Belmont Park San Diego Vlog September 2024 - Riding The Giant Dipper! 

When I was a kid in the 1970's I used to go to Belmont Park, just before it closed down. It was pretty run down, but had the typical amusement park flat rides (i.e. Scrambler, Himalaya, Octopus, etc.), the Giant Dipper coaster, and a dark ride. The dark ride was a spook house aka ghost train. When it shut down the coaster was on the verge of being torn down, but luckily a group formed to save and restore it. Most of what now exists at Belmont Park is basically new, except for the coaster and The Plunge pool (although that has been totally renovated and looks nothing like it originally did).

I love the Giant Dipper ... its one of those coasters that is so much fun while your back is realigned/adjusted and cheaper than a chiropractor!

My family and I were at California in April and we went to San Diego for 5 days staying at the Bahia not far from the park. An amazing holiday, love the west coast. Hope you’s are having a blast.

I actually visited that park 8 years ago when I was in San Diego for a business trip. Very nice boardwalk park! Just amazing views from the park. Nothing like a southern California sunset!

I went to this park back in 2000. I didn’t ride the coaster. Not sure why. I remember the beach being VERY dirty. I wondered how would you guys would compare the coaster in Santa Cruz. I’m really enjoying your California vlogs. As a Cali citizen, it’s nice to know the state is showing you guys a good time. I thought about you guys last night. Seeing how you plan these trips, and talk about future parks during a vlog, one could plan to go to a park on the same day and probably run into you guys. That would be cool! Looking forward to the rest of your Cali vlogs!

Hope you guys enjoyed San Diego!! I lived there for two years while I was in college but moved away a few months ago for work. I always used to go down to Mission Beach to study or enjoy the views and to Pacific Beach for the nightlife. I really miss it!!

I rode The Giant Dipper twice. Once in the back and then once in the front. That is a front row coaster. Good old Roller Coaster.

Fantastic vlog, Shawn. This, to me, is what it's all about - a great location by the sea and a classic coaster. Sounds like the Giant Dipper could ride better, but it really does look the part with all those lights.

It's so interesting how the California coast has two similar wooden coasters, both named Giant Dipper, both white with red tracking, both by the beach, and only 1 year apart in age. It's hard to remember which is which 😂

So this coaster , and at Santa Cruz were built by the same people there used to be a third one on the beach in San Francisco at a place called Playland that is long gone

There's also Sesame Place San Diego down in Chula Vista. It's a newer amusement park. It used to be a water💧park. 1st under the name Knott's Soak City, then changed to Aquatica. Glad you're enjoying your trip in San Diego

As a kid in the 60s we stayed at the bajia hotel in mission bay across the street from the coaster. I was 7 they wouldn't let me go on

Welcome back Shawn Actually, 9 years ago the wrist band price was the same with One difference, in the afternoon you could purchase one for half price, which was why you and the boys got one for $22. They don't offer that option now. I believe the VR attractions are gone as well, not sure though, it's been awhile since I've been down there. Should you visit us again in the future I must recommend "La Hinas" as a dinner spot. It's located a mile or so further up Mission Blvd with a deck right on the beach. It's at Pacific Beach and the coaster is Mission Beach. PB Is the real night spot, awesome beach vibe you and Charlotte would enjoy I believe.

If you consider dollar inflation (average 2.96% per year) the inital cost of $150,000 for building the Giant Dipper in 1925 equivalates to just under $2.7 million in 2024 👍

Some history Belmont has coaster long beach had coaster and Santa Monica had a coaster. Pikes peak In long Beach pikes peak was old also and in little rascals playing hockey u can see on RU-vid, I thought it was in coney island but I was wrong , at the end of it's a mad mad world you sre Santa Monica coaster at end of movie , they tore l down pier and ruins were in ocean for a long time till they built pacific park

Belmont Park is a very nice looking boardwalk park, I love the overall atmosphere of it! 🏖️🎢♥️♥️💛💛🩵🩵💜💜😎😎😎😁😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Maybe for a future vlog, you can visit Paultons Park and check out the construction of the upcoming Ghostly Manor attraction.
