#haboob #duststorm #severeweather The sky goes dark as a powerful dust storm overtakes me in Nebraska. These intense lines of dirt are known as haboobs and often stretch for miles along the leading edge of a front or severe thunderstorm.
I give you a thumbs up for your experience , but , I was a cross-country truck driver for decades , and driving through a dust storm is not recommended. In most areas prone to dust storms , it is suggested to pull off the traveled portion ( as far off pavement as possible, remain buckled with foot off brakes ( so others don't follow your lights ). Just my humble opinion and passed on safety suggestion. I am aware that storm chasing is it's own beast and respect it's participants and the valuable service chasers provide.
Around 50ish hurricane forced wind reports from these storms. Highest being a 107mph wind gust in Hutchinson, SD. These storms will most likely be classified as a derecho by tomorrow.
