That's awesome, being that quiet. They could have made a pulley with a bearing to let you use the post, so you can still use the cover. Other than that, it's great.

Very cool, I have never seen one of these (or I don't remember them!). Kind of sucks that is exposes everything so much but for a carpet off road track this would be super nice! I sounds very nice running down the road!

When I bought this kit belt drive transmissions were just starting to be used. I recall the Schumacher Cougar using belts inside the transmission. I never did use this off road or it probably wouldn't have lasted long. In this video I am actually running this set up. You can see it if look closely. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nuiODphK-jg.html

very cool, hyper drive works well on very light weight pan cars, when used on 1/10 scale offroad with more powerfull motors the belt needs a idler tension pulley added to keep tension on the belt so slippage doesnt occur, if you yank the motor back tight enough without a idler pulley the motor shaft bearings get hot, worse with stock class bushings. the rc company shumacher used similar drive systems on there offroad rc cars also.

Yeah they were great conversions, I bought a set for my lazer ZX back in 1987 when I was stationed in Okinawa. I ran off road mostly so didn’t have an issue with dirt since I had a gear cover. When I ran my lazer on road, it was so quite compared to everyone else…the great days of rc those were. I hope you can find belts for that.

I still have belts for the system and they are surprisingly still flexible. Currently I'm running the standard gears since I run on dirt. It's definitely a neat system, but it never really caught on. It was very quiet!

Nice conversion, sounds smooth and silent

Thanks! It is very smooth, just not very good for a dirt track. Thanks for the comment.

@@arkyrc Maybe someone can make a custom gear cover? Perhaps one of the companies who make replica bodies?

@@rc-fannl7364 With the smaller belt drive "gear" installed the original gear cover might work if the shaft / pin was relocated on the motor plate out of the belts way. A new hole could then be drilled in the gear cover to make it work. The larger belt drive "gear" extends out past the motor plate so the original gear cover would not work at all. I've never actually ran the larger "gear" drive. The gear ratio would be pretty low. Honestly, as old as the set-up is I will probably never run it again. It is a cool relic though!

Very cool to see this and hear the difference 😂 Kyosho gearboxes always whine in high pitch and this was very silent. And i remember those ads for hyperdrive in Rc car action 😊👍 I changed my ultima to a A&L transmission and my friend use a Triump transmission. Both are belt and works really good. Hop-ups are the most funn😀👍

Thanks! It's so smooth with this setup. Belts were the in thing for a while. Hyper Drive had some very cool conversions kits. I also recall seeing some other very small companies producing belt drive transmissions. I miss those days!

Think it was Exoxaged who had one of these systems in a Dbxl. Makes a gorgeous sound compared to metal on metal
