They needed a temporary romantic obstacle to create a love triangle, so Bellamy and Clarke wouldn't get together for a bit longer.

It’s an obstacle to create tension between Bellamy with the two most important women in his life , Clarke and Octavia . It’s also an obstacle used to inevitably bring Bellamy and Clarke together . It happens constantly in love stories . If anything him getting with echo just pushed Bellarke closer to being canon . If he woulda got with raven that woulda lowered the chances .

my thoughts exactly! The whole Becho thing needs to go, it is so artificial and the actors could very well have more chemistry with a rock than with each other

That’s the point , you see , Bellarke will be end game and they needed a temporary relationship to make Bellamy to see how much he loves Clarke and realized he made a mistake staying with echo

God this is beautiful! I actually stopped watching the show midway through season 5 because it was just irritating me too much and have just been keeping up on whats happening by tracking the bellarke tag on tumblr but this video is making me want to give the show another chance!
