Thanks for your comments about interracial relationships. My Japanese wife and I have been married 15 years. She keeps her citizenship but lives with me (and our cat) here in the states. We visit her family in Yokohama every year. You two remind me of the reason I married her. We have had the best time enjoying each other’s country. I wish you all the wonderful things life has to offer.

D'aw: Reina's in love! So cute! The shared non-native language situation for Suzuka's relationship is always interesting. The brother of a friend of mine met his wife at Beijing University. She was Japanese and he was American. They each spoke to their kids in their native languages and to each other in Mandarin. It's like having their own secret but public language for their love. And getting to know two+ languages from birth is really good for the kids in the long run, establishing that neural plasticity and flexibility for learning multiple languages throughout their lives.

Interesting how the Japanese become happier when they date or have contact with a foreign culture, (especially the Western one), I think that this is the “cure” for their seriousness.
