Hi ashish, First of all, i'd like to appreciate you for the vivid explanation. However, I confused with one part. let me explain my question with sample sentences. 1. "Being a teacher, puts lots of responsibilities on your shoulder." 2. "Salman, being an army officer, does a lot of charity work". 3. "Being poor, jenny works in a medical store". How come "Being a teacher" is a Gerund in the first sentence while "being an army offer" and "being poor" in the latter sentences are belong to participle clause". Would pls explain.
Hello, Vijaya! Ask "what puts a lot of responsibility on your shoulder" to the verb! Being a teacher, which is a gerund phrase, answers it. A gerund phrase works as a noun. Both gerund and participle phrases look like the same. The function they perform makes the difference. Please watch the lessons on these phrases individually. That'll help.
