I've been wearing this helmet for 3 years now and I absolutely love it. Super comfortable, very convenient sun visor and flip down shades, the face shield flips up and out of the way nicely, feels great in the wind and keeps my ears nicely protected. I get so many people asking me about it too, everyone wants the Star Wars pilot helmet! 😁
Thank you for your thorough overview of the Bell Mag-9 helmet. I accidentally bought the smh 10 sena, now I know why it wasn't fitting. I'll get the Bell kit to make it work.
Not yet, but maybe that will be the next step for Bell. I can say it's pretty easy to install a Sena on any helmet, even without the integration. I've installed the SHM10 on my Arai XD3 and I also tested the SMH10R on my Arai Quantum 2 with no problems. ~Ali
No, this version of the unit doesn't have a plug for headphones. The speakers are wired into the unit instead of being removable like in some of the other clamp kits. -CK
There is usually a little guide arm that comes down from the centre of the recess where the visor lives. If you can get that hooked up, the rest should fall in place nicely. If not, give our Gear Geeks a call. -CK
The Mag-9 Sena SMH-10 is the only one designed specifically for this helmet and the cutout along the side. However, you could use a 3M sticky mount to attach an SMH-5, it just wouldn't be integrated. -CK
We definitely had a couple of weeks there where we were getting everything dialed in. Check out the most recent videos for our best lighting material. -CK
Sun visor doesn't look dark enough, and it doesn't look like it comes down very far, complaints I have with a lot of helmets. I usually end up using the drop down sun visor in combination with a dark shield to get the level of sun protection I want.
I bought the Mag-9 and SMH10. I'm very happy with the helmet. The SMH10 needs more volume when playing music, otherwise it is fine. I ordered the helmet first. Then I ordered the Sena unit that is packaged to go with the helmet so no extra parts were required. I understand if you already have a SMH10 you will need to buy another part to make it work with this helmet.
Yes, if you already have a standard SMH-10, you will need the Bell Mag 9 Sena SMH-10 Clamp Kit. -Hi-Viz Brian www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bell-mag-9-sena-smh-10-clamp-kit
Great Helmet . You need to mention that there is a clamp that goes with this to fit in the helmet. I bought the helmet and the SMH10 unit. After the purchase the store ( not Revzilla) called me and said they forgot that there was another part that I had to order. The part has been on backorder for 2 weeks. This sucks. Next time I will go through you guys. You would have known this . Your staff in the Philly store is great.
I purchased the new Bell Mag 9 helmet on May 28th and at the same time ordered the Sena Bluetooth unit specially designed for the helmet. It's now August 3rd and the Sena is still "Back Ordered"
That's a shame. If you're interested, we have it in stock. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bell-mag-9-qualifier-dlx-sena-smh-10-bluetooth-headset
I purchased this helmet in my correct size but the side pods or cheek pads make it hard to get on and off. I have a round face and wear X large but the side pods are too tight on my face, so I removed them and it's real easy to put the helmet on and take it off and much more comfortable. Any larger than X large would be too big.
I bought this lid right before a ten day trip. I bought the correct mounting and ordered the size i normally use , This helmet was the worst lid I've ever owned for comfort. The snaps caused horrible hot spots and eventually just plain sore. The padding is the least comfort material in any lid i've owned and it is a shame in my view that such a clever design idea is so lame in it's actually execution and workmanship . Longest ten days I've ever spent on a bike. I crashed my bike and the lid basically was not usable after that and the flimsy design on the drop down visor was destroyed in the impact. I was glad in a way it was what I was wearing when I crashed as my insurance company paid me for a new one and needless to say I did not buy one like it..... Great idea, great looking design , great features, total crap execution and padding was just totally inadequate and yes it did allow me to suffer a concussion even thought my head was the last thing to impact the truck I hit.
Schuberth makes a unit for the S2 and Nolan makes one for the N86. The Sena SMH10R is a very popular universal system that's low profile. -Hi-Viz Brian * www.revzilla.com/nolan-n86-helmet * www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/schuberth-src-s-system-for-s2-helmets * www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-smh10r-bluetooth-headset
So if you get a 10S you couldn't make use of the upgraded speakers as you need to use the older version that comes with the mount? Is that right or am i missing something? thanks!
You are correct. You would not be able to use the new speakers, since you need to use the Bell/Sena mount with the older speakers. You could cut and solder new speakers to the Bell/Sena mount speaker wires though. -DrewZilla
I don't believe the video mentions it, but the 10S will fit along with the SMH10. It takes this clamp kit below. -Kraus-e *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bell-sena-10s-clamp-kit
Listen carefully. At 8:45 the presentator says "you can buy that $40 piece". What he should have said is: YOU HAVE TO BUY THAT $40 PIECE TO MAKE THIS WORK with the Sena SMH-10. I assumed (ass-u-me) that if I had a Sena SMH-10 with a headset, I could buy the helmet and I could integrate the Sena SMH-10 with the Helmet. NOPE. There is a seperate headset you must buy. Similar in appearance but designed slightly different and it cost $40. To actually use this helmet plan on spending $219.
It won't sit flush in the Bluetooth pocket because the pocket was designed for the shape of the Sena Bluetooth unit. However, it will attach to the outside of the helmet. -Hi-Viz Brian
Yeah I figured it wouldn't fit in the pocket as different shape etc. Thanks for the quick response. I see the Mag 9 in my future! Order from you guys of course! Thanks again
To clarify, the helmet does not come with the speakers and microphone. If you get the specific speakers/microphone clamp for the Mag-9, the microphone is fixed to the clamp and cannot be separated from the clamp and speakers. Take a look at the link below to see what I mean. You would need to remove the entire speaker/microphone clamp, which is inconvenient. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bell-sena-smh-10-10s-clamp-kit-2012
The Sena 20S cannot be used with the recessed side port, but it can be mounted traditionally with the 20S helmet clamp mount that comes with the 20S. -DrewZilla
So what you're saying is the 20S will work, it will just stick out more? Correct? Because this is a great helmet and I want to get the extra mount so I can use my 20S on it in addition to my half helmet.
There should be an instruction book that was included with your helmet, but the short instructions are to unsnap the sides of the peak visor from the sides of the helmet. That frees the face shield so it can easily be pulled off. -DrewZilla
2X? TWO-X?? That's it??? Once upon a time Bell understood that there was a market for larger helmet sizings. Apparently that day has come and gone. Thanks Bell....you just sold a competitors product!
