Bel-Del: A Day Out With Thomas 2014 

This Thomas was originally built in 1917 by H.K.Porter for the Mesta Machine Works as a facility switcher. Later it was sold to the Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal and renumbered to 15. Number 15 and the other steam switchers were retired in 1965 after the arrival of diesels and was sold to the South Appalachia Railway. Number 15 was sold again to the Toledo Lake Erie & Western in 1975, then sold again to the Strasburg Railroad in 1998. The Strasburg Railroad intended to restore number 15 to operational condition and be used as a road engine. However it was determined her fuel capacity wasn’t large enough to make a round trip with a full train. But by a stroke of genius, it was decided to restore the locomotive and give it a cosmetic makeover. The saddle tank was removed and replaced with side tanks, the pilot was modified with a cowcatcher and buffers, the sand domes and headlight were removed, the smoke stack was replaced by a custom design, painted blue with red stripes, renumbered to 1, and a face was attached to the smokebox. All these changes lead to the Day out with Thomas event in 1999. Ever since then the locomotive has been brought out specifically for the occasion.

Very nice video! Impressive! I wish I could catch the real Thomas like you did instead of the cheap wagons that I keep getting tricked into seeing. Lol

the animatronic mouth is a nice touch, the wheel rods kinda ruin the magic for me a bit, but i guess its easy to overlook when your a little tyke, Id've been thrilled to go for a ride on thomas's train when i was little :)

Although the E2 tank engine thomas was based off of are all scrapped, The one this railway has is stunning! id prefer if THIS was thomas' basis if the E2 never existed!

shame that the strasburg thomas doesn't visit that place anymore. I've also heard that 142 is nearly completion and once the pandemic is over (probably sometime in 2021) she'll be back and running.
