South korea deals with this all the time. Illegal Chinese fishing boats enter korean waters, then when korean coast guards fight them away china complains to korea. Typical of them.
My condolences to fishermen families. One thing I didn't get was if there wasn't anything suspicious why didn't they let Taiwanese security personnel aboard.
The question is, why did Taiwan coast guard pursue the boat in the first place? The Kinmen Islands are only 5 km away from the Chinese mainland, which means that marine activities in waters between are hazy in terms of durisdiction. Many people don't even know where the Kinmen Islands are. Fishermen on both sides disregard boundaries given the short distance between China and Kinmen.
probably not fishermen. they entered Taiwan watere, got caught by Taiwan coast guard, refused inspection and tried escaping and got killed in the process.
That's actually what Chinese fishermen do lol. They go into other countries' territorial waters, even as far away as South America, and then try to run if they get caught.
@@syysyy3526 I posted link to a video, do your own research, look at Lei real talk and China insider by David Zhang. Amazing how many people are too lazy to look up information
@@andrewreidy18 first, i didn’t find the link which you informed. Second, I already watched videos of those bias channels, apparently they are 2 different people because there is a scar near the eye of that veteran. Third and what i’d like to say to you, I believe those inquiring people are way better than rumor spreaders like you, they would check and verify the information.
What is the problem? The fishermen entered restricted waters. What did they expect will happen? Also not the first time for china. Their fishermen have been crossing boundaries since they first learnt to fish lol
Look at the map. You walk out of the front door in your front yard and it is restricted water. How? Was there a treaty to define the boundary? No. Kimen is INSIDE China territorial water. It is only 2Km away and West of the median line. Learn your geography first.
@@davidwong5197 Its not your "front yard" if its restricted waters. You never had a 'front yard'. This is international law. When countries are close to one another they will have an exclusive economic zone that is close to one another. This is not unique to china because there are several examples of this all across the world. But only panda has a problem it. Why? Figure that out, geography man 😏
@@nueat6 What boundary. Who set the boundary? They are officially still at civil war and Kimen is INSIDE China. It is 3Km away and west of the " median line". Read the map before you comment. You know how to read a map don't you?
@@davidwong5197 here you go again with the map. historical maps and records prove they've been there for ages china does not territory rights. The nine dash line. China didn't agree to let an outside group decide on its South China Sea claims. In 2016, when a global court said China's historical claims weren't valid, China said "nope" and ignored it. They argued they've been there forever, so they don't have to listen to these international rules.
China didn't stop their fishermen from entering the prohibited water because they wanted to cause a scene in Taiwan's strait. Honestly, I can only blame those fishermen, they knew the danger yet still entered the prohibited zone
@@nonkuo7735 my point still stands, getting caught for doing something illegal is already a danger itself. There's no need to feel sorry for those fishermen, because you break the law you pay the price and they got what they wanted.
Folks, you need to check the map and see how close Kinman is to Mainland China...technically it's less than 2 miles from the coast of Fujian province. PS, Taiwan is not a Sovereign nation. China and Taiwan have engaged in civil war for 70+ years. 2:19
@@jayliu6076really?😂What i know is that Chinese 9 dash line violated UNCLOS which signed in 1982 and UNCLOS does not recognized chinese nine dash line claim. my country Indonesia also didn't accept Chinese 9 dash line claim because it included our natuna sea which part of indonesian territory.
@@antoniussamuelson3748 Really what? The original poster wants to paint China as some oppressor while conveniently ignoring the fact that Taiwan claims the same area along with all the islands within the region demarcated by the 9-dash line. This is to say that neither side has any moral high ground in this incident. As for UNCLOS, the country that's fanning all the flames in SCS isn't even a signatory. Think on that for a second.
Fun fact. Taiwan is actually republic of china. The first united china after the fall of the last emperor. In the civil war, republicans lost and flee to an island that is taiwan now. Since there was no peace treaty not power transfer agreement, they are still at war.
The war of chinese warlords? No territory was fully belong to a warlords. After the fall of the last chinese dynasty, mainland China was separated into multiple independent regions with their own warlords and ideologies. China tried to erase the war of chinese warlords from the history.
More like currently prc is a branch of the repuhlic of china, while taiwan is the same branch controlled by different party.. Before the civil war: both the kmt and ccp were in dual power until chiang kai shek deicided to massacre them.
Folks, Kinman is literally less than 2 miles from the coast of Fujian provience. Kinman is also part of the same Chinese economic zone. Fishermen put out the net in the morning and then collect at noon. But sometimes it drifts in the ocean, depending on which way the wind blows. Clearly, the Taiwanese coast guard ran into this fishing boat. I read a report published by the Taiwan media. Sounds like they intend to investgate and prosecute the perpetrator for involuntary manslaughter and police brutality? But can never tell what the DPP Taiwan government will actually do.
What do we do with Chinese boats in Argentina, they fish indiscriminately without respecting the laws of my country. Illegal fishing is a crime. He died for simply not respecting the law.
the taiwanese was lying here, the fishermen survivor told that they were crashed immediately by the boat in high speed, 2 were directly killed. all the official video footage that should be included by taiwanese boat has been deleted.
Agree, but need more evidence before the case can come to a conclusion. Now depends on the 2 survivors' statement on what happened during the incident.
Chinese must learn to respect other countries' EEZ. Now china knows how it feels like being "inflicted" with harm similar to what the chinese coast guard does to filipino fisherfolks in their own EEZ. I commend the COUNTRY of Taiwan for the audacity
Chinese fisherman is huge problem in world. SCMP must talk about this too. They go to prohibited water of other countries such as Argentina Korea Japan Africa and even attack coast guard. They catch all fish and original local fisherman in Africa became more poor. Why dont SCMP talk about this? Taiwan coastguard have obvious right to protect their water from illegal fishing
Again, they were just fishing! Is fishing illegal? Besides, they probably just wanted to get extra fish for the Chinese lunar new year. They were just trying to make a living. Give them a break. Furthermore, the Kinman residents access water supply from mainland China, not Taiwan. Who is being petty here!!! Catching a few fish is not a crime. Did they deserve to die? After all, Taiwan is technically still part of China. I studied world history.
Taiwanese products are duty free in China because China considers Taiwan as part of it´s territory, so this is very advandtageos for the taiwanese. I think the Taiwanese government should practice a little bit "Quid pro quo" and let Chinese fishermen fish in taiwanese waters.
I live in Taiwan. Everything is miserable here, but no one dares to complain. We Taiwan see China as a more advanced country. I wish them well, not hopeless like us. Seriously, if there is next life, I wish to be born in any other country, except Taiwan.
中國漁民不要越界蛇行就沒事了,自己做錯事還怪台灣海巡。中國海警也很喜歡在週邊海域挑釁台日菲海警隊。 Chinese fishermen should not cross the border and zigzag, and then there will be no problem. It is their own fault, and they still blame the Taiwanese Coast Guard. The Chinese Coast Guard also likes to provoke the Taiwanese, Japanese, and Philippine Coast Guards in the surrounding waters.
@@Mrasianpopmusic 中國漁民沒有合法駕照,船隻也是盜竊偷來的,並且蛇行危險駕駛導致自我翻覆。 Chinese fishermen, who did not have a legal license and were operating a stolen vessel, capsized their boat due to dangerous driving.
My condolences to the entire population of Taiwan, whose ancestors and parents/grandparents were beaten up by the CCP and forced to flee and swim through an ocean to be stranded on that little island that is 267 times smaller than what the CCP took from them. Taiwanese people every day have anxiety attacks, insomnia, and agony due to the fear that the CCP will take whatever Taiwan has left. CCP already took 99.973% of whatever Taiwan had; Taiwan is holding dearly onto that 0.267% piece of land.

@@ED-TwoZeroNine Brutality by the officers on duty which caused the death of common people. Lacking of standard protocols or not following them at all when confronting someone who is obviously from the country being viewed as enemy.
A true test for Lai and the democracy. China will most likely will blockade Kimen. It is INSIDE China territorial water. What are you going to do? Invade China? Lai can't even talk to China. He insisted on China recognizing Taiwan before he will talk.
