Absolutely loved this movie! Gotta tell my sister, who is also a fan of old classic movies, to watch this. The songs from the movie are still playing in my head. God rest you, George Formby.
I love the old British comedies and when the UK film industry was at It's best, We had so much talent back in those days i.e. the great George Formby followed by Norman Wisdom and the legendry Carry On Crew, I think I read that at one stage it was Norman Wisdom and the Carry on films that kept pinewood studio's going. As things moved on you then move into TV with great comedy programs like, love thy neighbour, The Liver birds, man about the house, on the buses, George and Mildred, and many more. Yeah we only had 3 tv channels no remote control and a push button Black and white Tv that was rented with a coin slot on the back 😂😂 but I miss those days sat down with the family ( I was from a family of six ) some on the chairs and sofa and some on the floor but all laughing together, best times of my life.
DECK2509 I grew up watching George Formby!. True British Grit!. As the Old Saying Goes...... They don’t make em like that anymore!. I can’t help But cry when I watch all these George Formby Films. 😪 for an England that will never be again. People are to shallow, narcissistic and self obsessed to ever realise how much has been lost!😪😱
Such a feel good and great movie! Nowadays movies under the name of 'realism' show some things that are completely bizarre, and many of them even in so called comedy genre always feel dark and depressing and quite hollow sometimes! They really don't make movies like these anymore, no way! Which is just so sad.
@@davidbooth3285 A dollar, David. At that time and for a long time there were four dollars to the pound, so five bob was always a dollar. Two and six, or half a crown, was referred to as half a dollar.
I joined my first ship in 1971 as an ordinary seaman and had to sleep in a hammock. Mine was strung next to a deckhead upright and at sea I slept with my arm around it. One morning I woke to find myself looking at the deck. The night before I was a little too noisy for my mess mates. They tied me in and turned me upside down. I missed both watches and incurred the wrath of the chief bosun's mate. 14 days 9s and 30 days stoppage as a consequence. Saved 2 pays and had a right old time a month later. 26 cents per 10 oz glass of beer and I could get smashed and a small pizza for $10. The ladies on the corner only charged $10 as well. Ah yes those were the days of free and easy living. Not like this stifling political correctness gone bonkers. What happened to the bosun's pipe wakey wakey. We never had bugles except last post on ANZAC Day. Now that's a laugh and a half. What a pity your fathers and mothers had to meet.
It was Fleetwood, the fishing boats had FD numbers on them and the chase at the end was filmed in Lord Street in Fleetwood. I sailed from Fleetwood on trawlers during the mid 1960's to 1970.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-POO4lrTclNY.html
Harrogate st when he was young George suffered from a bad chest so the family bought a detached house in Walthew. House Lane in Kitt Green for his health .
15:43 Has to be the most Hideous Hairstyle Fashion that youngsters EVER wore in human history. This abhorration of a Hairs’ Shape resembles a man made Art Deco Palace x Ice Cream Cornet & for me removes everything feminine, beautiful, pretty , individual, sweet etc . It resembles a Uniform for Ladies to match with their Industrialised Mechanistic Clockwork Servants’ Place in the office , home or farmyard of the time. Were they ever allowed to remove these ridiculous head coverings or was such behaviour regarded as weird ? Was it just America & British Isles women whom wore this silly Lido on Acid design ? No wonder their daughters got angry and became feminist 😳😇❤️
