Being a Confident Christian Homemaker, Guilt-Free

Praise God for those who may have just stumbled into homemaking, but it's more than just being home for the sake of being home. It's a matter of obedience to God's Word. It's your calling to be a wife, mom and keeper of your home (Titus 2). Don't let the popular culture tell you, you are missing out on a "greater work." There is no greater work that that which begins in the home.

I remember always saying I would never be a domesticated little housewife at home raising babies. I would be the one to go back to work after a few months and continue advancing in my career. I held to that ideal until literally the day I gave birth, despite always feeling so unfulfilled and purposeless in my life. But as I sat with my daughter looking down at her that first night I had her, suddenly the Holy Spirit just filled me and I knew that THIS is what I was purposed to do. To be home, be a homemaker, look after our daughter and raise her to walk with the Lord, to help and care for my husband. I finished one year of mat leave, couldn't bring myself to go back to work even twice a week, and quit completely. 5 years now of being home with my family. We've had so much trial and tribulation, my husband sustaining an injury that put him on potentially permanent disability. In no world should I NOT be working and helping be the bread winner- and yet here we are 4 years after his accident, living on a disability income and money we can scrounge together wherever possible, and all this time the Lord has sustained us so much I am still able to homeschool and be a homemaker. I KOW this is where the Lord has willed me to be and to do - there's no other explanation when we pay 1900 a month for rent but my husband only receives 1800 for disability. It should never work, we should never be able to survive- but God 🙌 Just randomly came across your video in my feed and love this so much- you have a new subscriber for sure ❤️

I really wish this was taught in church. I struggled so much as a young stay at home mom ( it was not referred to as homemaker) feeling guilty. I got really tired of being asked what I did all day I just started joking that I watch tv all day and eat bon-bons! I didn’t realize at the time how important this job is. I never felt valued. So thank you for this video and others that bring to light the calling that homemaking actually is.

So encouraged to have come across this uplifting message. As a new pastors wife this is much needed. Knowing with confidence that the Lord has called my husband and I into local church ministry and able to come alongside him as his helpmate in this mission together for the Lords glory!

This is such a wonderful message I needed as I have been feeling the homemaker/mom burnout this past week. I am not Christian, but fully enjoy both of your channels and the message(s) you spread. It always blows my mind when I have encountered Moms that say they went back to work because they were “bored” at home. There is no way I could I ever be bored at home! I loved in a video you and Scott did a little while back where he was essentially saying that when a woman is home, she has the ultimate freedom and that when one chooses a career over family, they like to be controlled. Many blessings to you and yours!

Thank you Karissa! And I agree, being bored at home is such a lack of vision of all the things one could do with their time, it's shocking!

I am so thankful to come across your channel. I was a stay-at-home wife before we had children and struggled so much with what other people thought of me. Fast forward fifteen years, we have just moved cities as my husband has become an assistant pastor - I am the only woman (that I have met so far) in a church of 500+ that is homeschooling and staying home. It's been a struggle not to feel so different and weird, esp in a church that really is so Biblically strong and evangelical...but the culture is women go to work when their children are old enough to go to school. I feel like the Lord has brought me to your channel, and I am so thankful.

maybe you are to be a light on a hill. maybe God sent you there exactly to be different than everybody else. Don't hide your light under a bushel basket. Trust me, out of 500 people, you can not be the only one. (wow, I can't even imagine a church that big. I live in the country & we are lucky to have not even 100 in our tiny little churches LOL.) I hope that in the time since you commented that you have made some connections with someone. I have felt this way, too, but once I started homeschooling I randomly started connecting dots with all sorts of women similar to me. And now, the younger generation of women is finally catching on that the 'rat race' of corporate America is not as fulfilling as they thought. I am 43 & was always the ONLY sahm. Now I have quite a few new friends in their 20s who are just 'waking' up to the homemaking lifestyle. & guess what? I have traveled way farther down that path than them & can offer all sorts of wisdom/advice/assistance/skills & they can literally leapfrog their homemaking skills off of me. My kids are grown up & now suddenly I am hosting tea parties for little girls & making flashcards & jumping on trampolines again. Life is a funny thing. Maybe you are not there to find the moms who are already doing what you are doing, but rather to inspire the moms who wish they COULD be doing what you are doing. 💗

Thank you Kelli, I need to hear this! I would love if you made a video talking about some steps you and Scott have made to make you financially secure if something were to happen? I find myself feeling the need to set something up with my partner as a safety net (not so much for myself, but for those around me to feel safe about me being at home if that makes sense)

Hi, first thing is life insurance. Then we did the Dave Ramsey thing, getting out of debt and learning to live below our means. And then looking at what are things we can do to create additional wealth within our context and skills. This is different for everyone and depending on where you live you may have different opportunities. God bless you guys!

my lovely new neighbor keeps expressing the same thoughts, as a newly minted sahm. I told her she really needs to delve deep within herself & figure out where the roots of the 'guilt' & 'anxiety' are. As an outside observer of her life, I believe her anxiety comes from feeling unprepared to stay at home. she was not raised by a sahm, & really has no idea what her role is or how to do very basic homemaking tasks. She also does not know how to ask for help, properly - so she allows herself to get easily overwhelmed when there is help at the ready. Once she does gets overwhelmed (& does not ask for help) she then tends to wallow in self pity. I told her she needs to comb scripture to ponder the mission God places on women in this area. I also advised her that the more she learned to do on her OWN, the more self contro,l & control over her own life, she will gain which will lessen the anxiety. I had terrible anxiety - mostly cured on my own (& obviously with God's grace) by learning things, to feel more in charge. I also sense, in her case, that her guilt is coming from outside people telling her that what she is doing is 'wrong'. I advised her to cut those people out of her daily life & even if they are folks (like her parents) that she can not cut out, she needs to deaden their voices & not listen to them because these are people who have royally screwed up their own lives. Another thing I notice is when the husband & wife are not in agreement about the staying home issue, it causes guilt. If the wife is the one driving the issue, nagging to be able to stay home, or just makes the decision on her own to stay home I think it gets things out of God's sequence. The husband is the head of the household. If with discussion, the husband deems that the wife can not, or should not, stay home I think the wife's obligation is to honor the husband's wishes. When this gets out of order, discord is sown. The husband gets resentful & will often play a guilt trip, because he feels like he is being undermined. Guilt & anxiety get us nowhere. "Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength." If there is a legitimate 'reason' to feel guilty like you are overspending money on frivolous things that your husband is working hard to earn, stop FEELING guilty & do something about the bad behavior. If it is just generalized guilt/anxiety with no specific reason, you need to just Let Go, & Let God.

I live in Wilmore, KY. I have no land, nor a blade of grass, and I’m good at killing potted plants😂. What is the easiest thing I can try growing? I love veggies. I have a small space outside on a wooden porch..maybe 3 ft by 3 ft.

@softsophisticate 11 месяцев назад
I grow veg and herbs on a small plot of land. Some ideas: Think growing upwards on your 3x3 space with a wooden tower and using space on the walls of your building. Herbs - perfect for those on a small food budget as can make simple meals tasty amazing. Attach containers to your walls or window sills. Lettuces in the summer - I mainly eat salads in the summer, a nice lettuce with a simple dressing. I keep cans of food to add, such as tuna or other tinned fish, beans, and eggs. Cheap and easy. Add a slice of bread. I also grow rocket leaves which I add to my lettuce. Courgettes/Zuccini. I have 5 plants and have more than I know what to do with.

Hi, love your video. However I was wondering what are your thoughts about friendships and community found at the workplace?
@homewithkelli
@homewithkelli 10 месяцев назад
In my experience, those are "friendships" are based off circumstances/shared experiences ie working together. I prefer finding friendships that are based on values and encouraging each other towards our God-given purpose. Not that those work friendships can't turn into that- there are exceptions. But for me, it was easy for those friendships to be a place where we most related on work experiences, gossiping about other people, complaining about something that happened, etc.
