Benfotamine which is B1 may help all kinds of aches pains and only one that breaks brain barrier for Erin’s to talk t9 each other. I may not be explaining it right but I had cervical disk issues and pain was exactly where you said described it. Started at brain stem and X-rays showed loss of fluid and spurs. This along with infared therapy has helped me function again . Every now and then tingling starts but never turns into pain . You tube videos on it

I always get the impression that you feel that we, the viewers, always want to watch ‘A Project’ but in my case, and I’m sure for lots of others, I’m just happy to see what life in Portugal is like, no matter what you do. Planting and picking vegetables, tending to chickens, gardening, playing with your kids, it’s all interesting and different because it’s not what we’re used to. So don’t worry if there IS no project, or that a project is halted for whatever reason, just be you, do what you do, and we’ll be happy to tag along. And I’m GLAD you put the camera down whilst on holiday and focussed on enjoying yourselves, that’s what holidays are FOR. And as to John’s comment on how Crusoe is great because he’s always interested in what you do, gets excited at the thought of lovely fruit etc., all I will say is, he has two very good teachers 😉 See you on Wednesday! 😁

Exactly what I have thought at odd times as well. Also makes me look bad as I'm getting very slack at doing jobs these days and getting up at 11 am doesn't help with productivity. Oh well I spent enough time getting up early for work so now I shall enjoy my time however I feel like spending it.

My heart goes out to you, John, because it’s so frustrating when our bodies aren’t cooperating with our aspirations. You are so smart to listen to your body and take a pause. I’m certain the good people watching the channel will patiently wait until it’s safe for you to resume working on the kitchen. I had the same with the shoulder and arm. Despite physiotherapy, I still have problems in my hands. Hot plasters from the pharmacy and yoga helped. I would also ask the neighbors for home remedies. My grandma on her farm always had a solution. Get well soon

Do worry about that shoulder! Stop using it and listen to your body!!!!! Get to an orthopedic doctor and request some physical therapy before even thinking about finishing the kitchen! Take care of you! We’ll be here when you’re healthy!!

Lovely to see my Portuguese family again. I'm so sorry about John's shoulder. The tingling sensation sounds like a nerve being affected as well. If you put heat compresses remember to alternate with cold...about 10-15 minutes each. Heat brings the blood to the area for healing but cold should keep down inflammation. @@TheNewbys Yes! Along with heat/cold therapy, my husband has found GREAT results with COLLAGEN!! He uses a product called Multi Collagen Protein from Ancient Nutrition & has had near-miraculous results for an old shoulder and arm injury from working too hard on a farm & kitchen years ago. It says it is clinically proven to promote healthy skin, hair, joints & digestion. It has a mild flavor almost like powdered milk & you can mix it in with smoothies or stir it into chocolate milk ...we use pure Stevia to sweeten. You can also grow Stevia leaf/plants & make your own sweetener to make sure it's pure. My chiropractor told me to stop fighting my shoulder pain... I was struggling with having it and felt less than myself.. for me, rest and acceptance were key in my healing.. John, I hope you feel better soon... it will all eventually get done and it will be done brilliantly by you!!!

Oh no….John’s poor shoulder. I hope it heals quickly. In my area of North Carolina, Sawyer is a fairly common surname and some boys are named Sawyer as their given name. I have a feeling many many more boys will be named Crusoe thanks to your channel. He’s awesome!

When I injured my rotator cuff lifting my mother’s travel wheelchair over and over into the car boot, I found relief with acupuncture, massage, ice and arnica cream. It took more than a couple of days, however. Wishing you speedy healing!

John Rest, Please, Think big Be Brave Explore your shoulder. My husband was in terrible pain for years, Last spring after a triple bypass in April when he recovered, they did a reverse shoulder replacement. Barry says it's a game changer once he finished healing, He can now move his arm and shoulder without pain a 1st in years. Tara and John every week it's a pleasure to know that I can enjoy my Newby's time. I hope that your families share with you how wonderful you both are together, separately and with the boys. Good morning family! I am so sorry John's shoulder is messed up. He really needs to take it easy. I tored my rotator cuff and ended up needing surgery. I completely understand the frustration of not being able to proceed but with much care it will get heal and John will be back building his magnificent projects around the house. One of the things I love about this channel is how much I learn. Here in the U.S we call them eggplants. It is so intersting to know how it is called something else around the world; and that is not the only veggie that has different names around the world. The boys look adorable as always! Wearing a sling for that arm could be a great way to rest it for a few days, while getting an appointment with the doctor.

@@mmegrahamI completely agree with this as my hubby was given an arm sling after he very badly disconnected his shoulder whilst tripping over and putting out his dominant arm to brace his fall. Unfortunately this caused the ball socket on his shoulder to end up down by his rib cage with this arm up in the air next to his ear. This tore all of the ligaments off the joint and some of the nerves too. They tried to repair this during surgery but were unable to reattach the ligaments etc and he has permanent nerve damage. Now he needs a complete shoulder replacement on that arm (a new titanium ball and socket joint in his dominant arm) as he has hardly any movement in it and is unable to lift his arm upwards to comb his hair etc. He then tore his rota cuff on the other shoulder from overusing it whilst compensating for the other damaged shoulder. This also needs to be repaired during surgery but the aftermath from covid is still delaying both operations. On bad days he says the sling is the only thing that gives him some relief from the pain and he has been told that after the surgery he will need to wear an arm sling 24/7 for at least 6 weeks. Shoulder injuries can be very serious and affect you in ways that you couldn’t imagine. Hubby was medically retired from his job as a hospital porter because he was unable to do the lifting that is required in his job. He has been told that even after the surgeries he won’t be able to go back to work because of the nerve damage and the muscles have now shrunk and pretty much disappeared after the accident so they can’t rewatch these during the complete shoulder replacement. You really need to be careful with any injuries until they heal or you may also have life changing complications like my hubby. X

John, rest up! the pins and needles may indicate a trapped nerve in your shoulder so if that persists please seek out a doctor. Frustrating for you I am sure, however, there are all aspect of your life in Portugal that keep us riveted. Yes, John should rest his shoulder for a few days, perhaps use the time for research/planning? I also wondered if you could use some of the bamboo on the roof? I love seeing Crusoe gambolling about in the veggie garden and can't wait to see Sawyer running after him! Bamboo is supposedly good at insulating because of the hollow tube construction so it could be used as a layer between the ceiling and roof if there was a way to lay it out and attach, so it’s a good suggestion Claire, I love watching all the stuff they do around the homestead too, the boys are growing up so fast and it’s a joy to watch them learn so many things from both John and Tara.

So you see how corn takes up a lot of space for little fruit. There is a technique that that the native Americans used called the Three Sisters. When you plant the corn, at the base of each corn you plant beans to climb up the cornstalks and in between the plants, you plant your squash. This way you maximize your space and this way you don't have to build trellises . It's a tried and true method that's been used for centuries. Give it a go next year. I like to trellis the squash also so it doesn't take up so much land space. You can do it with small watermelons too. If they get to heavy, I seen people use old ladies stockings to wrap,around the fruit, then tie the fruit to the wire cage or fence around the plants. You could use any kind of mesh cloth too. Oh John, treat your shoulder kindly and gently, a damaged shoulder can take "for ever and a day" to heal if you aren't careful so REST IT!. Pins and needles indicates you are pinching a nerve somewhere, the channel the nerve runs through, gets swollen because of inflammation and thats what pinches the nerve - so you will be waiting for the inflammation to go down for the pinching to stop. Crusoe is like a hoover with melon - he's so cute . What a lovely age!

Years ago, I hurt the rotator cuff in my left shoulder. I made a tincture of vodka and rosemary flowers. I used a quart jar and stuffed it with the rosemary flowers, then I poured vodka over the flowers until the were covered. I then put a lid on the jar and screwed it on tightly. I placed it on my window sill for three days in the sun. I then pour the liquid through a sieve into another container. I liberally applied it to my injured shoulder, using cotton balls. I repeated this at least five times throughout that day, anytime it started to ache. After the fifth application it stopped hurting, and has never bothered me since... that was about thirty years ago. I know it took away the inflammation from the injury which allowed it to heal! 😊❤❤❤❤

You can preserve the tomatoes in olive oil adding some garlic, rosemary, pepper and salt. You can also preserve eggplants by first removing the skin, then slice them horizontally and adding salt and olive oil, then grill them in the oven for 35 minutes on 350, let them cool down and freeze. It’s wonderful and very easy to use when you need them. I make eggplant pizza on a slice of sourdough bread adding cheese and tomatoes. Love

So sorry that John is going through issues with his shoulder. My advice, and I know you guys like to do things organically and naturally, but I would encourage John to consider a Cortizone shot, or shots in his shoulder. It is a miracle drug. It accelerates the healing significantly. All the best.

Shoulder injuries can be difficult to heal and recovery can take a long time. Be very careful because you could reach a point of no return if you keep pushing. Rest, heal and consider physical therapy or chiropractic care to help the healing process. ❤
