If you agree that smart is the best way to travel, you’ll want to give the Bellroy Transit Backpack a serious look. It’s a comfortable and stylish 28L pack full of well-thought-out organization-while still offering ample space in the main compartment.
If you've been around the gear scene for a while, you've probably heard of Bellroy. Its an Australian brand known for fashionable and dependable carry-on goods. And this new Transit Backpack is built to "flex between big commutes, adventure trips, and business travel.”
The Transit Backpack has everything you'd expect from Bellroy-and by that, we mean a sleek aesthetic, solid materials, smart pocket configuration, and a great blend of organization and open space. Although we have a couple of nitpicks, overall it's a solid travel backpack. And it could be a great option for your minimal one-bag travel backpack. Plus, we're convinced those small design details will continue to impress.

This is my goldilocks bag. Big enough for minimal travel, small enough for work EDC, sturdy and well-designed without being overbuilt. I'll stay subbed to the channel, but with this bag, a 10L Bullet, and the CTB40, I'm set for a couple decades.

Love the water bottle pocket implementation-no more worrying about banging my bottle into cars, posts, or people. Looks like you could fit a decent zoom lens in the other one for quick access too if that's what you're into. The only other thing I would have liked to see (well, apart from a smaller pricetag) is better lockability.
@PackHacker
@PackHacker 4 года назад
Hey Jed - thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Bellroy Transit Backpack with us! And, yeah there's room for a zoom lens in the water bottle pockets which is handy for quick access, but it does lack padding if you want that extra protection for your lens. Lockability is a great point, Jed, especially if you're planning on using this pack as a travel bag. 😊👍 - Rebecca

Hi guys, great job as usual. How do you think it compares in terms of internal volume against the new pakt backpack, I know you mention you wouldn't add another layer of packing cubes, but the main compartment seems pretty deep, actually, and the official external sizing from bellroy is also big at 21.26 in x 15.3543 in x 7.08667 in . Thank you

Dang, 86% like the look! I'm a huge fan, curious if they will release larger 35L bags. This would make for a great 2-3 night trip bag, especially if you can fit everything into a medium cube only, and a smaller toiletries bag on top to compete with the tech pocket they offer at the top. Fantastic review as always!

Hey, thanks for the great review. I have 2 questions though: 1. Size-wise is it possible to fit a small PD Camera Cube into the backpack or is it too high at 17cm? 2. You mentioned the differences in the colors and materials briefly but is there maybe more you can say about it? (e.g. how does the charcoal compare to black in terms of feel and durability) Thanks
@PackHacker
@PackHacker 4 года назад
Hey Martin! Currently, we've only tested the black version, so we're unable to verify the feel and durability of the other colorways available. And, when it comes to the Peak Design Camera Cube, it's pretty tight, so it depends on how you're packing the cube and the bag, but it should just fit into the Bellroy Transit Backpack. Hope this helps! 😊 - Rebecca

This is the most aesthetically pleasing travel workpack I have ever tried on. But after a week of daily testing, I had to return it and decided to keep my patagonia mini mlc 26l instead. Pros: 1. Sleek and minimalist 2. Good quality material 3. Super comfy strap and backpanel 4. Separate tech compartment 5. Two concealable side pockets Cons: 1. Packs less than my 26l patagonia despite it advertised as a 28l bag 2. The two side pockets will only comfortably fit small or slim water bottles. i have a rather slim 600ml water bottle and it is quite hard to take in and out of it I know it I listed more pros, but this is ME, and unfortunately the two cons are dealbreakers for me. When I got it, I really wanted to be able to pack more compared to my patagonia, but it couldnt. And I just have to have a good water bottle pocket. Still I woild recommend it to anyone who dont really need a water bottle pocket. It is so comfortable to carry guys

Hey MJS on the road - we get what you're saying, finding a bag that's going to work for you, really does depend on your travel style and use case. Bellroy decided to make a transit plus version which is 38 litres. It’s on the wider and slightly exceeds the width limits. If not totally packed out and used casually as a moderately packed carry on. Will it fit and squeeze safely on the overhead bins of international airlines ?
@orbispictus6127
@orbispictus6127 3 года назад
Totally, you can go up to 45L with most international airlines since they often have large spaces for carry-on barrages so it's definitely a good size.
@orbispictus6127
@orbispictus6127 3 года назад
and it depends on which class you choose. With standard economy, I'd say 40L and you would have to squeeze a bit but in overall it's no problem.

Hey KraKra - we just tested this out and the Bellroy Classic Pouch does fit in the water bottle pocket. However, it does depend on whether the pack and the pouch are at full capacity. If the pouch is at full capacity it's going to be a lot trickier to get into the pocket. 😊 - Rebecca

a question regarding the adjusting straps of the shoulder straps -> its essentially a kinda seat-belt material and from my experience with the Arcteryx Nomin, the adjusting straps will glide too easily over a short period of time and your shoulder straps will not longer be the same length as you initially adjusted to. This is amplified when your load is heavy. do you experience similarly on the Transit?

Nice review, but I think this bag seems like it's for someone who checks in a suitcase and this will be their carry on. The side pocket looked the perfect place for the passport. The size would suit some extra clothes and tech + camera to carry with you. Am I correct in this assumption? Happy to be corrected...

Hey Jon - we've found that how you use this backpack, really depends on you and your travel style. If you prefer to travel more minimally (some of our community travel with a 14L pack) then this bag will be a great option for one bag travel. But, if you like to travel with more items, then this pack will also be ideal as a personal item or daypack. 😊 - Rebecca

Hey Not Your Average Vegan - while Bellroy ensures all the leather it uses is tanned under gold-rated Leather Working Group environmental protocols-something we appreciate here at Pack Hacker-these small accents do make this bag unsuitable for those looking to avoid animal products. Hang on…you put two packing cubes in this and said it's wise not to pack another layer because otherwise you'd can't get into your external pockets. In your Synik review, you put a suit, and two packing cubes, and a dopp kit, AND all your work stuff, and you could still access all your external pockets. Then here you say the Bellroy's got more main compartment room because it's more squared off. >x-|
@PackHacker
@PackHacker 4 года назад
Hey Roger! If you pack another layer, this is more likely to eat up the space of the other pockets rather than decrease accessing them. So, if you're not planning on using these pockets, it's possible to add more into the main compartment, but this really depends on you and your travel style. With just one layer you can take full advantage of the pockets on the top flap and the exterior pockets. Hope this helps! 😊 - Rebecca
