My favourite 10 simple exercises for Bell's palsy. Easy to learn and to perform. Facial exercises should be done in front of the mirror and you can repeat each exercise 10 to 20 times.
Raise eyebrows Combine with looking up Angry eyes Close eyes tightly Wrinkle your nose Flare nostrils Smiley face Kiss face Puff your cheeks Check tounge push Pencil teeth
Thank you for sharing this valuable information and for the clear instructions in this video, it was really helpful and I think it was a big help during my recovery and I still repeat these everyday until My affected musles are in 100 percent ❤
Thanks for sharing. I started doing these exercises 3 weeks ago with the help of my physiotherapist. I was so happy that after the 1st week, I could move my eyebrows again. Now at week 3, I'm almost back to normal.
@@shawtdusanshawt the exercises in this video alone should be enough, but I also had my physiotherapist do massage therapy to speed up the process. I did these exercises every morning, so once per day. I would wake up, wash my face then do these as the first thing of the day; from Monday to Friday, and rest on the weekend (my physiotherapist told me it would be better if I could do on weekend as well). I do these like this: Raise my eyebrow with the help of your hand for 3 seconds, rest for 1-2 seconds, repeat for 30s. Rest a bit if you feel tired, then to the next exercise. A 30min session of these exercises should make you feel dead tired after.
After almost 4 years since the right of my face got messed up due to stress, I'm still not fully recovered. I noticed that exercise and eating healthy in general helps a lot. Getting sun helped me a lot too.
I have Bell's palsy since i born . Now i'm 17 yo , that's mean 17 years of suffering . Now i'll Start doing this exercises and see if it works for me 😊 " ALHAMDULELLAH"
Hello, that is an excellent question. The reason why I recommend starting exercise after about 2 weeks is physiology. For the first dozen or so days after the Bell's palsy, the nerve is practically completely paralyzed, i.e. it is impossible to make almost any movement with the affected side of the face. If at this point you try to force movement by exercising in front of a mirror, your brain will systematically send information to muscles that will not respond and will not give positive feedback. It is completely different when nerve conduction begins to return (which usually happens after about 2 weeks). Then you only support the movement of the muscle to which the impulses are already reaching, which gives the appropriate feedback to the brain. In addition, the muscles of our face usually work symmetrically. If you force a movement too much, with one side completely paralyzed - the other (unaffected) side will be more stimulated. This leads to a very dangerous, pathological distribution of muscle tension. In my experience, Patients who start rapid, intensive rehabilitation through exercise from the first day after paralysis, more often develop synkinesis. That is why I personally recommend that you start exercising only when you see at least the slightest active movement of a given muscle. Have a great day!
Hello doc …m from India and I got my acoustic neuroma treated a year back and removed tumour of my right ear nerve and immediately my right face is having paralysis..MRI shows the face nerve is intact and stimulation shows contractions too ..but there is no improvement on my face Pls suggest what should I do ..I am having physio sessions alternate day and also PEMF ..pls suggest cause it has made me very depressed and socially uncomfortable
Would this help someone like me who doesn't have Bell's palsy, but has asymmetry of both the visible facial features as well as movements of the face? E.g. my left side does not have as much movement as the right side, therefore my left eyebrow sits higher up and my smile is not as wide on the left side.
I don't know if you read this comment but i really wanted to know the answer. So 4 years ago when i was 13 years old i was in a car crash and ever sincem y right of face doesn't move and i rarely did exercises. I wanted to know if it is possible to recover now after 4 years ?
this helped me so much cause i woke up at 3am after an ear infection with my face feeling weird went to the er thinking I had a stroke and got diagnosed with bells palsy on the left side of my face its early got some antibiotics and antiviral meds with steriods but already my left cheek is starting to move more. Drinking or eating feels so weird.
Hey. I hope you're doing well. I want to share something with you. In jan 2022 i was diagnosed with GBS. The variant was AIDP. I became completely paralyzed. I was on ventilator for 18 days and was in hospital for almost 2 months. It took me 4 months to completely recover. Now i have bilateral facial palsy. I have done NCS test several times and it shows that my facial nerves are almost recovered. Right now i cant laugh properly and dont have proper expressions. My facial muscles are weak. I need your help.
I developed Bell's palsy in December 2022 and it is almost 80% cured but my eye on the affected side is small and sunken in nature please give me a solution
I was diagonised with Bell's Palsy about 3 weeks ago. Today I'm 90% cured. Dear Bell's palsy warriors, don't be upset, it will be ok. The only thing you need to do is being consistent. Do the facial nerve stimulation treatment consistently in physiotherapy section, and also along with that do facial exercise atleast 3 times a day, take your medicines on time and eat healthy food. At the beginning of 2 week sometimes you feel no change and it will make you desperation.. But its ok 'TRUST THE PROCESS'..At the end you will be Ok.. And also the main point to remember is, if you don't feel any changes in your facial expression even after two weeks. Ask your phsiotherapist to stick tape on the affected side of your face to stretch the muscles, by using this tape technique our facial expression can improve eventually. This technique helped me a lot to improve my facial expression.
Hello, 33 days ago i had bell palsy,my upper side start to recover but my lips and cheeks does not even react. And now i am having physicsl therapy, should i stop what do you think?

Hello, you can find exercises for UCS in my other video about forward head posture: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qR6VUPAw01s.html Usually head protraction is accompanied by flat cervical spine, which in turn is conducive to disc herniations. However, it is worth discussing the exercises that I show there with your doctor and physiotherapist - remember that Dr Google doesn't exist :) Have a great day!
First of all, try to stay calm, because most cases of Bell's Palsy heal completely within a few weeks. Remember not to cool your head and neck - if you live in a cold climate, wear a hat and a scarf. If you already see that the movements of the paralyzed part of the face are coming back - as I mention in the video, you can start doing the exercises. Be careful not to overwork your muscles. Of course, follow your doctor's instructions, if your doctor has prescribed any medications for you, you should take them. I keep my fingers crossed for you!
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraid First of all, thank you for your valuable advice. After that, I am doing this exercise that you posted. But I want to ask you a question I live in a cold and frosty place and it doesn't affect me, thanks
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraid I will follow your exercise and I also went to a doctor and took the medicine prednisolone 5mg (taken three times a day) and Vilcivir 400mg (taken only once at night)
It's almost 22 days of my Bells Palsy, I'm recovering very slowly. I continued therapy for 11 days, then my doctor suggested me to watch RU-vid videos of bells palsy and do the exercises at home. My eye side, upper and lower lips side (When I say E) and my nose side (when I am in the position of bad smell) is not much improving, Please recommend me which exercise can heal my those areas completely.
Hello. I know that 3 weeks seems a long time for you, but it's really just the beginning of recovery time in Bell's palsy. It usually starts to improve in 2 weeks but may take 3 to even 6 months to return to normal. Although it's very difficult, you just have to be patient. At this stage it is very important that any movement of the paralyzed muscle begins to occur. If you see at least minimal movement, that's great news. This means that the impulses are correctly transmitted to the muscle. You don't have to make a complete move like on the non-affected side - a minimal muscle twitch will be a reason to be satisfied at this stage. If you want the exercises to be individually tailored to your condition - consult a physiotherapist in your area. From what you describe, exercises should focus on the muscles surrounding the mouth, in particular those that lift the corners of the mouth to the side and up (smiling face, grinning - especially the upper jaw, pronouncing sounds like EEE, SSS). It will also be helpful to practice sounds in which the tongue rests on the upper palate, such as LLL). Pay attention to the symmetry of the face when practicing and help the affected side achieve symmetry with the help of the hand. And as I mention in the video, don't overload your muscles. I am keeping my fingers crossed for your recovery!
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraidtrue I'm having Bell's palsy more than 10 months,I recovered but not yet my left eye isn't huge like the other one and the lip isn't moving like the other one 🥲 +My left ear is paining also if there's too much noise or sometimes without noise;)

Hello, you should see at least minimal movement of the muscle (in every exercise). For example, if you are doing a smiling face and you see that the corner of the mouth on the affected side is slightly raising, you can safely exercise, because it means that the nerve pathway is open. If you are not sure whether there is minimal movement, you can stabilize the non-injured side and then try. However, we perform the exercises without stabilizing the healthy side.
I have 17yrs I got facial paralysis a year ago, I took all the antibiotics, but I can still see a slight asymmetry on my face... if anyone knows how to help I would be grateful
Does Bell's Palsy affects some part of your head or brain? Like it feels like it's banging some part of it. How did you overcome it or trear it? And how did you overcome Bell's Palsy?
I've had mine for over 9 years now and NOTHING has worked or helped me. I'm finally going in for Botox next month. If that doesn't help, then surgery is next.
@@sedepienyu8617 I also can't raise my eyebrows and smile perfectly, but I train every day and compress my face with a warm towel. I hope you get better soon :)
I have bell parlsy since 14 February this year, I have been in Physiotherapy but my lips are not holding tight and speech is not clear with difficulty pronouncing letter P and F. What can I do?
Hi I've been progressing very, very slowly for the past 6 weeks, I only move minimally when I laugh and recently my eyebrows have also moved a bit... how about you?
@@smaks7981 my eyebrow also moves about half its normal way, it was the first part of the face to move. I also have a slight movement in my cheek, but lips are still inactive
Hello, in first week rather not, because muscle contraction function usually does not return at this time. Typically, the first signs of return of function are seen in the 2nd week. You can check this by stabilizing the non-affected part of the face to see if movement occurs on the affected side. Then you have the green light to exercise. From my experience, Patients who start exercising too quickly and too intensely have a greater tendency to develop synkinesis.
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraid Thank you much Better for me to stop for now because I already tried since day 5. This is my 9th. I already finished taking up steroids for 3 days 3x a day. Now Im just taking up aspirin 81 and B12. Is it ok to do hot compress or better to start on 2nd week? Now my face feel numb.
@@Conqueror00001Hot compresses has nothing to do with exercises, you can do it, sure. As for exercises, we start them when we see at least minimal muscle contraction. This means that if you do not see any reaction on the affected side when you try to perform a given movement, wait and try it the next day. And so on until you notice that the muscles contract slightly. Then you can start exercising in series, with larger numbers of repetitions. Why is it like that? because there is no point in sending information from the brain to the muscle if the nerve path is completely "impassable" (there is no contraction). Only when minimal contraction occurs does it make sense to help and facilitate a given movement.
