The child I used 2 be is the man I am today because of this ghetto in the sugarcane fields. We struggled/we hustled/we played sports/we worked/we fought/we had shoot outs/we learned respect/we cried/we laughed/we loved/we stole/we hung out. Belle Glade produced every kind of human being. RIP 2 my mama and all the original people who loved this city since it’s inception in 1925. [posted March 21, 2020]

Florida Cez888 @ Rarebreed Gray - Facts bro, My little brother and sisters are Jamaican 🇯🇲 from that same scenario.. Their Dad took care of us working for the Sugar Mill.
was about to say the same thing LMAO it definitely looks like Nigeria or Kenya if you don't look at cars and if you focus primarily on hand-painted signs on commercial buildings, or how residential concrete buildings are poorly finished.
When you visit states along both coasts and the Midwest and most of the south you'd see what's expected of America, but the only State that breaks expectations is Florida. Florida to me looks like what should be an island off in the Caribbean.
@@SlyMonie Laurenze_WithA_Z I agree with you that Florida's biodiversity and topography is vastly different from the stereotypical America, but there is a state and a few territories that are pretty similar; Hawaiian islands, Guam, Saipan. Community wise though, I'd have to disagree; there are pockets of communities in almost every American state that would give Florida a run for it's money. The bayou of Louisiana, the Lakota reservations of the Dakota's, the Hopi reservations of Arizona, Many communities in Alaska. Poverty knows no boundaries.
Shoutout to BELLE GLADE. It breaks my heart to see people living in run down places like this. Everyone stay safe & healthy! Much love from Cali! 💞💓💖💕 🌴🌴🏖🌴🌴
Florida Cez888 Thanks for the info. It’s a small old town vs city without hardly any new and modern homes and commercial buildings etc. it’s not particularly very dirty. I can sort of feel the Jamaican and Haitian vibe. Being that this was once a sugarcane farming town, I wonder what people now do income.
So true... Belle Glade was a thriving lil place at one time but just like Gary Indiana when the steel industrys start leaving it mess them up too... That was my city. It might look ragged but it use to be the party town...
Both Belle Glade, Florida, and the Mar-a-Lago mansion, happen to be situated in Palm Beach County. There are times upon which I could cry over such socioeconomic extremities that are within such relatively closer proximities to one another 😭😭😭😭😭. I sincerely doubt that America will ever be a great country. I think I have also underscored at just how prospective government officials will say anything to get elected.
People need to know that this community is so isolated from the rest of palm beach county. When you think of palm beach county- this definitely doesn’t fit the mold. Even the ‘worst hoods’ on the coastal areas of PBC are different than Belle Glade. Belle Glade is country hood- out in the middle of Florida (way west of the rest of the county), it’s surrounded by farms and sugar cane fields and it takes at least an hour on a two lane road to get there. Nothing over there except the people who live there.
Belle Glade looks like it was literally swiped from Haiti or some shit. Good video, Charlie! What's your take on Belle Glade? Did the people seem welcoming?
The place is probably the most run down and poor looking places I have been, but the people are basically cool, There are a lot of Haitian people they are nice and mind there own business. Its strange to see chickens and roosters running all over the place.
For some reason this neighborhood looks "pretty" in a way. You'd probably get shot in the face in like five minutes but it seems really alive compared to a lot of hoods
Jmoney 777 no man I wasn’t trying to be rude, I was just saying this area in particular although it looks rough is actually more poor then it is dangerous. I love near here and there are some very dangerous hoods in Miami and Fort Lauderdale but they look much nice than here. Look up the area, it is almost all Haitian immigrant sugar farmers mostly for the dole family. They have hidden away this town purposefully due to a controversial history within the dole company. These people are just poor, not dangerous.
To give people some background on this place. Most of these people are Haitian and work for the sugar farms mid state. I live near here and it’s not necessarily a dangerous area, I wouldn’t even call it a hood. It is just very poor with almost 100% immigrants. Very interesting area because it really does look like you are in Haiti of some poor areas of the Bahamas. These are good people though, there are many parts of Florida I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking around and this is not one of those places. Very close to this area are some extremely wealthy neighborhoods.
I think it’s the hood, I got surrounded by these dudes with dreadlocks and wicks and they had guns, they looked like they wanted to just shoot me but later that night those dudes killed some teenager plus they shoot a lot of guns and ak47s at night
@@R32R38 lol never heard of Turkey? Portugal? Spain? Even the massive French coast? Beside that. There is something called motivation. There's plenty of people that manage to get out of the hoods, by working hard. Regardless of skin color. If you choose to do drugs, crime and hang out all day/night you'll never get anywhere. That's not related to privilege or rasicm but a blatant fact. People nowadays look for excuses to anything. They wanted freedom. They got it. What did they do with it. Turn once beautiful residents to absulute shit. If you deny this you are really really very blind and need to watch more of Charlie's videos. After that Google the same hoods in the 1960's and tell my I'm wrong.
@r s Also in south america. Imagine people living in wood houses, with plastic bags as a ceiling, and without sewer system or clean water. Yeah, there are worst things in the world than this.
@r s I know. It was just an example of what i actually see and know, because when i see people saying this place look like Africa or something like that makes me a bit annoyed.
I remember this girl that used to live there back in the early 90’s who was soooo beautiful but her parents kept her inside. Next thing I know they moved to Vancouver Canada. It was a sad day for me. I eventually moved away once I graduated from high school and went to college
That's cray! Going from such a poor place to one of the most expensive city's in the world, I mean as long as she didn't move to the downtown east side. Vancouver is expensive even for basics
Greg b One of her parents has recently published a novel and the other was a dentist so I’m sure moving to North Vancouver was a financial burden. They were actually really nice people but their daughter was being targeted by hateful ass kids so they left after her freshman year
@@armelle5626 What the HELL are you talking about?!? NOT ONCE did I mention I wanted to "hit that" or wished that she remained in that area. I said it was a SAD DAY for me because WE WERE HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS and I thought she was BEAUTIFUL. Doesn't mean I wanted sex or to tie her down you nut case. Rejection?? What rejection?? Again, we were good friends and I actually encouraged her to NEVER settle for this place and was GLAD when she left. So take your assumptions of the situation and SHUT UP! Take care.
joe oil How cute? My response to this video does not have to be appreciated by anyone. I said what I said. What is your point about a small town having 1 dollar general store when both neighboring towns have 1 and there are other similar competing stores within a 5 minute drive. There are multiple stores in Belle Glade so what are you looking to point out? And there are very well kept areas of Belle Glade and there are some nice homes, newly constructed housing, nice schools and new facilities for our youth that “someone” saw enough value and potential in the city to help fund the construction of. We are not a huge town full of malls and luxury restaurants but we are not just what was depicted in that video as well.
Lol it’s so funny watched your vids for years.. An this is my city born an raised.. I think it’s so beautiful.. it’s to be understood not seen.. thanks for the great video fam
@CarlieBo313 -- Have you ever considered a being a journalist and/or sociologist? You've got a big heart and and strong dedication my friend.. it shines brightly in your videos.
@@that_girl8889 It's not a farmer area. Belle Glades is the hood. There is alot of convicted felons that is released from prison early and are put undfer house/arrest at belle glades.
My folks stay in South Bay and PK (Pahokee) not too far from Belle Glade. Glade central has produced a lot of pro football players and still do today. Nothing has changed since I last visited and I don’t think it will.
The soil is many feet of ancient swamp organics..muck as it's nick named...very difficult to build on. Sidewalks deteriorate easily and most structures are built on piles. There's nothing particularly 'dangerous' in these streets. There are many who came from the Caribbean islands and Cuba...so the 'look' is somewhat typical. considering the economics of the town these delapidated neighborhoods are about as good as it gets in a once vibrant town. Compared to similar neighborhoods in Detroit..Belle Glade is heaven.
Nah fam. Belle Glade has its fair share of killers. Haitians and Cubans aren’t all a bunch of “model minorities” who just work hard and go to church. There are plenty of killers who have come out of Belle Glade. Haitian or otherwise. They aren’t any more moral than some Detroit hustler.
What makes this even a more scary is the fact that it's a small town especially in comparison to America's big cities. You would think they would run out of people to shoot out here. My work route brings me out to Belle Glade about once a week and I was talking to a customer that just had to bury his 41 year old son 2 weeks ago because he was shot in this very area...sad
Some of you'll sound real ignorant on here. The culture here is absolutely amazing. You would know if you've been. Its easy to criticize from afar. Shout out to The Muck. Her soil is her fortune.
I agree but come on now it’s 2020 and Bruh the cars that people driving are better looking then the homes . Seem to me y’all as a community accepted the conditions . I’m ifrom broward and no where like that smh but much love
Boss this goes both ways. I live here, matter of fact I live down APR. The people in this town ain't shit, mf go stealing from people that don't even have something to begin with. I ain't ganna say that's everyone though, cause there are some good souls in town. But shit, most of them ego is too boosted to one help one another.
@@twinsnails4983 I taught English at GC and it was the best experience in my life. Yeah, there are some misguided individuals, but the culture here is amazing. Shout out to The Muck!
God bless that wonderful little town, I have great memories there and felt the most peace I ever have in with all that lush green grass on the drive in and out! So beautiful 😍 😭
Those people at 8:45 - 8:58 on the left side of the video.....God bless them if they live in the boarded up house because any roof over your head is better than no roof at all. Prayers that the quality of life will get better for everybody!
Good ground for high school football recruits. Bowden said I'd he could recruit ever top pick in and south of Belle Glade he could win championship ever year.
@ I don't think there's any other hoods "way worse" than this but I do think Philly looks worse than this by a bit but this looks worse than Detroit in my opinion. All those abandoned neighborhoods in detroit were actually nice big homes at one point and it's dead
It doesn’t look too bad. At least it’s no trash lying around. The buildings just outdated. It needs to be redeveloped. People in the community must work together to improve their community
America is so big population wise and geographically....there are many pockets like this around the country, it's not as easy to standardize 'decent' living conditions when some of these communities are isolated and have no economic base.
@@KOJOKWAME7 Ot course it doesn't look this way now.... from what I remember back in the eighties only because Overtown has changed through out the years.
SHERROD HAUSA That’s a lie fuckboy. OT & Belle Glade are identical. The only difference is OT been gentrified and Belle Glade hasn’t. And OT is a small neighborhood while BG is a small city. Miami the most gentrified place in Florida. And even our nicest hoods look worse than everything in PBC EXCEPT Belle Glade.
@Shari Patrice wrong again lol. At one time Jamaica was one of the richest places in the British empire. The slave trade and sugar cultivation made it rich which was done one the backs of the black Jamaica people. No different than what happened in places like Belle Glade. Go learn something please 🤦🏾♂️
definitely the worst hood in florida. I'm surprised this even is Florida at all. What's the story here? I just looked it up on the map....it's in the middle of nowhere not even near a major city.
it used to be a hub for the sugar cane industry, its where the nickname "muck city" came from the mud in the fields. But now the sugar industry doesn't exist anymore its just been left to rot
I lived here as a kid in the 80s and 90s and when the white people own the houses the neighborhoods were nice and then the hation and Jamaicans came in and this is what you see.
This is an old black agriculture community in west palm beach south of lake okeechobee surrounded by sugar cane fields. The machines took over the factories now a lot of them don't work the fields anymore.
Dixie fried chicken is fresh chicken y’all should try it. It’s a good recipe but they gotta drop some paprika and cayenne and some other hot peppers and make a real spicy version of it. Guaranteed 85 percent of muck likes spicy
A great video channel of yours that shows real America , but not the tourist routes of Manhattan and North Hollywood . America is different , but the contrast is wild . Real devastation in the world's richest country , and this is a depressing sight we have seen since 1990 .
It does not and this was my hometown so u can stop talking about and all he did was stay on the messed up side because there are multiple parts of belle glade and it's a really nice place so before u go talking about places actually go there first
Sad thing is this area and it's people supply most of the USA with sugar but it looks like it's supplies nothing but depression and death 😭, my poor Jamaicans and Haitians leave there country just to end up in the same crap they left
@@1984-f7q I did I seen a lot of Charlie's interviews there good that's why I said I would like to see him do one here to see how the people of belle glade really live I'm from watts so I'm pretty sure its similar to over here just minus the gang shit that goes on here
It breaks my heart to see all these ignorant comments especially by grown adults who are supposed be quote-on quote mature with fully developed brains. As a teenager (16) who currently reside in this city , my city to be reading false accusation hurts. Even though my city may not look like yours does not justify you speaking as if you’ve walk these streets and meet these people. I never once felt danger in my community , yea its a little bit of crime here in there but name a place where a crime hasn’t happened ? . Belle glade is mostly full with migrants who all have stories as to why there here, but one thing that’s always common is that there here for a better life. One thing I can tell is that these people work hard but the city mayor and chairman’s are a different story.
It's hard to believe that this is in the United States because the buildings are build out of cinder blocks and concrete plaster with blasters railings just like most caribbean islands I know
Don’t only show the bad parts it’s plenty of nice houses in Belle Glade and a lot of educated people from this area with multiple degrees. Do you know how many NFL players the Muck has a produce?? Foh don’t only show the slums!
Thank you Charlie . Well this has definitely opened by eyes up to America , the rich and the poor are totally apart, here in England a street could have rich and poor in the one street and get along well sort of, well everybody chilling out nice weather all seem happy but very run down and why??? America got enough money to invest.... Stupid question but I take it no white people live here??? See England we all live together in most parts of England that is
it's because America is the land of unbridled greed and individualism....you guys AT LEAST have somewhat affordable education and universal healthcare.
This is a very old black agriculture community. They use to work the sugarcane fields until they were replaced by machines. This town is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farm fields. It has a lot of history unfortunately most of it is bad. Cheap slave labor. Watch the documentary "Harvest of Shame"
Walks with Reed yes England does have its benefits of healthcare etc but as I stated we don't have areas of just one race in London and the outskirts, As the saying goes life is what you make it , I work long hours to pay my bills etc but I do think the government should restore the buildings in America I really do. We don't have any building like this or like Detroit, that's a crying shame lovely lovely houses boarded up 🇬🇧🤗🇺🇸
Straight poverty me growing up in Watts California as a black want to see a comparison try hitting a suburban area and I bet he won't see any rundown building's in sight we gotta do better
