The fact that a dr would say it can’t be breast cancer because of her age is incredibly dangerous.

the age bias is still a real thing unfortunately. if you look cancer amongst older people is falling sharply where as cancer amongst younger populations are increasing 10 fold. scientist and oncologist have no idea why yet.

This same thing happened to a friend of mine who was 28. The exception is that she lived in a fairly rural area and all the doctors kept blowing her off. By the time they got the time and money to get to a big, decent hospital, she was stage 4. She fought it off, had a double mastectomy, chemo, etc. 2 years later it came back, in her spine. They tried to do the chemo etc again for 2 more years, but it just didn't work. She passed away leaving a 12 year old son and a husband, her parents and 3 brothers behind, along with a bazillion friends who loved her. If you've got something that you can feel, like the lump my friend had and this lady did, don't let the doctors blow you off! Male doctors are particularly bad about doing this. Keep going until you find someone who will listen to you!

How many young or younger people have to be diagnosed with cancer before the medical profession stop saying 'Oh you're too young for cancer'? Don't they know cancer does not discriminate against age, gender, ethnicity, etc? 🙄

Clinicians use probability to try and develop a diagnosis. Rule out the most probable causes then move to the next most probable diagnoses. The vast majority of cancers are age related which is why doctors tend to think of other problems with young people. I was surprised at the large proportion of older people in the chemo chairs when I was treated for cancer.

I understand your frustration with mis-diagnosing you because of your age. My son was finally diagnosed with Parkinson’s at a young age after several drs dismissed him as having a mental problem. They literally said it was all in his head and then one Dr said he had only a short time to live. We have to advocate for ourselves. I am saddened to see many younger aged women with breast cancer. I am in my 70’s with recent diagnosis of stage 4 MBC. I can only imagine what the future holds for me but I feel like I have had a good long life. ❤

Cancer has no barriers when it comes to age. I live in the UK and I had menopause at 40, I'm now 56 with fibromyalgia, my lower 4 discs in my spine are prolapsed and I have osteoarthritis and osteopinia along with spondylosis and ME/CFS. The pain in my body has been a little different for quite a few months and although I have ME/CFS I've been extremely exhausted and this isn't the normal effects I experience with my health issues. Due to brain fog and depression I forgot to go for my routine mammogram. I mentioned this to my eldest son but prior to this a few weeks before I noticed a bump between my clavicle and sternum and it's a little tender and looks like a bruise/red inflamed mark. Everyone kept saying I'd probably knocked it or was my osteoarthritis. On the 10th of this month I was laying in bed watching the TV and decided to do a self breast check and I found a largish lump in my right breast and on checking it it has the same markings as the bump I have. To be honest I panicked and spoke to my sons and they said I had to go to my GP the next day. My eldest son went with me and I've been referred to the breast clinic for a mammogram, ultrasound and a biopsy on Thursday morning of the 25th of July. My elder sister had breast cancer at 51 and luckily she's survived and is now 65. I didn't mention to my GP about the different pain I've been having in my lower back and body but after listening to you I will definitely mention it on Thursday. My eldest son is going with me and he will keep me calm and ask questions and retain the information given. I can't say I'm not petrified because I am, even at my age. My sons only have me and they are my world. I pray you make a full recovery and live a long and happy life with your darling daughter and husband along with your family. I found this video very helpful and very informative. God bless you ❤xxx

@@annas7892has nothing to do with incompetence on their part. It has to do with insurance companies never approving these necessary testing after ACA became part of the healthcare in the USA. There’s not enough drs to fill all the medical fields as drs are making 1/5th of what a salary once was. Less graduates are going into the field now the govt has a hand in how they handle their patients & the multitude of additional paperwork & politics that is now part of the healthcare system. If the ACA was suspended or done reconfigured it would go a long way in drs being able to provide the best care to their patients & allow them to not have to jump through the red tape to get a simple MRI for at risk patients.

I was diagnosed with stomach cancer when my son was 5 and I have gone through 6 years of hell. I refuse to have him grow up without his Mum. Though some days, I know that if I didn’t have him, I would have given up. It’s hard and the bad days make you just want it all to be over. The pain gone. Knowing he needs me is what gets me through the weak moments. Such up the pain and just push through.

It is selfish if you purposely have a child knowing that your life might be short. Notice that in your comment you wrote "gave *her husband* a beautiful gift" and "I'm glad *she* got to experience motherhood," with no thought of the lifetime of pain the child would go through not having a mother.

I am 29 now, but i got a kidney transplant at 25,i was warned that the donor had mono ( kissing disease 🤣 ) and i had not had it yet. There was a 25% chance i would get mono, and of that 25% there was a 1% chance it would mutate to lymphoma. Sure enough, about a month later i had SEVERE abdominal pain and went to emerge. After blood tests and an MRI i was told i had lymphoma. It didn't even phase me tbh, i took a few seconds before looking at the doctor calmly and saying " ok, so how do we make it gone? " was nearly admitted to the psych ward 🤣. 6 months later after chemo every other week, cancer free. Almost at the 5 year mark now, and doing just fine. Cancer never HAS to be the end, so long as you don't lose hope and listen to what your body tells you, nothing is impossible. ❤

I’m so tired of hearing about people getting cancer, especially in later stages. These medical professionals know how to manage this stuff but it’s all about money and greed. This hit home with me when my wife was recently diagnosed with metastatic TNBC after her doctor told her it was just a cyst and not to worry because she was premenopausal. 3 months later… she has the most aggressive breast cancer with the fewest treatment options.

By the way, how old is your wife?

@@CarlaCaires-xc6zoThank you for the reply. My wife is handling it very well. She’s a fighter through and through and she stays really upbeat. She is currently in a trial with trodelvy and keytruda. After her first cycle they scaled her treatment back to 75% and that has been a godsend for her. No vomiting or nausea in the past 5 cycles. My wife was diagnosed at 48 years old. We’ve done a couple genetics testing and all of her genes have come back with zero mutations, so we’re wondering how/why this has happened, as she has no family history of any type of cancer.

Oh it makes me so mad, I have been working in the health field for my entire working career and saying "you are too young for cancer" is unacceotable!! Even if you were the only person under 25 to be diagnosed with cancer ever, you have cancer and the doctors ignored to possibility. To me it is misdiagnosis and you should sue the pants off the doctor or doctors that ignored the possiblity. There is a youtube chanel about a beautiful young lady who passed away way to young because she was ignored for the same darn reason and like you spent the remainder of her life educating people on avocating for yhourself. Thankyou for unselfishly doing the same. The beautiful soul I am talking about is Jenny Apple @The Apples

Thank you so much for sharing your story and creating awareness . But I am so damn tired of doctors dismissing something just because a patient presents as atypical or they’re are “ too young” to have a medical condition. Doctors can be so dismissive of symptoms or disregard and reduce our anxiety down to “worrying about nothing” or being a hypochondriac. I’ve been waiting 9 months for a 4 month follow up . Again, thank you so much for sharing and you and your family will be in my prayers and I’m sure anyone else who watches this❤

We constantly here the message early detection saves lives, however getting your GP (uk) to listen is a real problem, my daughter who was a similar age found a lump in her breast and her GP who had a trainee with him the day of my daughters appointment, asked if it was okay for her to do examinations, apparently she was brilliant and thorough and wanted to refer for further investigation, the GP said “why it’s hardly likely to be cancer at her age” my daughter was referred and fortunately it wasn’t cancer, we both hope that young trainee went on to be a great doctor and doesn’t get the apathetic attitude of so many

I found out that the doctors actually go by the insurance companies... and it could easily have cost me my life. Hope you are doing well. I'm an 11 year endometrial cancer survivor. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll be in pain for the rest of my life from the side effects of the treatments, though. A timely hysterectomy after the birth of our 3rd and final child would have spared me from having cancer and being in pain for the rest of my life.

She’s 15 yrs now and cancer free❤ had 150 chemo treatments at children’s Seattle along with other poisons to kill this horrible cancer! She was given 12 hrs to live at one time, God is absolutely good😇 bless all those who fight this disgusting disease

You are in my prayers for you to be healed and that you will enjoy many, MANY YEARS of happiness with your husband and family. Mammogram technicians should only allow the doctors to tell you what is going on with your health. My mammogram technician had to call me and apologize for telling me the wrong thing. She may have been afraid that she was going to lose her job, but I didn’t tell the doctor what she had told me. I’m a 16 year breast cancer survivor, and STILL COUNTING. To God be the Glory. It sounds like you have some great doctors. You’re in my prayers for your complete recovery in the name of Jesus! Amen. 🙏🏽

Thank you for this video. Congratulations on your baby! I hope you have many, many years with her and your husband and family. Young women should always have breast ultrasound in addition to a mammogram if there’s any symptom of a breast cancer. I’m old and still have dense breasts and have to have an annual ultrasound and mammogram. I had stage I breast cancer 25 years ago.

It’s sad how prominent cancer is now days. my family including myself have been tested for the BRCA gene mutation and we all have the gene my mom had breast cancer at 41 my sister had it at 30 and im in my early 20’s and I’ve already scheduled my surgery because I’d really rather not wait till I have cancer. Cancer doesn’t discriminate and I hope everyone who has it has an easy recovery 💖

Yeah, I had a doctor tell me my herniated cerebellum was benign. Yes, as in not cancer. No, it was not "benign" entirely, it almost killed me by partially crushing my brainstem. Her advice led to unnecessary pain and nerve damage.

This young woman is amazingly courageous and impressive. She was also incredibly unfortunate to have Stage IV breast cancer by the age of 22. It's not clear to me that there was some diagnostic failure simply because she wasn't immediately referred for testing. She was nevertheless referred quite quickly, from what I can gather, and since her diagnosis seems to have has excellent care. There is such a thing is over-testing which has been shown to harm patients and healthcare systems. I don't think it's for people in the comments to assme that her GP was negligent in some way, or that this is indivative of wider failings in healthcare, and that doesn't seem to be an axe that she is grinding. Of course diagnostic pathways can always be improved, and I'm sure that work is ongoing. We live at a time when the ability to diagnose, treat and cure all sorts of cancers is greater than it has ever been, and brlieve this young woman is testament to those successes more than any supposed failures.

I have seen breast cancer in young women. You’re in the best care at a cancer treatment center. You can check with your insurance company to find out where they have breast cancer treatment centers in your state. They have the best outcomes and also usually don’t charge you anything for copayment. I live in NY and the breast cancer treatment center was Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where I received excellent breast cancer treatment and I highly recommend them.
