The defendant is a psychopath. He shows absolutely no remorse that he scammed the plaintiff. In fact, he even finds it funny and even feels entitled to keep her money.

There’s this thing called due diligence! If he claims he didn’t think she could afford the place, then it was his responsibility to do his due diligence before signing a lease and taking her money! What happened is he probably discussed with someone how much he was gonna rent it for and they told him he could make more, so he thought he was gonna be slick by pushing her into another location and renting that space to someone else for a higher amount. It was never about her being able to afford the space.

Yes, it's unbelievable. Landlords are supposed to be skilled with tenancy agreements. And with the rules. I would've ruled in her favour, but penalized the man for not handling the paperwork in good faith. You take a deposit for something w/o.providing it. So you'd have a penalty built into it as well. Landlords keep doing this garbage to tenants, and vise versa b/c the penalty is basically non-existent. You wouldn't find ppl doing this if I was on the bench. The fact is the fairness goes to the judge who is NOT on either side, but dies represent the corporation, not t"he country" and certainly not 'the people'.

" i'snt it ironic " he thought because she works for the school system she wouldn't have money during the summer.. and he didn't trust her to pay her rent or 1200.. And HE doesn't have 875 to pay her back her deposit🤔. And definitely believe he owed her for a 2 week stay in a hotel.. but in April not June

Not defending the guy but there's a simple reason for what he did. After renovating the three-bedroom apt, he knew he could probably get twice as much than the $1250/month she was going to pay. You'd be surprised how just a few upgrades can increase value of a house/apartment.

Landlords should be required to get a license in real estate and/or property management or be forced to hire a legit property management company to manage their properties.

The judge should have gave the Plaintiff the hotel fees too.

He's keeping the $800 because the show is the one that is spaying the plaintiff
