Try telling that to young children. They are often even more judgemental than adults! Society doesn’t determine beauty, genetics and the brain determines what is beautiful.
“One day, you will be pretty” “I feel as though children are valued for the things they will be, they will be great consumers ... I feel a child can’t grow until they are loved for exactly who they are at that moment” Mr Rodgers (I may have gotten the exact wording wrong)
People can grow in literally anyway possoble however if you try to make them grow to be something their not its like trying to put an airplane part into a car in hopes for a flying car it'll grow larger but more fragile and pointless
One piece that I find interesting is that the roads are built on top of the graves, meaning that Autodale is literally built on the premise of getting rid of “uglys”
I can't thank you guys enough for the response to this short. I'm so glad everyone is liking it. I really love doing my own original animations. If this short continues to do well I'll happily do a sequel. There's a whole lot more to this world to show and I have a bunch of ideas. ^_^
Dead Sound I Love this and how you give out a message, We're just these tools being controlled to think that we're either pretty, or ugly.. And you can't step out of line, or you'll be a freak to society, we wear our faces like masks always trying to look pretty, but always thinking we're not good enough or pretty enough to the point where we create this feeling that you can't be accepted at all, and the ones who are accepted are only loved because of how they look, we've evolved every gender and anything into a stereotype and Always afraid to stop using it, we can't set our hatred towards ourselves free! Thank you for reading this long comment
I remember I used to rewatch the first few episodes, because it wasn't finished, but then u lost this and couldn't remember the name of the series nor the chanel, finally I'll be able to finish this and rewatch from time to time
One person in the pit had a mask that said "Old". This means that everyone will become ugly sooner or later...I should really stop analyzing videos on youtube and just enjoy the video instead.
@@deletedaccount7057 honestly I'd say it's a pretty big difference in this short. The fact that he is depressing not depressed is showing that he needs to die because he is causing others "harm". They don't care how he feels inside, only how he makes others feel.
This creates a better dystopia setting in 3 minutes than some movies do in 1+ hours. Incredibly haunting, beautifully animated. Really makes you think about our society today, and how social pressures and standards affect people.
Society today is NOWHERE NEAR as this society. When was the last time someone was killed simply because they were gay, except for that Florida Shooting? (Which the killer did because he was a radical islamist) The only people who are separated are the elderly (depending on their condition) and the mentally disabled, which is a good thing! Not a bad thing. Nobody is being exterminated institutionally. People need to chill...
Grimdark Rising I was not drawing a comparison, I was simply saying that this film makes you think about how a society's general idea of what is "pretty" or ideal , like in the short film, can affect both members of said society. Have a nice day.
@@grimdarkrising3767 people get harassed and killed almost everyday because their queer especially people who live in the Middle East Africa and the Caribbean(coming from someone who lives here myself) don’t down play a minorities experience, of course modern day society isn’t quite literally doing what’s in the film but there’s many targeted hate and hate crimes towards people who are described as the. ”uglies” and it doesn’t look like it’s stopping any time soon
I wanted to write a long comment about how deep and controversial the world of the cartoon is. How it manages to be terrifying and soothing at the same time. But apparently RU-vid algorithms do not like it when the words "you" and "die" are in one sentence, (regardless of the context), and my comment was deleted. Oh irony
@@risotto4life577 well in this dystopia it is but irl, eh. Usually people dont even care if they are ugly or not. All that matters is that they are alive. Remember, your utopia can be someone else's dystopia...
Rencrab um, no. Being ugly or pretty does not matter in this dystopia. 'uglies' does not mean ugly. Its the word they use for anyone that does not fit into their idea of perfection. People who are disfigured, or crippled may be killed, but not people who are deemed 'unattractive'. Thats the whole idea, the creator even touched on this in his creation prpcess video.
@@njay4399 Looking at net-tax-payer statistics, the stereotype could as well be true today. Doubeling of the workforce just lowered price of labor so that single income homes are rare today.
That's not what they mean by pretty. they don't mean attractiveness, they mean usefulness. This is a world ruled by machines, machines want efficiency. If one cannot be efficient, they are ugly. He explains it in one of his explanation videos he released.
@@somo4227 every generation will grow up to be like boomers because we'll begin to see the narcissism of the youth and we'll start complaining about it forgetting our youth.
@@BlackCover95 oh rly? I always thought it comes from Greek roots; eu- meaning good, (other examples include euphony, good sound) topos meaning place. thnx for the correction
Paint Sans and papyrus Yeah children are innocent. They're still getting --brainwashed-- educated. They'll get masks later. If they grow up right, then they'll be pretty.
Anna Elizabeth It's society, basically. Everyone is labelled and stereotyped, but there seems to be a revolving around a "perfect person". In this Dystopia those who are "exceptional" are those who meet the standards of the "perfect person". Those who are "pretty" are the average, everyday person (or something along the lines of "the mother is the caretaker of house and children and the father is the support and income of the family, whilst the children are being 'taught' their place"). However, there are those who are "ugly": people who fit the "horrible stereotypes", those who look nothing like the "perfect or average person", and also those who can't seem to fit in the "average person" criteria/category. The bots killing the "ugly" is like the representation of how the world puts down those they think are "wrong", "stupid", "crazy", "overweight/underweight", or "unpopular". The "pretty" go on with day-to-day lives, disregarding the problems and situations amongst them and drawing inwards, like a majority of our world. The "exceptional" are given the best because they have proven their worth, or are close to or look like the "perfect person". To me, this is a film that nearly clearly displays what are society is becoming on a mental and emotional scale (or mythical). It represents what our minds conjure up, although a bit different from this video. Pretty sure I may be missing a few points, but this video, with what I'm seeing and understanding, hits really close "to home" for what our society is.
Berry Chan, maybe took damage later in the years, or maybe it was a hint/nod to the fact that people’s opinions of each change, similar to their physical and/or mental change.
“Pretty” is used with the same meaning their preference perfect in this. “Ugly” would be anything that isn’t a good standard to them, or not good enough.
Yeah and u know Namjoon said this quote after being a pray of this judgemental society himself and Even after that now he become a big successful celebrity.
Yeah, but judging is natural, however overjudging is not. Bringing others down on purpose is not too. What we perceive as beauty mostly depends on the average faces that we get used to see around us.
@@teeheebread5998 In more details let me explain it this way: there are 2 factors that determine what you assume as beautiful face. The 1st one is social reality that you take part in and the second one is the average opinions of others, imagine 3 people arguing for a colour: let's say it is red. 1 of them states that it is red, but the other 2 state that it is dark orange, and for years everyone tells this 1 person that this colour is dark orange, not red and now when someone asks this person what is this colour they state "it is dark orange". Years pass by and this person who was convinced by the social realities that they take part in on daily basis that this is how this colour is named. Then this same person meets someone young who says that this colour is red and they explain to them that infact it is "dark orange", and the cycles continues. So this is how social reality shapes other people opinions. If someone is taking part in social media platforms, where most people state what the criteria for beauty should be and that someone spends most of their time on such platforms, than slowly but surely "the average opinions of this social reality" becomes reality for this person as well.
This series reminded me of a book series called "uglies" by Scott Westerfeld. Set in a dystopian era, it defines a world where humans are surgery-ied/transformed into "pretties" (similar to here), until the protogonist decides not to get the surgery and discovers the dark truth about the society and rebel against it. It was a cool series 😊✌️
Serious stuff aside, can you imagine the absolute STENCH of that city. Dozens of hundred feet deep pits just filled to the top with dead bodies. Everyone there must be nose blind 😫
Basically those who work do their part and live the way society wants them to live are “pretty” and those who are unable to live in such a way are “ugly” and are disposed of. This is all run by one central mind who wants the world to be how they wish it to be.
Yeah, but it seems that the ones who live that way are all “pretty” so i don’t think that the most important thing is their lifestyle i think it’s more about their appearences
The term pretty is a metaphor for lifestyle. That’s why they are wearing masks. Too imply it isn’t actually about their face rather how they live. And it isn’t the SJW thing because they killed a gay guy. It’s just a think about rejecting people who aren’t like you.
Pineapple on pizza is yummy, I thought that it will be disgusting when I first tried it coz its a FLIPPIN FRUIT ON DAMN PIZZA, but it was actually really good.
ur animation n storytelling skills r so good 😭😭 watching the videos always has an impact on me, and seeing all those ppl lying dead gave me chills, but seeing those w the labels that apply to me personally especially gave me chills fr. makes me thankful its not like that irl
No thats not true you guys and toad, you dont have to have friends to be amazing or beautiful because you are your self and thts probably what alot of people would love about you .you just don't know it yet!
wow... I found this on my home screen... I thought it'd be interesting to watch... boy, did I ever jump right in the deep end with this... I absolutely love this and hate this at the same time
I'm going to terrify you more. If you look at now today. Ot isnt 100% different. But instead of killing "uglies" (i.e. people not considered normal) they are shamed (pr is sone cases actually killed
@Light Morningstar what my tired brain. Is trying to say that of you look at to today's society in a certain way it isnt that far off. The system kinda rewards those who follow the norm
@@medical-cyanide1526 yeah actually yes labelling and stereotyping exists and it's soo common that even when we say it's wrong we still are failing to recognize it in our day to day life
Horrifying! I actually made a similar series of dystopian animations myself, where the robots are actually very inclusive and caring for humanity and humans make for the dystopia... Feel free to check out out on my RU-vid channel! :)
in case you missed what the "uglies" were: *((disclaimer: these aspects don't at all make you ugly! this is a dystopian film with dystopian standards. this film implies the harsh rules and expectations for the people in autodale.))* -"disfigured" -"retard" -"deaf" -"fat" -"depressing" -"crippled" -"old" -"divorced" -"sterile" -"unemployed" -"blind" -"gay"
I mean like the world outside of autodale is uninhabitable for humans so kind off need to make sure there putting in there resources where it’s needed.
@@ratt6436 well I guess that could be possible, but the guys who threw them are kinda robots so why would they get thrown?! Unless they get useless in that case they could be thrown
Its just like our society. We disresspect other people that is not like us. That is a very big sin. We hate others because of their skin colour or body.
