This video will show you step by step how to hook up any Behringer X32 model to your computer and then use it in a recording studio environment. We use the X32 producer as our example but the things we learn apply to any X32 model.
In this video, we do a firmware update, We also download and install the drivers for windows. We set up the Behringer app and explain how to control the Behringer X32 Producer from our PC using the ethernet port. We do a basic walkthrough of the app. We also download free software for recording multiple tracks of audio onto your computer using the USB port.
I show two sets of drivers to download. One set is for the X-USB card that comes with the mixer by default and the other set is for the USB X- live audio interface. Both audio interface cards have the same USB 2.0 ports. You don't need both sets of drivers, but installing both sets won't cause any hardware conflicts. Since I don't know what card you have in the back of your mixer just install the driver set you need. For a little extra money, you can purchase an X-live expansion card. This card has the same USB port but it also has two SD card slots that allow you to record multiple tracks of audio from within the mixer without using a computer.
This video is the third video in a series about learning how to use the Behringer mixer. The information in this video builds on the other videos. During the course of this video, I use the Behringer X32 Producer.

@@marcuscurtismusic I recently purchased a bunch of audio equipment for myself I started out with the XR 18 mixer that I set up at my church for my percussions after which I purchased a XR 32 rack for the sole purpose of learning how to work digital mixing consoles. I wanted to learn how to route and become very familiar with working with digital as I used to work an analog board at my church. I started buying other equipment from Behringer. Like the DP 48 the P 16 the SD 16 and my latest acquisition is the Behringer Wing. @marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 3 года назад
Yes, the New updates are amazing. I chose to use Cakewalk for this video because it is free without any limitations and that is really remarkable. People seem to like free as long as it has good quality. Cakewalk itself is not outdated. It is still developed and they have added many new features. It is not the same cakewalk program they had 5 years ago. Maybe that is why they changed the name from Sonar to Cakewalk. It was really hard to stop calling it Sonar during the recording of these videos. Abelton Live and FL STUDIO's are good programs. You may also like Reaper. Cubase, Logic, Studio 1, and Pro Tools. They are all great programs too. The only problem is these programs will cost me money. Then I would need to become familiar with them. At one point long ago I used many of them, but I am sure they all changed since then. Here's a tip. If you have Cakewalk installed, open up a new project. Go to view at the top and click on Matrix View. A grid will open up similar to what is found in the Ableton Push 2 software controller instrument. If you like Ableton you might find that great for playing loops. You can use act inside of sonar and custom program most hardware. These days I only use Cakewalk. I don't have the money to invest in the other DAWs. My RU-vid channel and website are not about making money. That is why I don't have commercials or monetize anything. My website has no commercials, no tracking, and no account or email required. I just put information out there about the gear I use. I am glad you like the new updates for the X32, compared to 2015 they are really amazing.

Hey Marcus! Thanks for the video. I have a question, is the audio from the audio interface pre or post fader? I ask this because I'm trying to improve my mixing skills, so I try to record the Sunday services at my church and then analyze the mix at home and see where to improve. This question has been bothering me because for some of the channels the recorded audio is loud and for others, it's very quiet, I think this might be because of my gain-staging?

I do have a troubleshooting video but let's go through some steps that will help diagnose the problem. What we are going to do is this. We are going to make sure the computer works with the Behringer X32 then we will check Cakewalk. We will do this through a series of steps. Step 1` Make sure the Behringer is connected to the computer via USB and ethernet cable as outlined in this video. step 2 make sure you have downloaded the most current drivers. I am assuming you are using a PC. If you have a Mac you don't need to download drivers. step 3 make sure you have the app. On the PC there is no install program just copy and paste. Step 4 Turn on the Behringer X32 after it is connected to the computer. We are going to see if the computer sees the mixer. step 5 Hover your mouse over the start button and right-click on the start button. In the menu select device manager. step 6 when the device manager opens up you should see a speaker at the top underneath the word desktop. Click on that speaker and look for the Behringer mixer. If you don't see the mixer then you have a driver issue. Nothing will work until you fix it. Keep in mind that different sets of drivers go with different sets of firmware updates. This means if you have the latest firmware update then you need the latest drivers. If you have an older firmware but the newest set of drivers then that could cause issues as well. These things work in sets. step 7 If everything checks out then start the Behringer app and connect to the mixer. If you can successfully connect then that means the problem is in Cakewalk. You should also know that if you have the latest drivers and firmware then you will also need the latest Behringer app. these things work in sets. the newest app won't work if you have older drivers and firmware. Step 8 If everything checks out and the mixer now works with the computer it is time to start cakewalk. Once Cakewalk is open hit the P key on your keyboard to open up preferences. Step 9 in the preferences window under audio select the playback and recording tab. in the driver mode box select ASIO then hit apply. Next click on the audio tab and you should now see your mixer. select all the tracks you want to use. If you have another device that is selected under ASIO then the x32 will be greyed out. You will need to unselect your other device before you can select your mixer. I have more troubleshooting in the playlist that this video is in. check out the rest of the playlist for more troubleshooting with Behringer and Cakewalk. From the fourth video on you will see the rest of the tips. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--QlIy1DxwUQ.html

Hey there When in audio interface mode, does it completely disable the mixer? by that I mean does it make it a standalone audio interface? or?, Meaning can you still mix regularly? (analog in and out, also digital) Sorry if my question is too confusing, basically what I'm asking is if for instance you hook it up as an audio interface and want to do live mixing can you still do that? (without doing controls in a daw of some sort) Basically we just need the interface part of it... extracting a digital audio source from an app (just an example) and just using the mixer as an input source for that and mix with it.
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
Yes, it can be a digital mixer with the added support of an audio interface. This is how many people use the mixer. They are really two separate things. This is why The audio interface section has a separate 32 channels in and 32 channels out. So you can still do live mixing and record a band or an event and also record everyone on separate tracks at the same time. This is how the mixer is set up from the factory by default. However, the minute you press the DAW Remote button it leaves from being a live mixer to a recording console that can be used to control DAW applications like Cakewalk. This allows you to control Cakewalk from the mixer itself. You will lose the live mix function. So long story made short, It does both functions. It can be a live mixer used to record a band or it can be a recording console used to control a DAW.

That is correct kind of. The X32 contains the audio interface for your DAW. The audio interface is built into the X32 but it is still independent from the mixer.

@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 3 года назад
On the standard Behringer X32, you only get a two-channel recorder. In order to record in multitrack, you need the upgraded card. Which is also known as the live card. The card takes two 32 gig SD cards. You record on those cards. I don't have that card. you raise a good proposition. I will see what I can do to obtaining that card and doing an install video and showing how to record on the X32 internally. I will begin budgeting for this today. I think I have seen them on Sweetwater

Hello Marcus, thank you so very much for taking the time to make these tutorials. They are very valuable to a lot of people like me. My problem is I am still not able to get sound from X32 board to my Windows and Mac computers. I installed the X-USB driver as suggested. My Windows computer recognizes the X-USB connection, however I can't seem to hear or get any sound in computer coming from the X32 X-USB card. Other than routing, did you have to change any settings in the Global tab? I am trying to capture my livestreaming sound coming out of busses 11 and 12 into OBS.
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
When you use an audio interface like the Behringer X-32 with your PC your hardware configuration changes. The X-32 becomes the sound card. Therefore, in order to hear audio playback, you will need to plug headphones into the Behringer or connect speakers to the main outs or the monitor outs. To troubleshoot we need to go through a process of elimination. 1. We know that the drivers work and they are downloaded, but did you download the app and see if that works too? You need to connect through the ethernet port to get the app to work. That way you can control the X 32 from your computer and that saves you time running back and forth from the computer to the mixer while you troubleshoot. You can control everything from your computer. 2. To verify that the X-32 is working properly select it as the default playback device. This could be done in two ways. Go to the bottom right-hand corner of the computer screen and click on the little speaker icon. You should see a TRIANGLE ARROW THINGY (I know that term is technical, that is the official name) Click on that and select the X-32 as your default device. The other way is to go into the control panel, click on sound, and select it as the default device from there. 3. Once that is done open up Groove Player and playback an audio file. If no audio is playing back then address it in the routing section. Remember that the outputs of the USB card must be routed back into the mixer in order to hear any audio. Once you hear audio coming from the mixer you know that it is working properly with your computer. 4. At this point, if you still do not hear audio within OBS then the problem lies with a setting in OBS. In many cases, OBS automatically sets up to use your default sound card. But in this case, you still need to set up the Beringer to work in OBS. Once you select the X-32 in settings/audio in OBS you only have an option for a single stereo connection for inputs and outputs. Therefore you will need to route accordingly.

@@marcuscurtismusic Good morning Sir! First of all, thank you so very much for you time. I am not trying to playback audio from the computer to the mixer. I am trying to get audio from the mixer to the computer. I did download the app but have not used it. I was thinking that X-USB driver alone would do the trick. To no avail, I've done pretty much everything you mentioned except for the app. Any suggestions with routing section of the board? and why does the X-USB card show on the computer as 1 and 2 as oppose to more inputs or outputs. I am thinking that the issue may be with the x32 board settings or routing because I also do not get audio into garageband even though I see all 32 inputs and output channels.
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
@@danielalexis9409I have used OBS, In fact, I use it to do my screen capture. The 1 and 2 that you see is not a limitation to The X-32 or something in the routing. Typically Windows is limited when it comes to default sound cards. It only has two channels in and two channels out in the device manager. The same holds true when you set up the Behringer as your default sound card. All my audio interfaces do this. This is regardless of the number of outputs or the settings on your Behringer X-32 card. Therefore it will only show 1, (left), and 2 (right). Your main outputs are generally used as the input source for the computer. This is why some people set their Behringer X-31 USB card up as 2 in and 2 out. A DAW application like Garage Band or Cakewalk will see all the inputs and outputs in your configuration. That is why you see 32 tracks in Garageband. If you are using the X32 producer and you only have 16 channels on your X-32 producer board you will still only see 32 channels in the recording software. The reason for this is because The USB card has 32 inputs and outputs in addition to the 16 inputs you see on the mixer. You can route any input channel on the mixer to any channel on the USB card. OBS will only see 2 inputs. This is a limitation that is found in OBS, not the Behringer. In the Audio settings section of OBS, you should be able to select only two inputs. Generally, those inputs are coming from the main left and right outputs from the Behringer. You route everything through those outputs. Because the USB inputs and outputs are actually separate from the other 40 input and outputs on the mixer you must route the USB outputs back into some of your inputs in order to hear the audio playback. When you playback music from the computer you are going through two inputs on the mixer. This is where routing comes into play. The reason to hear music playing back in your computer via USB is to determine if there are any issues in the routing. It is for troubleshooting only. I do that to spot issues. If you are playing a song on your computer and it is playing back through the Behringer you know there are no issues with the routing. Even though you are trying to get audio from the mixer you will still need a way to monitor that audio. In the case of using OBS for live streaming, you would plug headsets into the Behringer and route the audio back into the mixer. Watch my video on troubleshooting for more details on how to do this. The routing information is in the last part of the video. there is also routing information in my video called Recording a Track Using The Behringer. It is a little more detailed. The routing examples in those two videos should address your issue. I think I need to produce a video to address your issue, It is better to see the solution, but it will be a while because I am in the middle of production on several other videos addressing questions people have. But I will make a video about the Behringer and OBS as soon as I am able.

I am sure there is but to be honest I have always recorded everything dry so I am not sure how to select effects on the mixer to record with. You can use the dynamic effects built into the channel strip like compression, eq, and noise gate. If you want to record the effects on the mixer, another thing you can do is to plug a cable from the monitor outs into one of the inputs on the board. the problem with this approach is you need to use headphones or you will get really bad feedback. I have many great VST plugins. I would rather use those over the ones provided in the mixer. there are many good ones that are free.

Marcus, Bless you man! You are a light in darkness. Thank you Sir for your patient detailed help, though a highly complicated subject matter, You are light in darkness. I have Logic Pro X installed on my Mac. Question: After I have completed the steps 1, 2, 3 described in your video: Download Drivers, Download App, Update Firmware -since my software is already loaded, which is your step 4, Download Recording Software, what is or are there any additional step(s) required?? You discuss use of Garageband,, and mention Logic (19:08) however there's nothing specific from that point. Are the down load instructions for Logic the same as Garageband, since they both are Apple/Mac compatible?? Do you have any tutorials of X32 and Mac operation?? Thank You!
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic Год назад
Although I think Macs are great computers I don't actually own one. So making any tutorial about doing this with a Mac would be difficult. However the same steps do apply to Macs. Since you already have logic and you already have the Behringer app you have everything you need. You just need to make sure that Logic can see your Behringer and it is selected as the default audio interface. Anything I do in Cakewalk can be repeated in Logic and it just so happens that Logic is one of the best platforms out there. The whole idea is to try to do this on a budget without spending any money. In order to do this we need to use the gear we already own be it a windows PC or a Mac. In addition to this we need to use the free software that is already available. While garage band is free it is limited to what Cakewalk can do. Logic can do everything Cakewalk can do but it costs 199.00. That is a fair price when it is compared to other DAW platforms out there but it still costs money. Another approach for Mac users would be to use a Free DAW program called Waveform Free. It also does everything Cakewalk does and it is a great program. If you want information about recording tracks with effects built into the mixer or other recording tricks then check out the new series on this channel. New videos are currently in production. www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free

Works fine. Is it possible to user USB2 from the X32 rack and plug into the same PC to record some of those channels on the same PC with Cubase?
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic Год назад
I am not sure if this is possible. One issue you may run into is the driver type. The Behringer x32 uses ASIO driver technology. The problem with this is ASIO only allows you to use one hardware device at a time. The bios in the rack unit may be slightly different than the bios in the hardware mixer. Cubase and other DAW applications may limit the use. Both mixers should show up in the configuration section of the DAW but one set may be greyed out and you won't be able to select them. Some people have recommended ASIO4all. This is a type of driver built on the WDM model and it is good for kernel streaming but there are issues regarding this and you may have several issues as you record multiple tracks.

OK the live sound engineer way of using all effects into your DAW from the X32. You'll need two balanced jacks to male xlrs , your main monitors out are going to the monitors(?) Take the jack outs and run them to 2 channels on the X32 I used 13 and 14. On these two channels you must turn the main outs off or down (feedback if you don't) OK For DAW recording you can leave the faders down. Pipe in some stuff from your pc from youtube or anything and you should see the meters light up. On your Buss's you set the effects up I use stereo so 1 and 2 are delay 3 and 4 Reverb 5 and 6 sre a chorus 7 and 8 are the guitar amp So anything you hear on your monitors will be fed to 13 and 14. Open up Mixbus 6 or any DAW and arm these two tracks inputs, you will now be recording all the effects from you bus sends As a lead guitarist when tracking I must hear the delay and reverb as I do the take to play in time. @@eduardsanderschothorst137 Yes it is, but you can use any inputs you want. Just make one odd number for left and one even for right. This is what you would do if you wanted to use the effects built into the mixer and apply them to a recorded track. It also has the advantage of taking what would normally be a mono track like a guitar and making it a stereo track.

Question: I have no issue recording instruments in Ableton but how on earth would you record voice in Ableton because the MAIN slider (at the very right) controls both the input level in an Ableton track AND the volume of the sound = LARSEN effect (speakers are on!) . I just can't figure out how to disable the speakers when using headphones and the MAIN slider when using a MIC.
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 2 года назад
Are the speakers plugged into the monitor outs or are they plugged into the main outs? If they are plugged into the monitor outs then hit the view button next to the monitor level out. In there you will see something called Monitor source. Select off to turn off your monitors. You can also do this from the app. There is also an option to separate the monitor speakers from the main fader.

There are a few things that can cause problems. Troubleshooting is always a process of elimination. Make sure your computer is plugging directly into the mixer. Don't use a USB hub or anything like that. Try a USB 2.0 port first If you don't have one then use USB 3.0. The 3.1 USB ports may cause issues in some cases if you have older firmware. Hopefully you have at least 8 gigs of ram. Make sure you turn off all the software operating in the background and disconnect from the internet if possible. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your X-32. Does the Behringer app work? The Ethernet connection on the X32 needs to be plugged into the computer for the app to work. trying using the app before you use the USB port. That may rule out a hardware conflict. Check device manager and see if there are any errors when the mixer is hooked up. Start by opening up device manager then click on the Audio inputs and outputs option to unfold that area. when you plug the mixer in it should register in there. Now hook up the X32 and see what that does. If you get yellow triangles with exclamation points that would mean there is some sort of hardware conflict. let me know of your progress and include your system specs for troubleshooting.

I only use external preamps in the signal path when connecting mics and instruments. I like some of the tube preamps on the market and sometimes I prefer those for acoustic guitar. However, since I purchased the Behringer I find the Midas preamps built stock into the X32 are really good. 500 series modules are great. If I had that hardware I would probably only use it in the signal path going to the mixer. There are ways to connect this kind of hardware to the Behringer via insert. Hardware like the neve 543 could be connected in this manner but I have never done it. I wish I had a better answer for you. Maybe I should research this and make a video about this topic. my biggest issue right now is lack of time.

@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
I have used an i3 processor with 8 gigs of ram. Even though this works, the number of tracks I could record was limited. I would suggest a minimum of 8 gigs of ram and an i5 processor with about 50 gigs of hard drive space. For the best performance use an i7 with about 16 gigs of ram. Cakewalk really takes advantage of hyperthreading and i7 architecture. Get a good graphics card if you are also going to do video editing. A gaming card like GeForce should work well. If you are buying a new computer for this then you are looking at a price range starting a little over 600.00 for the minimum requirements You can also get an external drive just for recording music. In this case, Cakewalk would record straight to that drive while recording live. these days you can pick up a 2 terabyte external drive anywhere between 60 to 70 dollars. If you get stuck on anything let me know. I am here to help you. You're gonna love recording with your X32.

Just wondering why you have to install the x live card drivers - I thought you only needed the usb asio driver ?
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
I should have clarified this better, but there are two types of USB cards that are available for the back of the X32 mixer. The first is the standard USB card and the second one is the USB live card. The live card has two sd card inputs allowing you to record directly from within the mixer. If you have the first card you would need the first set of drivers and if you have the USB live card you would need the live drivers. Since I don't know which card a viewer may have on his mixer, I tried to make it easy by having people download both sets of drivers. Either way, the USB will work. There is no conflict between having both drivers installed. If you have the standard USB card then you really don't need the live driver package. But if you have the live card the standard drivers won't work. I thought about changing this part of the video after it was uploaded but I thought it would be better to make another video explaining it. I will put a disclaimer in the video description to help clarify this. I apologize for any confusion I created

Hey Marcus, Thank you for this Video. At our church all I record is the preaching, no music. I record to a USB drive then move the file to my Laptop. We use Audacity to edit and convert it to put it on CDs. It Would save a lot of time to go directly into Audacity from the X32. I have a X32 32 channel Board with Firmware 3.07. I'm new to this so the routing part would be new for me. I think the install guy set up the USB recording to come from house mix but like I said I'm new to this. Any help would be appreciated
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 2 года назад
I don't use audacity so I am not sure on the routing within that software program. Audacity is an entery level program for audio. Its ok but there are others out there that do more for the exact same price...Free! Most of these programs work in a similar way. There are a few steps you need to do to record directly into audacity. 1. download the drivers for your Behringer X-32 mixer and install them. The driver type is called ASIO. You are looking for X-usb 5.12 or greater. 2. Depending on the age of the mixer a firmware update may be needed. get 4.06 or better. ( my other videos walk you through how to update the firmware.) 3. Finnally in audacity you will need to select the Behringer mixer as your default audio interface. All recording software programs have an area for settings or setup. Look for that area in adacity and make sure the ASIO driver type is selected and select the behringer mixer as your default audio device. 4. Now when you open a track in audacity you should be able to see the mixer as a source or input. This will allow you to record directly to your computer and bypass the thumb drive. That's about it. I have a better solution though. Go to bandlab and create a new account on the computer you will use to record your service. Download Cakewalk and use it to record and master your CDs. It is a free program that won't cost you anything. I have many videos that will walk you through setup and use. I have detailed the routing for cakewalk in these videos. I have a 8 video series that will teach you how to record directly to your computer. You can use Cakewalk to make your CD's or export your audio for website or online use.

FYI - You may need to update your video. The instructions on updating firmware are different than Behringers instructions. They instruct you to keep the firmware file at the root directory of the drive, insert the drive when the mixer is OFF, hold down the VIEW button under USB and then turn the mixer on. It picks up the firmware file and installs it and then continues to boot up normally. If the file is corrupted or fails they advice turnign the mixer off and then removing the drive and turning it back on.

@marcuscurtismusic 2 года назад
I did another video a while back and installed the Behringer X-live card. In that video I updated the live card by holding down the view button located by the USB connection on the front of the mixer and then turning on the power button to the mixer. This was the only way you could install the firmware for the X-live card. I also updated the firmware on the mixer itself doing it the traditional way as seen in this video. As you have said, Behringer recommends that the firmware file be located on the root directory, but in addition to this they recommend that the thumb drive has a fat 32 partition. Those are the only requirements. When you install the latest firmware the conventional way, as shown in this video, the software now has a self checking system that checks for file integrity to make sure the firmware file is not corrupt. The website recommends the procedure you recommend if you are having issues installing the firmware with the mixer powered on. This is what they say. "It can be the case with some USB keys/sticks that the normal procedure of loading firmware (plugging in the key to the USB slot and powering up the X32) may not always work. If you are having this issue then we would suggest trying a different method, please read below for details." They then proceed to describe the method you posted. One of the biggest problems I have encountered with people doing firmware updates is that they are using a thumb drive that has other files and the the firmware is not in the root directory, or the thumb drive has an NTFS partition. There are some cases where the thumb drive itself won't work. Thank You for sharing the troubleshooting information you found on Behringer's Website. People who are having issues with firmware updates will find it useful. Installing the firmware the conventional way is not wrong and I have never had issues, but I think people should know both ways and I thank you for sharing the other way to update firmware. community.musictribe.com/pages/kba?articleId=06c3966a-6c30-ea11-a812-000d3a081b66&brand=Behringer

If I setup the behringer X32 to a Mac computer would it be the same steps or would it be a different version
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
It would be a little different process. You would not need to download the drivers. The mac should detect the X32 when you plug it in automatically. Make sure you download the mac version of the Behringer app. Make sure the USB drive you use for the firmware update has a FAT 32 partition. The final point is that Cakewalk works in Windows only. So you will need to choose another DAW like garage band or operate Cakewalk using something like Bootcamp, remote desktop, Crossover, or Wine. There are other free DAWs available on my website. The best solution would be to use the Behringer with something like Logic.

ok i did a little search and found it..you do NOT need the x-live drivers because your mixer is equipped with the x-usb audio interface 10:40 .If you had the x-live audio interface (the one that has two SD cards slots) then you need the x-live drivers.
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 3 года назад
You're right. You only need the drivers for the card you have. Thank you for your clarification and comments. I appreciate your input and advice. I make this clarification in the video description. I strayed from the script and I left that part out by accident. Some people have the X-USB card and some people have the X-Live card. It does not hurt the system to have both driver sets installed. It is the same USB port. The main difference is the X-live card comes with two SD slots to insert two 32 gig SD cards. both SD cards will give you the ability to record 32 separate tracks live at once and it will give you 4 hours of recording time. I just ordered and received the X live card. I am currently producing videos on installing and using the X-live card. I will highlight things like recording with the X-live then taking the individual tracks and transferring them to the DAW of your choice. I am using Cakewalk as my example. I should finish filming some of them this weekend.

But when I try to play music throu the Audiointerfaxe of the X32-Console I get digital dostorred sound. I've tried it in Windows 7 and Windows 10 on different PC's. @marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
Troubleshooting is always fun, right? What software are you using to record your music? I don't think your problem is related to computer hardware or the operating system. If you are getting distortion then start with the mixer itself. I don't know the details of your problem but I would plug the sound card of the computer into the mixer via the aux inputs and play any audio file from a CD or MP3. If you still get distortion then the problem lies between the mixer and the speakers. What does the audio sound like when headphones are plugged into the mixer? is it still distorted? If it only happens with audio you record then chances are you are recording the audio to hot. In this case, the preamp is too high when you are recording your audio signal. try a setting between minus 12 and minus 6 DB on the audiometer. But if you want to eliminate the computer as the problem altogether then get a thumb drive and insert it into the USB connection on top of the mixer. Then record a quick two-track song directly to the thumb drive and then playback the audio through the mixer. If the audio is distorted then you know the problem is the mixer or the speakers, or it could be that your preamp is too loud when you record. If the audio is clean then begin to look at your software. There are many variables and you will need to go through a process of elimination to find your solution.

@@marcuscurtismusic Thank you for the advieses. But I tried all the things you've mentioned above. I recorded with the x32 and when I play those files with my old and crapy M-Audio USB Interface it sounds good. The Recording and Playback with the 2-Chanel-Recorder of the Console also dounds good. @marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
@@beeth81 Actually, if you record something with one audio interface and it sounds good with another audio interface even though it is older then that rules out the computer and the operating system. If it were the computer then all audio interfaces would sound bad. If you recorded with the two-track USB port and everything sounds good then that rules out the speakers and the main mixing board. It seems that the problem is now most likely to be the USB card located on the back of the mixer. according to your response, you ruled everything else out. Now it could be that you have a faulty USB card and a call to tech support would fix that. If your board is under warranty they will replace it. The problem is either the USB card or the Behringer driver itself. Before you call tech support go to the Behringer site and download a firmware update. After you install the firmware update download the latest driver to go along with the new firmware as this video outlines. That may fix the issue. If you are still having issues then I would call tech support and they will send you a new card. If you don't have an x32 live card but you have the other USB card then uninstalling the X32 live drivers may resolve the issue. The good news is we now know it is the USB card on the back of the mixer that is the source of your problem.

Ok, I was puzzled by this so I went to the site and began to navigate. The good news is the drivers, app, manuals, and media photos are still available. The bad news is the site is a little harder to navigate making them harder to find. The search engine in the site itself will not work. To get the drivers and the app go to the Behringer website and go to downloads. The same download grid will come up. In the first column select Mixing console. In the second column select digital mixer. In the third column select all. Leave everything else alone. 19 or 20 pages of downloads will come up. On page 8 you will find the X32 producer app and drivers for the X32 producer. Page 9 will take you to the firmware for the X32 Producer. If you have a different x-32 the drivers will be somewhere in this area. This is the only way you will find everything you need to download and I know it's a major pain. Their new website design is not very good. Maybe they are still working things out. If you follow these instructions and you are still having problems locating what you need then I will upload everything you need to my google drive and I will provide you with links. It is always better to get drivers directly from the manufacture rather than a third party site like Google drive. SO try that approach first. Let me know if you are still having problems. Yes, you can record with any Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) including Adobe Audition. Any software app like Adobe Audition will require an audio interface which is the hardware used to make your recordings. This hardware allows you to plug in instruments like guitars and keyboards. In this case, the Behringer X-32 is your Audio Interface. I don't use Adobe Audition so I can't explain or even know how to do this in detail, but it can be done. Instead, I use Cakewalk for a number of reasons. First, It is now free, at one point this application sold for 550.00 and it has all the features of a high dollar DAW. Second, Cakewalk supports third-party plugins and VST effects. Third. the mixing and recording quality is very good.

In order to find a solution, we need to determine a few things. The first question I would have is what software are you using for streaming? The most common software used is OBS because it is free (Open Source) and it is really good software. If you are using this software for streaming as many churches are then you need a few things in order to make it work. First, you need to use a windows PC because this solution will not work on a mac. Second, you need to download a free plugin that will access the ASIO drivers. I have addressed this in another video which can be found here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--AZZkMb-gW0.html go to 37:34 in the video. The Cakewalk app is taking a very long time to install; what is the average install time?
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 3 года назад
It all depends on the computer you have. What are the system resources? How fast is your internet connection? How fast is your processor? how much ram do you have? Are there any programs running in the background? There are two many variables to determine any kind of standard time frame. It can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes depending on what features you are installing. All I can say is that it is worth the wait.

It shows those 2 channels in my Device Manger and when i open up Cakewalk and look at the "in's and outs" available. Try this, go to the settings on the mixer. To do this hit the settings button on the mixer, or you can use the app. Go to the card configuration tab. Select 32 in and 8 out. That could fix the issue. Here is a video that will walk you through ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--AZZkMb-gW0.html Go about 26 minutes and 40 seconds in. It should help you configure your mixer to work with Cakewalk. The device manager will only show two channels. That is normal. Basically, we want to make sure the drivers are installed and there are no problems with the hardware. As long as there are no yellow triangles over the X32 then everything is good in the device manager window. So don't worry about that. It is not relative to our issue. Sounds like your problem is either in card configuration or routing. The good news is these are simple fixes if you know where to look. If we don't resolve the issue I will make a troubleshooting video and upload it for you. Watch that video in this comment and learn how the basics of routing work in Cakewalk. Remember to go to 26 minutes in otherwise you will sit through a demo of the click track.

@@66fitton I never said you need to connect the mixer via Ethernet in order to record audio. You are reading way too much into this. You need to connect through the Ethernet in order to use the Behringer app. This allows you to control the mixer remotely from the computer. This in turn increases the speed of your workflow. Now that I can do this I don't need to run to the mixer every time I want to make a small adjustment because I can do that through the Behringer app. Since My DAW application and my Behringer app share the same screen it is much faster to make the adjustment in the app rather than go to the mixer. Faster workflows cuts down on the time spent on recording sessions. I am only showing people the way I set things up in my studio. I am in no way implying that it is the only way to do things. Do you need to do this in order to record music? No you don't. I made another video showing people how to control their Cakewalk DAW application from their Behringer mixer. Do people need to do this in order to record and mix audio? No they don't, but again, this speeds up the workflow and makes the recording sessions faster once you learn the process. This process is also done through the Ethernet connection. The only reasons I made these videos to begin with is because at the time I could not find any of this information on RU-vid. So much for the idea that anything you want to learn you can learn on RU-vid. I could not find this information in the owners manual either. This is the direct reason why this video has had over 150,000 views. I am sorry if this process offends you but if you know of a better way of controlling the mixer remotely during a recording session then please share with the group. We are only seeking knowledge about a mixer that has a crappy owners manual. I still consider myself a beginner with this mixer and I am showing things I discovered through trial and error. I am actually making a video right now that is an updated version of this one that will share even more information. Can you record music without controlling the mixer remotely? Yes you can, but that is not the point of this video and I think you entirely missed its intent and meaning.

Then I was reading through a manual and I discovered that those midi ports are really for external Behringer gear and they don't work with old keyboards. After running several tests and then looking through the manual I discovered that it would not work. A better solution was found here. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MConnect--art-mconnect-usb-to-midi-cable Now you don't need to use that one. there are other midi to usb cables available. That would be your best route. Save your Behringer mixer midi for the Mackie Control Surface. MCU will use the midi through the USB port which is a better option.

@marcuscurtismusic

Sometimes it does this. Do you have your Ethernet cable from the mixer connected to your computer? If your cable is connected from your mixer to your router, then double-check your computer connection to your router. If everything checks out, then you will need to type your IP address from the mixer directly into your app on the computer. To do this, call up the app. Then click on setup. Under the connection tab you will see a button that says manual IP. Click on that and a window opens. Now go to your mixer and hit the setup button. Hit the arrow buttons until you get to the network tab. Now copy the IP address from the mixer into the computer on the app. If this does not resolve your issue, then you need to check your connections. There is something wrong in the connections.

@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 2 года назад
There are a few several you can check. 1. Make sure the thumb drive you are using for the firmware update has a FAT-32 partition. to check this right click the thumb drive in windows explorer and go to properties. 2. Maybe the files you downnloaded are corrupted. Try redownloading the file again from Behringer's website. 3. Download the proper firmware for the device you are using. For example, don't download the X32 firmware update if you are using an X-32 compact. I have the X-32 producer so I am going to download the firmware file listed under X-32 producer. 4. There are basically two ways to update the firmware. One way is with the mixer is turned on as shown in this video, and the other way is with the mixer turned off. With the mixer turned off you simply insert the USB drive and then turn the mixer on. The X32 automatically scans the USB drive when powered on and instals the new firmware. Sometimes certian USB drives are to slow to read when the mixer is powered on and this prevents the integrity test from working right. So there are two solutions for this. Turn the mixer on while holding down the view button next to the USB port on the X-32. The second thing to do if your USB drive is to slow is to just power on the mixer and update it as shown in this video. I hope you are able to get things worked out.

Crackling which is often called popping sometimes happens when system resources are stretched to thin. If your running a computer that has many other programs running in the background or if your computer only has the minimum system requirements, like an i3 with 4 gigs of ram, crackling or popping may happen. The root cause is something called latency. Latency is the delay that happens between the sound card and the computer. There are settings on all sound cards that will adjust your latency setting and fix the problem. These settings are adjusted in the buffer settings of the driver. You need to open your ASIO driver panel and adjust your buffer size to fix the problem. 256 should be the correct setting. That will give you a delay (latency) setting of 5.8. That should fix your problem. If it does not then adjust your setting to 512 buffers. That should fix your problem. It will give you a delay (latency) setting of 11.0. this is measured in milliseconds. To access these settings in Cakewalk hit P on the keyboard for preferences. Under the driver settings click on ASIO panel. Adjust your buffer size. Hopefully that will fix your problem.

@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
This can be done using a series of steps Step 1 download the drivers for your mixer and install them on your computer. You can get them through the Behringer website. Step two download the Behringer app for PC. Once again you can get this at the Behringer website. Step three physically connect the mixer to the computer using a USB 2.0 cable and an ethernet cable. Step 4: turn on the mixer and open up the device manager in windows and verify that the mixer is connected, and start the Behringer app so you can remotely control the mixer. Step 5 Once all that is done simply start the cakewalk app. Click on edit at the top of your screen. It is located next to file. Now click on preferences. A window opens up and this is the location to set up all your hardware inside Cakewalk. On the left side of the window click on playback and record. On the right side of the window, by driver mode, select ASIO. Now select devices on the left side of the window. On the inputs and outputs section checkmark everything that says "X-USB ASIO driver". If these inputs and outputs are greyed out and you can't click on them make sure everything in this location is unchecked before you proceed. Once everything that has "X-USB ASIO driver" is selected click on apply and then close the window. You are all done. The mixer is now configured to work inside Cakewalk. If you are still having problems be more specific about where you are stuck and I will try to help you. I am planning on making a series of videos about using Cakewalk and it will explain the software in a lot more detail.

Hi Mark. I have my x32 all set. The Mackie control is all set, my drivers and firmware at updated. I have my mic going into channel one. Using Cubase 9.5 I have channel one set, but I'm not getting any input signal to the DAW but hear it fine from the mixer. My routing is local 1-8 9-16 17-24 and remap set to card 1&2. Under settings I have Mackie mcu enabled driving me nutts
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 4 года назад
I should probably do a video about this. Does channel 1 set mean that your input source is the same channel that the mic is plugged into on the mixer? Make sure the input source has the proper channel from the mixer selected on channel 1 within Cubase. You can record from any channel of the mixer on the first channel in Cubase. I don’t use Cubase so I don’t know how to guide you through it. But the issues of no input signal are generally from three different things. It is either the routing or the settings in your software, or it is a diver issue, and finally, it could be a routing issue from the mixer itself. Cubase is great software, but I use Cakewalk which is also great software. I also only use windows so if you're using a Mac I won’t be able to guide you because I am unfamiliar with Mac. So, let’s start troubleshooting using a windows machine, First, make sure the USB cable is plugged from the mixer into your computer and make sure either net cable is also plugged into your computer from the mixer. Turn your computer on then after it fully boots up, turn your mixer on. If you have speakers connected to your computer’s sound card windows will make a sound once it detects your mixer’s drivers. If not, you need to make the sound card in your computer the default sound card. This is so whenever system notifications play it goes through your sound card and not the mixer. Once that is done right click on the start button and select Device Manager. A list of all your hardware will come up in a new window. Click on the arrow/triangle that says Audio inputs and outputs and look for the Behringer Mixer. If you see a yellow triangle over the Behringer or you do not see the Behringer mixer then that means that you have a driver issue. Many times, rebooting the computer will fix this. I always look at this each time before I start the recording software. If rebooting does not work then uninstall the drivers then reinstall them should fix it. Remember that there are two sets of drivers to download and install, get both sets. If everything looks good and you see the mixer then it is not a hardware issue and we can move on. Start the Behringer app that controls the mixer and sync your computer and mixer to the app. This will only work if the either net cable is connected from the Behringer to your computer. The app uses the either net cable exclusively. Then start your DAW or in your case Cubase. Somewhere in the system settings for Cubase you will find the driver section for your audio interface. (don’t know where that is in Cubase) In this case, your audio interface would be your Behringer. Make sure that the driver type selected is ASIO. You should see your inputs within the driver selection area. Check the Behringer inputs you want to use and now Cubase will show these as source inputs on your Cubase audio channels. If no inputs are shown in your Cubase settings then you need to configure your USB card on the mixer under setup so the inputs show up. The first tab in setup will sync your mixer to the computer, the last tab allows you to configure the USB card. I select from the setup on the mixer 32 in and 8 out for my personal system, but you can select whatever you want in that area. But at least select 16 in for testing. This will allow you to record up to 16 tracks at once from any channel of the mixer. (you can change this later) By now you should see the Behringer inputs in the settings of your DAW application, if not, then this is the area we must address before we move on. If that all checks out and you still don’t get an input signal then the final step is to address it in the routing section of the Behringer mixer, and for this, you need to go to the USB card tab of the routing menu. Make sure the record option is selected and make the proper selection. Now it should work. I will start working on a troubleshooting video this weekend that will address your specific problem. The visual should help you fix the problem. I will get it up as soon as I am able.

Would have been nice to get a reminder to backup any settings you already have... I have 2 hours to set everything back up... I'm an idiot.

Will Audacity work, too?

Any DAW app should work on PC as long as it uses ASIO drivers. If you already have audacity installed and you have projects already recorded then this should work. However, You might consider upgrading to Cakewalk. The main reason is that Cakewalk is much better than audacity and it has many more features. The next great reason to upgrade is that Cakewalk is now free. Just go to Bandlab and create the account. Download the installer and install cakewalk. It cost you nothing. There are also other free products available to download from the installer too. This channel also contains videos that walk people who are new to cakewalk through using the basics of the software. There are several great RU-vid channels out there that provide instruction for Cakewalk. This channel specializes in using Cakewalk with the Behringer X32 mixer.

@@marcuscurtismusic Super thanks Marcus for your quick response. I hope I can count on you for other questions. I just bought the Behringer X32 Compact and it looks like plenty of fun. Super thanks again.

@@ralphgomez9006 I am glad I can help and if you get stuck I will be happy to help you. Most of your questions regarding Cakewalk should be answered in the Cakewalk series I did this year. The series on the X32 should also guide you through the basics. The X32 Compact is very similar to the X32 Producer and all the things I show should apply. If you get stuck just let me know.

You took a very long process creating the folder shortcut onto the Desktop. THE EASIEST WAY IS TO RIGHT CLICK ON THE PARTICULAR FOLDER AND SELECT "SEND TO DESKTOP AS SHORT"

Jesus love you, he died on the cross for you, accept him as your lord and savior he can change everything. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life" (Jn 3:16" But you must repent too. From that time Jesus went about preaching and saying, Let your hearts be turned from sin, for the kingdom of heaven is near. (Matthew 4:17):

*Spends over 1000$ for Audio interface/ mixer* *uses free software* ok cool

I have used Cakewalk for years. Back when it was called Sonar it cost about 550.00. It's great that it is now free. The object of the video is to show people that there is free software available if they want to try using the audio interface. Apparently many people did not know this. That way they won't be stuck with just a built-in two-channel stereo recorder. This works well with a laptop for a live setup. The plan was to use the mixer for live events. Bands seem to sometimes change and Covid has a way of changing everything. I still have my old audio interface. It's cool that the X32 has an audio interface. Once I retired from playing live I decided to use the X32 in my home studio.

@@marcuscurtismusic That's why I ended up here in the first place. I'm looking for an audio interface with 10+ inputs and at least 6 outputs for studio application and it's a tough choice. You eventually end up in a high price bracket where devices like the x32 producer offer all of that and even more. However the routing of the x32 confuses me even though I worked on digoco mixers in the past. Maybe you have some advice for a device under 1000$.

@@leonscholz5679 I don't know if there is one that I could personally endorse for your price range. But there are a few options for under 1,000.00. The first example would be www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ZED22FX--allen-and-heath-zed-22fx-mixer-with-usb-and-effects Also look at Tascam model 16 or model 24 track mixer. Both of those are under $1,000.00 Soundcraft also makes a 22 channel mixer with an audio interface for around $900.00. Although I have never used it but it gets great reviews. I have use Tascam gear before and I still have my Tascam audio interface. They make good products. I am not going to recommend something I have never used personally. The Behringer x32 producer is an excellent mixer and the 32 built-in effects are some of the best features. I also like the app that I use to control the mixer. It does cost a little over $1,200.00 Perhaps this one is closer to your price range. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Sig22MT--soundcraft-signature-22-mtk-mixer-and-audio-interface-with-effects
