We would unass that bird fast, once you started hearing rounds coming through the skin you wanted to get the hell off in a hurry. Those pilots had brass balls being a sitting target like that. My hat is off to them!
Hueys only touched down for only 15 to 20 seconds - touching down meaning floating a couple of feet above the ground - before taking off again... That's some bad reenactment right there
@@godsownlunatics9650I hope this is experience cause those things are 1 input away from falling to the ground nearly all the time. Not to mention mast bumping. Feel like the rotor would fly off as soon as you go start going inverted. But I've only flown them in really good sims so if you actually have done this I'd love to know how you counteract the mast bumping and possible RBS. Genuinely curious.
@@lilIAN97huh Weird idea I had but haven't been on DCS to test is I wonder if it's possible to keep the rotor loaded with centripetal/centrifugal force. Basically maybe you're safe as long as you roll fast enough
@@Uglymug96 In dcs that most likely wouldn't work in my experience. Nearly any quick movement of the rotors causes mast bumping. Cant tell you how many times i have quickly tried turning, rolling, or pitching up or down from aa or a missile and watching my rotor fly away while falling to the ground lmao. If anything you'd want to go gradually into the roll. Real life may be different which is why I didn't wanna call him out if he's flown one before. Now that I read his comment again it makes even less sense though. All the pedals do is control yaw or the rotation around the helicopters vertical axis. Pitch and Roll is controlled with the stick/collective (i say both cause utilizing them both correctly will cause more maneuverability). If you mean the barrel roll itself needs to be quick then I'd agree depending on if it causes mast bumping or not. Pedal input may assist in the maneuver but is definitely not everything you need to do. Now I wanna try out different things to see if it's possible as well but my hotas throttle broke a couple months ago. Don't wanna drop the money on a new one yet. Edit: Sorry for the essay 😅
I guess that demonstration was for the people to see a little of what it was like. We all know that wasn’t even close. Thank you all for your service and welcome home.
I used to run the ground assault portion of Army Aviation heritage foundation s airshow. The FAA will not let us jump off the birds until after touch down that's why you see the guys sittin tight until the crew chief gives them the go signal that he got from the AC (aircraft commander) Although it may or may not have happened at Ft Campbell once I still remember landing in a heep in some tall grass looking up to see the crewchief wearing a huge smile and laughing his head off.
Having been at this reenactment, it was an airforce pilot who did this on behalf of the the indiana military mueseam, doing an authentic landing would be really dangerous right by a large crowd. in this instance it was safety first.
They got outta that chopper like they just finished an eight hour road trip and they all just woke up in the car with stiff joints. . . I've seen octogenarians with IBS move faster.
Hmmm now they have “Vietnam War Enactments” maybe I should tell my dad who was drafted and served during Tet. He was a “Tunnel Rat” but I don’t think he wants to see reenactment of a war that he absolutely hates
I can't even imagine being a tunnel rat. I've read so much about them and it gives me anxiety just reading or hearing about them. That is the pinnacle of courage.
The sound of UH-1B/C/D/H Are Music to Every GI Ear they know That Helps, are Coming specially when they heard the Riding of the Valkery or Paint it Black by Rolling Stone or Voodoo by Jimi Hendrix
I agree with all these comments, they had to make it quick and heli had to get out as fast as possible...this slow u believe everyone would end up getting killed including heli... To all Vietnam vets and all vets ,much respects and thanks
They looked as if they didn't wanna leave the Huey: "You get off," "No, you first," "OK fine, i'll do it," A not very believable re-enactment, to be honest 😂
Super cool and cheers for sharing but where are the pigs suppressing treelines. Do you guys need a couple of blank firing M60s? I may be able to help with that.
Only the genius can came up with helicopter design because nếu blades design corectly it will stay in the air even no power . my brother flew it and when i Join navy he bet to me with 100 m head and still beat me
Every time I hear a Chinook flying over, I look into the sky with the hopes of seeing a Huey. The classic sound is very unique just like a MH-65 Dolphin helo.
