a „computer“! I was surprised. But the 303 sounds more interesting.
Just remember it isn’t unlikely that this whole video was staged. After all, Andertons are not making these videos for fun, they are trying to sell stuff.
🤣 I’m glad you think that we might go to that much effort!! No but seriously, no staging - the shop sells both things so it’s win win - no incentive to lie. Thanks for watching anyways Jos ✊
Good point Mr R and thanks for watching - the buttons where genuinely super quiet and I only had to lightly touch them - thanks for keeping us honest none the less mate and thank you for the kind words Xx
Dear Behringer, this instrument is unplayable, i much apreciate the "wave designer", but if you dont have space to respect the original distance between the knobs, drop these "nu" feartures for more real estate to the original functions. it's impossible to jam and use the knobs for muting instruments, A la original TR909 every time you're doing a live act and jam by fadding instruments it's almost impossible to do it without touching the adjacent knobs. my honest sugestion, in case you "HEAR US" is that you offer some kind of replacement knobs, or at least for the cost of manufacturing, only a set per rd-9 serial number maybe, i dont know. These knobs, as they grow tall, they should be slimmer on the tops of the knobs making it so there is more space between them where you grab them. is it awesome for such affordable clone? of course yes... but if it's impossible to do a propper live jam without touching other knobs, it makes the instrument as-a-full-clone worthless. i know, i can remove the tuning knobs before starting a set sure, but there's still the question of the HIGH TOM, RIM, CLAP volumes being way to close together.. ill probable commit myself to a mental hospital if you ever thing about making a "boutique" version... are the knobs going to be glued together hahahah :D it's almost impratical for us, end users to manufacture such knobs without wasting a TON of money, so please behringer, fix this. Im posting this comment in every rd-9 video in hope someone from behringer reaches out, if you're the owner of this video and somewhat agree, pin it so there's more chances or someone from behringer to see this.
Its great though because in the end, he's guessing. That's what all emulation showdowns generally come down to, a 50/50 guess. If that's the case, then it doesn't matter what wins or loses, it means the user has no real idea. The emulation wins.
But he wasn't randomly guessing. He pretty much knew each one (minus a couple) ...It's surprisingly easy to tell, especially when the full sequence was playing. No need to even hesitate or guess in that round. The cloud sounded like garbage.
@@happylittlesynth But you could also make the argument that just because he got some correct, doesn't mean he wasn't still guessing them. He could've just guessed them right. ;) (People win the game heads or tails all the time by guessing. Its called statistical outcome.) If it was surprisingly easy to tell then why didn't he get them all right?
@@anthonybrett you seem to be focused on him guessing with zero evidence. You're not him. The reason he didn't get them all right is because some are very close (like the noise based ones)...but the others he nailed. The cloud is ok, does a decent job. But it's clear which is which when the pattern is going. He does have an idea. That you cannot argue. Nice chattin!
@@happylittlesynth "You're not him." I know, but you're not him either, so how do you know? You said "It's surprisingly easy to tell" so if its surprisingly easy, how can you fuck it up unless you're incompetent. You also contradicted yourself. In your first post you said "the cloud sounded like garbage." and then you just said "the cloud is ok, does a decent job." ...so which is it? Nice chattin.
