Apple's MagSafe battery pack can only do 7.5W as well (and it originally couldn't even do that at launch). It's capacity is the equivalent of roughly 3,000mAh when you convert the voltage to match what marketing teams generally use, so it is smaller than the competition simply because it has less capacity. And then the more advanced features of the Apple battery like the reverse charging from your iPhone can't be created by other companies simply because Apple won't let them. (Side note: It is ridiculous that Apple doesn't let you wirelessly charge your airpods from your iPhone like android phones can, especially when the reverse charging feature of the MagSafe battery pack proves the iPhone hardware is capable of it.
I bought this on impulse looking for a smaller power bank compared to the Anker 10k Qi2. Put aside the charging speed, the device gets hot! Now that I realised it’s the same charging speed, will stay with original Apple battery which I also own.
Another awesome review Stephen. Appreciate the honest review which occurs very rarely. Also thanks for the AMP App. I’m trying it out with all my chargers.
I was gonna get this until this review! I’m really impressed by your review man, and I ended up getting a few Anker portable chargers on Prime Day instead: the Nano power bank and MagGo. You just got a new subscriber!
I can't believe my luck. I bought the regular MagSafe Belkin power bank from Amazon by accident instead of the Pro, I didn't realise it was exclusive to Apple. I guess I saved myself some money! Thanks for sharing 😊
The only good thing about that is that it will probably make a noticeable difference with how hot it gets! sometimes there are other things that are convenient about these than just simply how fast it charges… sometimes it is just the simplicity of not carrying around a cable and adapter, and the freedom of not needing to be near an outlet… for $60 I don’t really agree that this isn’t worth the price just because it’s not charging superfast :) if I need that I have one of those heavy 20k mophie power banks that I can connect with a short USB-C cable for maximum charging speed… not to mention it can charge pretty much any other device as well 😊
yes, I have the 5k yellow one I agree, it take ages to fully charge my iPhone wirelessly i will probably only use this powerbank for emergency situations
I wonder what kind of extra requirements are imposed on the products that are sold at Apple Store. The ShiftCam SnapGrip sold by Apple Store dropped its wireless charging capability altogether. Also wish Apple could have kept the lightning MagSafe battery pack around for a while longer. Having that on iPhone 15 means you can charge both the phone and the battery with either cable.
Hilariously, I’ve been researching cameras, and when I saw the thumbnail, I was like “Slow Auto Focus?”. It took me a moment to realize that’s not what was being said at all. 😂😂
The battery probably doesn't have enough cells to make 15 watts, so it uses pass-through power from the USB-C port. Depending how batteries are wired, you can get capacity OR watts*. It's likely that the batteries are wired for capacity, because it would not have enough capacity if it was wired for 15 watts. It looks like the bigger battery has 3x more cells.
Great review. Thanks for your research in that. I’ll wait till next keynote in September and hopefully they’ll a second gen with qi2 with usbc onboard.
Super Video just wish you would’ve done a comparison of heat. I have „laut power charge crystal“ MagSafe powerbank and it’s heating up my iphone 15 pro a LOT. I would trade slower charging for less heat. Would’ve gotten the original Apple but in Germany alas you can’t get it any more
@@beardfm bummer. I was hoping the QI2 standard would act like the original Apple MagSafe battery, communicating with the device to negotiate power delivery. Do you think other QI2’s will do this better?
I gave up wireless charging completely, especially power banks. They are bulkier, they charge slowly and ruin the battery health. The best power bank is one that attaches to the USB-C/Lightning port like Anker’s Nano Power Bank.
I still like Apple's MagSafe battery (discontinued but you can still get on Amazon, eBay) otherwise the Anker Qi2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4b1VJ6OZkWU.htmlsi=vgPi1OhmP321lOZE
Was really hoping this battery pack would be good but thanks for the info. Mophie has their own 5k Qi2 battery pack called the “snap+ powerstation mini with stand” and would love to see a video on that one and see if that one could live up to the expectations of Qi2 🤞
Hello, I'm watching in Korea. I was thinking about the product in the video, but I'm looking to buy a MagSafe auxiliary battery as I changed to an iPhone 16 Pro model this time, can you recommend a lightweight 5000 mah one!!?
Technically the coil / hardware can be Qi2, and heat may still be better than regular Qi batteries, but the 15W speeds is the main improvement so it seems very strange.
It’s funny how much we hated the Apple magsafe battery pack, when it came out, it offended Apple; and they took it away, we are Sorry Apple, stop being whiny and release the next version already. 😅
Is the heat generated significantly reduced as compared to the non-Qi2 version, considering that both are charging at 7.5W when unplugged? This is the factor that most videos exclude as they mostly prioritise on reviewing charging speeds.
I was pretty excited when I saw it in the Apple Store and bought it, but just returned yesterday as it is nothing but a paperweight and cannot match any of the power bank even the cheap Amazon one's performance which are not even Qi2.
Hello, nice video. Quick question. Do you think only the Aker 10,000 and the Belkin 10,000K Magsafe Battery packs can support the 15W wireless charging? There was a Belkin Boost Charge Pro Wirellss Power Bank just released on August 23. Is that the same one that doesn't support 15W wireless charging or another one. Also, on Belkin's website they offer a 800K Mi2 charger. Do you plan to test that one and see if it supports 15W wireless charging? O r should I just get the 10,000 K one? Thanks.
I would just get the 10K Qi2 Belkin or Anker one. It seems those are the only ones that support faster charging. Even that other recent Belkin release does not.
Hi Stephen. Great review. Is the battery test app you used called “Total Amperes Battery Charge”? The screenshots in your video look identical to the App description. Anyhow I took the plunge as only £1.99. However when I launched, it says it takes a long time with iOS 17 and results might not be accurate as Apple removed a lot of functionality. It has been in a Starting Test for 30 minutes whilst on my charger and nothing happening” I suspect it isn’t the same app as it appears broken to me. Any chance of putting the app details so I can check please. Thanks
