"Bella ciao" (Italian pronunciation: "Goodbye my beautiful") is an Italian protest folk song that originated in the hardships of the mondina women, the paddy field workers in the late 19th century who sang it to protest against harsh working conditions in the paddy fields of North Italy. The song was modified and adopted as an anthem of the anti-fascist resistance by the Italian partisans between 1943 and 1945 during the Italian Resistance, the resistance of Italian partisans against the Nazi German forces occupying Italy, and, during the Italian Civil War, the Italian partisan struggle against the fascist Italian Social Republic and its Nazi German allies. Versions of "Bella ciao" are sung worldwide as an anti-fascist hymn of freedom and resistance.
These songs are for educational purposes and don't reflect my beliefs or are meant to further a political agenda and social.
Lyrics & Version in Finland:
Aamulla varhain kivääriin tartuin
Oi, bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.
Aamulla varhain kivääriin tartuin, sen käänsin kohti sortajaa.
Aamulla varhain kivääriin tartuin, sen käänsin kohti sortajaa.
Käy partisaani nyt rinnalleni
Oi bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.
Käy partisaani nyt rinnalleni ja kohtaloni aavistan.
Käy partisaani nyt rinnalleni ja kohtaloni aavistan.
Kun surmaluodin, saan taistelussa
Oi bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.
Kun surmaluodin, saan taistelussa, toverit minut haudatkaa.
Kun surmaluodin, saan taistelussa, toverit minut haudatkaa.
Sen haudan ylle, kauniina jääköön
Oi bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.
Sen haudan ylle, kauniina jääköön vuoriston kukka kasvamaan.
Sen haudan ylle, kauniina jääköön vuoriston kukka kasvamaan.
Niin, että kansa voi vuoritiellä
Oi bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.
Niin, että kansa voi vuoritiellä sen nähdä hiljaa hehkuvan.
Niin, että kansa voi vuoritiellä sen nähdä hiljaa hehkuvan.
Se kaunis kukka, on partisaanin
Oi bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.
Se kaunis kukka, on partisaanin, vapauden vuoksi taistelleen.
Se kaunis kukka, on partisaanin, vapauden vuoksi taistelleen.

Ckeck Kom Teatteri, this is their version. Not sure if their are in Spotify, as they were pure communist left wing choir back then in '70-80s here in Finland.... Singing the good songs for the cause!

Beautiful song for sure, but gotta keep in mind that in the 30s even former finnish communist revolutionaries had become nationalists who love their country, and died fighting for it agains the soviets. Once everyone saw what communism really is no one wanted that shit. The very few finninsh communists who fled to the soviet union after the civil war got sent to the gulags... obviously they fled because they would have been executed here for treason but still... That alone destroyed the thoughts of finnish communism. FYI this song was originally a Italian communist song, this cover of the song doesnt really bring up communism.

Well not exactly, you see, the communists who fled to USSR were divided in two camps, others around Edvard Gyllings national communism, and others around Otto Wille Kuusinen and his more orthodox Marxist Leninism. Gylling tried to make the Finno-Karelian SSR into a Finnish socialist society, and made Finnish to be taught in all schools and declared that they (Finnish communists in Karelia) must practice nationalistic policies in communist spirit. Gylling was shot in 1938 if I remember correctly. The communists who fought for Finland didn't fight against communism, they fought against Russia, there's a stark difference there.

I think the song has taken on more of an anti-authoritarian kind of meaning, despite its more communist origins. Others may see it differently though.
