Leonard thank you for everything. For decades your lyrics and melodies are in my bloodstream. Your generosity and grace knows no bounds. Your anthem says it all, 'there is a crack in everything, that's where the light gets in.' Though you are gone, the light remains. In gratitude.
That shot of Leonard just absolutely trancing out to the Webb Sisters' vocals always gets me. It just speaks volumes about both the man's humility and his veneration of beauty. Rest well, Leonard! We'll try to keep the candle burning!
You could hear a pin drop during that song at every concert they did in those years - we were truly blessed to see him three times. Leonard was the best poet of the modern era, and whats more he perfected the union of poetry and song, of mind, heart and soul.
I was so fortunate to take my mother to Leonard Cohen’s final/this concert tour. When the show was over she looked at me and said “Well, I guess that’s it”. I asked her what she meant and she replied “If I never see another live performance, I am satisfied’. She has since passed on. This song, and concert are etched in my heart and memory forever.
If it be your will That I speak no more And my voice be still As it was before I will speak no more I shall abide until I am spoken for If it be your will If it be your will That a voice be true From this broken hill I will sing to you From this broken hill All your praises they shall ring If it be your will To let me sing From this broken hill All your praises they shall ring If it be your will To let me sing If it be your will If there is a choice Let the rivers fill Let the hills rejoice Let your mercy spill On all these burning hearts in hell If it be your will To make us well And draw us near And bind us tight All your children here In their rags of light In our rags of light All dressed to kill And end this night If it be your will If it be your will
This is how the angels look and sound. Thank you The Webb Sisters for this little piece of heaven. Thank you Leonard Cohen for making it all possible. RIP Maestro
This is paradise,if you don't get it here, you won't get it anywhere....perhaps you have missed your calling, and will be reborn for another round of birth death reincarnation as we all will be.
Almost impossible to pray at times. Church is the least place to find the Lord. These beautiful soft songs are my prayers to God. They help me to connect.
Thanks. Every time I hear this beautiful "If It Be Your Will," tears fill my eyes. Beautiful. May the Lord be with the Webb Sisters, always: "The Lord reigneth; let the earth rejoice!": Salve Regina.
Can you imagine what it feels like to compose a song, and have it sound like something in your mind, and then have it manifest itself in sublime voices......... epic.
One of Canada's great treasures. He always draws in amazing artists to interpret his psalms and sonnets and secrets of life; the Webb Sisters are amazing. Surely, angels would stop in flight to listen. Thanks albertnoonan.
This is a beautiful song and lyrics written by a great Canadian Jewish artist who lived in a monastery as a monk where he didn't speak for a number of years After overcoming depression he has emerged as one if the greatest artists of our time. This song is more of a prayer and by the looks of things it has been answered Saw him in concert - it was perfection perfection
Yet another example of why Leonard is Immortal. Timeless inspiration for all of us. These ladies take his work to an additional higher level. Such is the spirit of man and woman. Thank You.
I was at this, an incredible performance. I'm not a religious person but I certainly worshipped at Leonard's altar that evening. He was simply mesmerising, all the musicians were incredible, and, as you can hear, the Webb Sisters, along with Sharon Robinson, were angelic. So long Leonard old friend
Perfect; it just gets better every time they do it. Leonard must feel he's gone to heaven to listen to this every night. Thank you, girls; you've given me the most sublime pleasure through this interpretation.
OMG. THIS IS SUCH AN AWESOME, AWESOME SONG. I think I will say this same prayer. I love this. If you haven't heard this, you've got to hear this. Now THAT is A SINGER'S PRAYER.
It's beautiful. I use to read this lyrics to my father who passed away this year. I just couldn't hold my tears back. Thank you Dear Leonard, you truly speak to the soul.
My Last years prayer and I started to play the harp A 47 yr promise to me from my husband, turn bucket list. I learnt a very easy score of Allelujah and today I am still enjoying the company of my husband. Thank You Webb Sisters and Leonard Cohen
Comment from Marlene Brackenborough This is the first time I have seen and listened to this unbelievably beautiful, humble and gracious offering from the "God of poetry, song and verse" I am moved to tears by its simplistic beauty, the Webb sisters harmonizing perfection to perfection. I am in the final countdown of my life and listen/watch the senior Mr Cohen constantly. He reaches into my soul like no one else ever could or has. I always see a "holiness" in his countenance which comforts the fear of my advancing demise. It dispels all my fears. So, I watch and I listen mesmerized by this elderly gentleman that I adore so very much. I liked him as his younger version, but he had a bit of "arrogance" going on there !! He mellowed into his elder self like an natural morphosis, this natural occurrence taking him to the ethereal status of his seniority. Leonard Cohen, I love you and miss your earthly genius so very much. Thank God that your poetry and song will outlive your earthly body by so many decades. RIP maestro.
I currently have the cd that these ladies made a few years ago...so now, I can listen to this beautiful song when ever I like. Thank you Mr. Cohen for all of your great music that you left us with. May you rest in peace my brother... you will be greatly missed!!!
And I was there on that night in Belfast almost 10 years ago to the very day. When I heard the master recite and the Webb sisters sing this prayer. You could have heard a pin drop ... exquisite 💚🇮🇪💙
Simon Browbridge, thank you. Your wise advice is given caringly and I appreciate it. I do not use social media much. This time has been one in which I have been weak, but I have regained a lot of my real self. I will remember all you have said, inspirational words, kind comments and warnings. I am fortunate to have communicated with you - a good person and one who knows Christ. I am thankful for your offer to be contacted and will remember it. God bless you.
