Belarus police crackdown on protests after Lukashenko expected to win election in landslide

Warning: This video contains violent content. Discretion advised. Belarus police fired stun grenades and detained protesters in a crackdown on protests that erupted after President Alexander Lukashenko appeared set to claim landslide election win on Sunday.
Thousands of people took to the streets of Minsk, while police blocked off streets, and at least 10 people were detained.
Video captured a line of Belarus security force personnel holding riot shields in a Minsk square, and at one point, a man throws a projectile at the forces.
The state TV exit poll showed Lukashenko won nearly 80 per cent of the vote.

What I find most fascinating is the illusion of the people living in western "democracies" who think that the arrests made by the French government (of numerous "yellow jackets") and arrests made by the US government (of numerous Capitol Hill rioters) and of numerous members of the black population (many killed by the police like animals on the streets) is somehow different than what happens in a country like Belarus or anywhere else. By the same analogy, Belarus and Russia should impose sanctions on France, USA, Israel and God knows what other countries for how they treat their citizens.

Perhaps it's time to let old man go. Lukasenko seemed like OK leader in early beginning but the nation has outgrown him. People see how their counterparts in EU live. The former soviet states are much more developed. People want the same growth. It is safe to say that election results have been fabricated. If people go against him perhaps handover of power can be done. This is the last opportunity for Belarusian people to get democracy.

The EU is good (somewhat) in terms of economics, but it's a beuractic regime ruled by undemocratically elected beuracrats with too much power and piss poor immigration policy. Britain was right to leave

@@richardides2035 Ukraine did not join EU and was too reliant on Russian market and resources. Basically it was too dependant on Russian gas and oil in exchange for lowered sovereignty. Same can go for Moldova, Belarus. Ukraine however is on a right track, but it will take about 10 years for it to prequalify for integration to greater Europe. Baltic countries, and Poland could be a good example of development index increase and growth in GDP per capita. All members of EU and Nato. So perhaps Belarusian people, after visiting Poland and Baltics so much want to live like us. Cannot blame them. See GDP per Capita economies of EU. You will see a great improvement. Baltic States started integrating into Europe, while Belarus was stuck with a pro Russian Dictator. Perhaps people want democracy. Be like Poland for example.

@Anglo-Saxon In Asia your words are how exactly based on facts? Belarus has a lower GDP than Baltic States and Poland per capita. Belarusians Tavel often to Lithuania, I know many of them. They want to live like us, have higher salaries and ability to work virtually anywhere in Europe. Lukasenko is a dictator. Only bargain is cheap Russian oil and Gas for Belarus. But it's over reliance on Russia which is a crippled economy based on crude oil exports. Belarus would and should do much better.

Dozens of protesters who have suffered from the atrocities of the Belarusian police force have already died in hospitals: On August 9, 6 people died, on August 10, 7 people died, on August 11, 21 people died. (Information received from Sergey Karavai, head of the emergency medical aid department, "Center for Emergency Assistance for Disasters and Traffic Accidents"). I suggest everyone writes to their local UN representative asking them to not recognize Alexander Lukashenko's legitimacy as president of Belarus and impose strict sanctions against him, all his cabinet members, and his military and police force if he does not leave office immediately.
