Of course we went to the KONA BIKE SHOP (woohoo!), "explored" many of the fab micro breweries, mountain biked local trails, and rode the InterUrban gravel trail to Taylor Shellfish Oyster Bar....dang that was a weekend packed with good times!

Do you find bicycle touring in other Countries better then in the US meaning in people and cost
@radbikeadventure
@radbikeadventure 4 года назад
Hi Derek. No I wouldn't say that. We actually met WAY more cycle tourists on our time down the Pacific Coast of the US than anywhere else on our trip. Of course there are places where a lot of cyclists travel so I think that has more to do with it than place (Pamir Highway, Baja California as of recent, etc.). Also depends on the season. In NZ we probably would have seen way more cyclists had it not been winter! And if you just mean people in general...I think there are wonderful people everywhere! (and not so wonderful ones as well...though this is a VERY small percentage). In the US we're a bit car-focussed...I'd say that is the big downside. Outside of their cars, I think we Americans are SUPER friendly and will talk to anyone, probably wanting to know your whole life story! (and we'll probably share ours too! Stereotypes but kinda true lol) Cost really depends on where in the world you are traveling. Asia is generally very inexpensive (aside from Japan & S. Korea). Africa is too (I've only backpacked, haven't cycle toured there...yet) Australia, Europe, NZ, Canada and the US have been about equal. Switzerland was pricey of course. Though anything can be affordable if you vagabond a bit, camp, stay w friends, hosts etc.

I am sure you ladies have taken a lot of judgemental bs but... as much as you ride hasn't a helmet saved your noggin at one point of another? Unless you are on a totally different level than I am, you know its possible to go to the ground in the blink of an eye. Do you find a helmet so uncomfortable that you just don't wear one? Granted I did wear a steel (then kevlar) helmet for at least 1/4 of my 21-year military career, but I hardly even notice mine when it's on unless there is a GoPro hanging on it. Glad you like the PNW, she's wet a lot of the time but extremely beautiful. Wow, that sounded suggestive. I think you ladies are "doing it" right. I love to find a base-camp to do day rides out of. Strip the bike down and wander around an area for a few days. Don't forget that it's legal to smoke pot in Washington. Here's a link to pictures I took on the Foothills Trail, 30 plus miles from Puyallup, WA to Enumclaw. photos.app.goo.gl/gLsVdLQR7BmstFhr7 It's a short jump (30 miles) to Rattlesnake Lake, and then the couple hundred miles of the Palouse to Cascade Trail (John Wayne Trail) with lots of camping spots. You're probably going down the coast? It's the route most people want to see. Ride safe... and put a helmet on damn it!

@radbikeadventure 4 года назад
That's one serious rig!! Beautiful pics too. Yes, we rode down the coast. As for the helmet, 90% of the time I wear a helmet I'd say. With traffic? Yes. Mountain biking? yes. Sometimes tooling about on a trail or a deserted street? Nope, I like to ride free. Typically when one falls off a bike they don't hit their head (usually broken wrist...i've seen some good hip scrapes too...including for myself when wearing a helmet...took a real good spill and road rashed my hands, elbows and hips hardcore. Head never even came close to the ground)...and cycling is actually a VERY safe activity statistically. Driving and being a pedestrian much more dangerous but I don't wear a helmet all day. But yeah, usually I've got one on as indicated in our videos. Aaaanyway, everyone has their own thoughts and STRONG opinions when it comes to the great helmet debate and those are some of mine lol 🤪

And yes, we've heard the John Wayne Trail is amazing. It's on the list!
