Head Coach: Bill Belichick? Defensive Coordinator: Nick Saban? They have a future ahead of them!
@markrobertson2196
@markrobertson2196 4 года назад
They did, following 1994 Nick Saban left for Michigan State, 1995, we all know what happened, Art Modell announces he's moving the team to Baltimore for the 1996, team falls apart following the announcement and after the move is approved and settlement is reached, Art decided not to take Belichick to Baltimore with the team and fired him

I don't wanna hear any of that Belichick failed in Cleveland crap. It took a couple years but as a young HC, he turned the fucking Browns into a playoff winning team WITHOUT a franchise QB. Then in 1995, Art Modell announced he was moving the team to Baltimore and the team stopped competing after a 3-1 start. Hell, I probably would've too. It was a dick move by Modell. BB is a brilliant football mind and at least 5 (arguably all 6) of Brady's championships are built on the backs of BB's defenses making key plays or mowing down a high-flying offense. That doesn't mean Brady isn't elite, a legend, and a HOFer, but his rings are not because of himself alone. Anyone who's watched football for 20+ years understands this, whether you like BB as a person, or not.

Bill is a fuckin legend but there were times tommy had to carry the pats. 2011 for example the pats had a horrendous defense and Tom still got them to the super bowl. I do however think Tom will miss bill more then the other way around. Bruce arians is not bb.
@StukInBuf
@StukInBuf 4 года назад
@Scotch and Cigars(open): Before Belichick became the Browns HC, the Browns were a perpetual playoff factor, and then injuries and so on decimated them in 1990. Belichick, having learned from Bill Parcells, started building a team like the Giants; who knows how much more they could've accomplished in Cleveland had Mr. Modell not decided to move them to Baltimore?

I remember this game. A Saturday if I recall. The Browns played great that day. That's the last season they were truly dominate. I always loved seeing games broadcast from Texas Stadium. Dallas always wore white at home (and still does). The visiting teams colors always looked so vibrant and bright, much more vivid than at any other stadium, maybe it was because of the partial cover/roof. Texas Stadium always had the visiting teams colors and name on the goal post pad in the left end zone. I always thought that was a nice touch. I also remember the very wide white sideline stripe that Texas Stadium had; at least three times wider than any other stadium. Great memories from a Browns fan. BTW, in response to all the players with the huge pads......they had to have those huge pads. That old Astroturf was literally like playing on concrete. Finally, on the extra point after the Cowboys first TD early on, does anybody else think the goalpost looks a bit crooked?

I wouldn't rush to judge him on this game....his first time facing Belichick & Saban's pattern-matching coverage scheme that is a staple in modern college and pro defenses now, but in 1994 it was something that Aikman had likely never seen except watching film and they probably couldn't get it figured out in the one week they had to watch Browns film and come up with a game plan

Had Cleveland stayed, we would probably be talking about the Browns the way we are about New England. Can you imagine Belichick coaching the Ray Lewis led defense, especially the 2000 Ravens team in Cleveland. Ed Reed and Ray Lewis under Belichick would have been fun to watch.

There's a lot of interesting things about this game...the obvious one being Bill Bellichik coaching a Browns team that ended up 10-4 (14 game season) and went to the Divisional round of the playoffs, after winning in the Wild Card round.....but another things that struck me as I watched this was how horrible Troy Aikman looked pretty much from the start, he threw 2 picks but I counted about 7 that were wither dropped by the defender or just badly placed balls....also, Charles Haley had a monster game defensively for the Cowboys, a nice little sack and a whole bunch of tackles as well as that forced fumble at the goal line on Leroy Hoard (who was a stud at Michigan in the late 80s)....and the last thing is Matt Stover, who went 4-4 in this game in his 4th year in the league, and then went on to play for 15 more years

To be fair that might have been the first time Troy Aikman had ever faced a pattern-matching defensive scheme. "Pattern matching" was to Belichick & Saban what the "west coast" offense was to Bill Walsh, a new way to defend the passing game that the NFL had not yet seen and now I would guess that almost every NFL team plays some form of "match" coverage at some point in the season, similar to how they've all incorporated some west coast concepts into their offensive playbook.

@zocuad6710 2 года назад
@@danthomas9170 I've seen film break down of Pattern matching coverages. I didn't know Belichick had something to do with it. It seems like Belichick came up with the answer to Bill Wash's West Coast Offense. He was in fact the defensive coordinator with the Giants when they beat the 49ers in the conference title game. And it baffled me on how the Giants defense kept the 49ers offense from scoring a bunch of points.

Every QB has a bad game and Belichick & Saban were running a coverage scheme ("pattern-matching") that was totally new at the time and this was surely his first time facing that style of defense.

It’s crazy to think how many great coaches came out of the Bill Parcells system. Belichick, Saban and Carroll all coached under him. Not to mention other guys who became NFL head coaches and coordinators.

The opening to this game was pretty in depth. Talked about how the Packers, Steelers and 49ers dominated past decades of the Super Bowl era but none won it 3 straight years. Dallas was a 2 time defending champ this season and ended up winning 3 in 4 years, something the Patriots have also done.
