is an alternative to war, we used stickball giving by the creator to settle disputes between tribes or villages or disagreements, even though some lives were lost, less lives were lost if tribes fought on a battle field.
The sticks were used as clubs, there were broken bones and cracked skulls and if a player was hurt or killed he was laid or dragged off the field until the competition was over.
A certain amount of points was agreed upon and was usually 11, the game didn't end until the first team reached 11, the game lasted days.
The warrior were those who were skilled hunters they had to be fast and quick ability to move, this warriors were the most targeted and Conjures used medicine so their team would be Victorious.
Each team would fast for seven days and certain foods the warriors couldn't eat or only a drink called the black drink would be provided for the warriors on the field.
the location of the field was kept secret until game day to keep the Conjures from using medicine on the filed.
The day of the Game each team would walk in from the the opposite of each other, one side would woop and the other side would woop and they would proceed to the middle each woop.
in the middle the chief would explain how much the game meant and the rules were discussed only a few rules were agreed to and the outcome of the game.
One Main Rule was No touching the Ball with your hands.
There was a Great Game played near Gaper Georgia for a piece of land called Coosawattee and it was betwwen the Creeks and Cherokee and the out come was the cherokees won.
Today we play as a recreational sport 30 v 30 on a football size field.
Last few years we've even started a competition of 10 v10 or 12 v12 style of stickball.
Stickball has always been in our Culture and we pass it on to our youth, But in todays games we have rules as we have lives to attend and remain respectful to our Ancestors who had to fighr for their lives and lands.
one of the rules on a battle field was to leave it on the battle field, this why we used medicine and went to water to wash off the others medicine.
