nice .. been to Caracol 4 times now flown a drone there once ..we went to El Pilar while the couple we had come with went to the ATM 20 days before the camera ban .. probably one of the last videos made of it by the public. Cahal Pech is such a beautiful little ruin we visit every time we are in San Ignacio .. we like Knox Hannah great local place..you can only do so much as you say its why we have been back so many times funny you mention feb we would have been there accept for 19 .. but we will return .. out on the road to Caracol right after Malfunction Junction .. is Bol's Museum Cave we got to video down inside the place you access it through a hole in the ground the size of manhole .. really exciting great vids will tag along to Caulker which is a place we have only been on day trips while out and about from Ambergris Caye .. so look forward to your take on Secret Beach when we first went you had to know someone to get the location .. it was a secret beach .. on to caulker

Did you rent a 4x4 or sedan?

Thanks for the vids. Hey, the drive to Caracol? How would you describe the conditions? We are going and are pretty adventurous but the 4x4 thing is a bit nervous making.

It was definitely adventurous! There was only a small portion of this road that was paved. Aside from that it is a moderately maintained dirt/gravel road (pot holes, divots, etc - not terrible though). If you drive carefully and are conscious of the weather conditions, you should be just fine. The riskiest parts that we remember include a 1 lane bridge (about 100 meters long over a fast moving river, no guard rails or curbs to prevent you from driving off the edge), a few muddy spots that could be tricky in rainy conditions, and the isolation. It is far from help if you get stuck - 35 kilometers between Caracol and the British military post at Douglas Da Silva. If you're worried about those risks, I recall hearing about a daily convoy between Caracol and Douglas Da Silva. Something worth looking into! We were just fine without the convoy on a dry day/driving a run of the mill jeep liberty.

Tours drive people to the ruins in 4wd vans so that should give you a decent idea. You don't need a truck or off road suv
