Three months ago I watched the TedX video where Alan Watkins shows the guys heart beats on a scope. That day i quit a 4 year addiction to a very hard and addictive drug, turned my self from facing the grave to the highest high of life. Ask the question and heres your answer. I totally agree that being aware of "what is really going on here" is probably the most important factor in our development. It's allowed me to overcome a lot of bad thought patterns and some other psychological issues as well as allow me to truly pursue my dreams and passions without fear and neglecting what everybody else thinks about that. Also it still allows me to research everything I'm eager to know and use that to optimize my own life and then share my experience across the web, which is awesome :D Thanks for all your work Alan, I hope to get me a copy of Coherence very soon :)

Thanks for the videos Dr. Watkins. It certainly seems that a grass roots change is taking place in some of us who want to be more responsible, accountable, and powerful starting with ourselves and our understanding of how we fit into the world. Your practical tips on self improvement/brilliance are likely being practices by a growing number because they work! I stumbled onto some of this knowledge many years ago but it was never packaged up the way you have done it. Others like Tony Robbins, Dale Carnegie and Spader have helped too.

Hi Dr. Alan, I came across your TED talk about BBED and it got me feelin "this man has really something to share". So here I am, "cross checking" your ideas and thoughts with mine. I personally went through the moment of realisation that I own the power to decide and it's me only, who holds the responsibility for its results and consequences. I found power of ownership as you call it and even though I was always following my "heart" in order to make decisions, I found myself in a stage where I got distracted and could not decide either way. Everyone has its own trigger for finding that threshold, but mine was when my friend decided to quit UNI after 3 years of studying, just half year before its finish. He invested enormous amount of time, energy and financial resources into studying something, which he consider 2.5 years later as the last thing he would ever do. At that time I could not understand why he doesn't want to finish it - saying to him: "it's just a half year to go" and I've seen it as a complete waste of time, money and energy. Yet, he quit. Then I've seen the relieve and change on him. He flourished with every day coming. Despite the complex situation he put himself into, he found the way and within a year, he got a degree in field of his real interest and happily cruises in his life. That got me thinking...."What makes some journey so hard and the other so easy to walk through?"...and I came to realisation that it is "decision" we make on our OWN. Decisions we do against our deepest honesty and best "judgement". Decisions built upon our feelings and inner "voice". Built up on thoughts and ideas that rise up, when we got into stage of positive flow. Since then, I have experienced life events that sound like a fairytale when I tell it someone..but...they are real to me:). My life changed towards the sun and there are no decisions I could have done any different. Yet, as our heartbeat varies, my control of ownership varies too...and that's why your videos dropped into my life "out of nowhere", giving me answers for something I already knew, but lost a focus on temporarily. So this is my greatest THANK YOU for sharing your ideas and thoughts with people from all over the world and me. I truly believe that sharing and collective thinking can unlock more of our "abilities" and move us into next level. This is certainly one of them. Happy sunny Sunday, Pavel

Simply wonderful!!!! Thank you so much for this video. It confirms what I have figured out over the past two years now. "I am the master of my own life. I am not my thoughts but the one behind the thoughts. I am in charge of how I feel and what to think about things. " How freeing that is!!!! It takes practice though! But in a short period of time positive change will be inevitable. All of this matches the teachings of Neville Goddard I have been studiing for the past two years. "Feeling is the secret"..... controlled feeling about a thing of your desire will bring the manifested version of that feeling. We can all be cocreators of this life. Ownership is great :-) And we all remember what good old Willi Shakespear said: "There`s nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so." :-)

In my life I have felt very insecure because I was diagnosed dyslexic at school. Lucky after a few wrong turns I put my energy into sport and healthy living and found a path with the church and reading which helped me. However I realize I have often been stuck in victim hood and want to move past it , events have shook me up and I ve not known how to respond I need to do this self work

Alan, I love much of what you say. Thank you for sharing. I wanted to say something, which maybe you would be able to refute effectively, but which seems important to me. You claim that by taking charge of our feelings we never have to feel miserable again. I feel that it is incredibly important to allow ourselves to fully admit our emotional reactions to things, and then to process through in our thinking in such a way that our emotions gradually come into a happier line. ie, I am with you in so far as I think we don't ever have to *stay* miserable. However, to live entirely in feelings that are positive is to deny our full humanity; I wouldn't even like me if I didn't grieve a loved one's death. Nor would I like me if I didn't 'mourn with those who mourn'. If you are giving us space to fully experience our griefs and our angers, but not to stay bound in them- then I am with you. It just sounds to me like what you are saying could be short-cutting that process.

If I may, as an expert in project manager, I feel what Dr.Watkins is saying. His observations and advice's are for those who are in leading position, to them help to regulate everyday performance by holding your thoughts, feelings, emotions in control. It doesn't mean that, you can't allow yourself to mourn and grieve on somebody.

I recently was reading the intro to a book, where children were taught the rules of the home. They were simply "Yes...and?" Basically, these children are taught that when something happens in their lives (Yes...) and... So what action will they take because of the event. I think this is brilliant because these children are being taught to move forward and actively move toward the event if it is good for them or move away if it is not positive. These children are being shown that it is within their power to take the action they want. No victims here!

except 5 years later its been shown many such emotional regulation issues can be traced to developmental trauma, hardwiring the brain differently at a critical stage of its growth, resulting in injury to how the Fight / Flight system functions.

It has a lot to do with the way you interpret good and bad news. Think of it as simply information, not good or bad. That way you can take ownership of emotions, feelings and behaviours, not reactionary. Of course there is a lot more to it than just that eh.

What about hormones levels, environmental behavioural conditioning and ego? Is the average human capable of transcending past these driving forces? Can we bring constant awareness to realise when we are operating in auto pilot and being driven by these forces rather than our own higher values?

It's never too late. Every new moment must be owned, and our response to it can be changed. Be happy. Non of us know how long our life will be. We only have now. Make now your best possible moment. Accept its not ideal, but life never was. Smile and look up. Muscle memory will lift you.

Never ever too late. I'm sixty and I've been suffering and in pain for years with various complaints...I recently changed the way I do things, like eating etc and I have been pain-free for a couple of weeks now...we can improve the quality of our lives...it is possible Tom.

Brilliant! I have read the Quran and noticed the capitalization of Fear, Ignorance, Guilt and Shame as a tools for the Islamic Business Model of: [1] Ensnaring new subscribers, [2] Stimulating offspring aimed at exponentially augmenting its subscription base, [3] Keeping subscribers from migrating to competitors such as the Torah, Buddhavacana, Bhagavad Gita, Harry Potter and so forth which collectively with the Quran have their value in literature alone and are best suited for children and adults with pre-developed brains.

I love everything about this video except I wish he left out is selling the audio program. I feel like even if people want to help other people, they won't do it for free. They will always try to capitalize, and that totally sucks. Anyway, great video.

Yes, people have to make a living also! They have bills to pay and this is how he chooses to do so. There is nothing wrong with that, nor is it any different than a Lawyer, a Doctor, or Engineer charging for his/her services. Not only that but if you're willing to invest in a car, entertainment, and food why not in personal development. Many things are given away for free in this world, and if you listen to his talks you can make a difference in the way you live and feel without having to pay ANYTHING. But a lot of times, if it's given away for free people won't appreciate it. I've seen it countless times, from inviting people to FREE personal development/or similar such programs in my area only to have them NOT show up or give excuses as to why they can't attend. If someone is sincere, they will never throw away an opportunity to grow, and the thing is, most people aren't.

This kind of mentality is why so many don't succeed. If you don't value your own work, nobody else will either. Besides, going around doing all of this for free isn't sustainable, and in no time he'd be helping nobody at all.

The likeness to this talk and a sermon from a preacher in my past is uncanny. This is like a modern talk of 'give you life over to the lord'. This is like the 'intelligent' self-help without using a 'god' as a crutch.

The reality is knowledge and skill can get people a decent position, including some professors I encountered. They behave rude, irritated, irrational, judgemental, gosh..........They should learn how to be coherence people.

How do you know whether Scientology is bullshit? Do you pay thousands of dollars to take the courses, memorise the mass of jargon, and do close logical analysis of its claims? Or do you ask what promises it makes, and compare them with actual scientologists? Now ask the same about NLP. Are its practitioners business geniuses, expert manipulators and playboy millionaires? Hint: No. Then...ask about the system Watkins is selling.

Everything this man says actually follows logic and should, IMO, be common sense. Why be outwards focused, blaming other people for our emotional problems when it's a FACT that our brain/organ neural-networks are what creates the problem of releasing the wrong proportion of hormones to perform optimally, physiologically and psychologically? People get stuck on the idea that the world is cruel, or that a person is so horrible for causing the pain that they feel inside themselves, and this all just amounts to both wasted energy, which could be better used for focusing on things that help one to experience an improved sense of well-being, and compounding the negatively felt emotions attached to those types of thoughts. Why not look at oneself instead, with a bit more open awareness of what's actually happening inside that's causing all these emotional reactions, to get an understanding of the internal processes that are actually creating all these feelings and the patterned loop of thoughts? Does this not make absolutely perfect sense, when considering that we know for a fact that it's our own neural-networks that are responsible for what types of hormones are released within our systems? Of course we need to do things to better control our physiology in order to give us a better chance to feel and think the way that we desire it to be. Of course we can't control other people's behaviors, or how they respond to us, no matter how much we may want to control them. This is all just a problem of having too big of an ego, or attachment to ego. We don't feel comfortable letting go of our ideas about ourselves and the world around us. And it's precisely this attachment that keeps the same thoughts and feelings cycling through us. We feel most comfortable eating the same foods, with meals patterned in roughly the same time schedule. We feel most comfortable doing the same activities every day; speaking with the same group(s) of people; about the same topics. Most relevantly, we feel most comfortable confirming our biases about the world and about our relationship with it. It doesn't feel comfortable to question our beliefs. It doesn't feel comfortable to even consider changing in the least way. We're all too invested in the ideas we have about ourselves to let go of them, for even a moment. Try it if you don't believe me. Try to drop all your beliefs for a moment and sit there like an ignorant child. Just try to be completely blank, not dim-witted, but empty of ideas about yourself. It can be done with fairly minimal practice, if approached from the right angle (e.g. breathing meditation), but it's difficult due to all the years of developing the neural-pathways - the creation of "mental grooves," habits. It seems to take more effort to let go of attachments than to just roll with them for the very simple reason that the pathways we created in our neural-networks offers the path of least resistance to our electrical systems. It feels most comfortable because it requires the least effort. Of course, when the least effort leads to the most suffering, it still makes sense to exert a little extra energy to change that condition. It takes effort at first to change - the amount of effort that's required to focus on one's own breath, as opposed to locked in the familiar relationship with one's own thoughts/ feelings/ emotions - but the pay-off is typically well worth that initial exertion. This whole issue of accountability of emotional state vs. blaming society for one's psychological conditions comes with insight from a clearer, more silent mind (clouded by less thoughts), and this is achieved by practicing "letting go" (meditation) enough to begin to create new neural-pathways, which become the new path of least resistance with continued practice - this has been corroborated by neuro-science case studies and there's been a growing body of evidence of such, dating back to the 70's and even well before. In other words, being less focused on the past and future (more focused on the present task) becomes a more and more effortless feeling, the more one meditates, and there's a "tipping-point" within the meditation practice in which being present to one's current task is the most effortless (most comfortable) condition. An optimal state of mind isn't fixated on ideas and confirming biases (focusing on the past or the future). The state of mind with the freest flow of available resources (most available energy) is the one with the least distractions, or, said another way, the one most focused on the task at hand. There are so many benefits to being fully "here," now, present to the current situation. For one, as just one example, if you're a hetero-sexual man who's still searching for "the one," you're going to be a lot more aware about what you're seeing in women; what they are really thinking; what their true motivations are; if they are interested in you, sexually, or otherwise; as well as, more capable of really giving all your energy to your conversations and interactions with her (being present to her). Moreover, as you will be less "in your head," you'll likely be more relaxed in general and less reactive to environmental stimuli that would otherwise cause you a great deal of anxiety, which, of course, makes a man far more attractive to a woman than your typical "playing it off cool, but, really, very anxious and fearful and wearing it like a neon-colored hat - man." You want to have all your intellectual and creative resources available to you? Then stop all your unwanted thoughts, fears, anxieties from taking up so much of your damn focus all the time. Be here, now, present to what is. Have your wits about you by being in your senses, as opposed to fighting some imaginary battle in your head. How do you get there? You stop the unnecessary and unwanted drama between the thoughts, memories, ideas in your head and the emotions that you feel, which are the causes of your currently unwanted reactions. How do you do that? You drop it all; you let go of it. How does one accomplish that? They stop paying so much attention to the whole process of thoughts fighting other thoughts and all the inner-workings that makes the emotions and then prolongs them through internally restraining and resisting it all. How to do this? One way is to focus on the breath - the great distraction from all distractions! It's so simple that it seems like it can't be it. It just can't be the solution, can it? Yet, it is. Yes, it is. Simple. Elegant. Beauty, objectified. Have a good one. May you see the world in all the color and shape that it is without adding things to the picture that detract from the beauty of it all.
