I needed a new 2 meter antenna for my truck and when I went to Hamvention this spring and I kept seeing the Comet CA-2X4SR on a lot of vehicles in the parking lot. I figured if it was what everyone else had I couldn't go wrong. It's pretty sturdy as well. After hitting two birds with it and it didn't break.
This helped me make up my mind on the Diamond K9000 motorized antenna mount. Right now I have a Diamond NR770HNMO on the roof rack of my RAV4. It's a nice antenna -- but it's a pain having to jump out of my ride just to fold it down in order to make it under those drive thru covers.
Lets play a ham radio drinking game every time Mike says "slick" you take a shot, every time he says "neat" you chug a beer? Whomever is left standing at the end of the video wins a slick prize!
I always think my mobile setups could be way better than what I do with them, until I see some other setups😂. It’s always cool to see what others do and take new ideas to see if it works.
No it wasn't a Chameleon. I think it was more like this Alpha Antenna. There's more than one manufacture of this type though. alphaantenna.com/product/military-aviation-commercial-antennas/military-hf-antenna-system-portable/
Mike, I have similar play with my K400 mount. I torque it up regularly with the allen key, but the mount itself is what wiggles a bit on the trunk lip. But fwiw the mount is cheap, easy to install and effective at supporting hamsticks at highway speeds and a 17' whip stationary. Some of those big base coils were interesting. I would love to find a 3/8"-24 coil to go under my CHA SS-17 when on the k400. 73 DE N1CCC
Also, ever since seeing your ATAS review, I'm kicking myself for not going that route. It looks so perfect, but I already got the MAT-30 for my 891, and i know it'd just gather dust if the antenna did all the work 😂
@@hamradiotube I've looked into that i know they have a coil designed for their 213" whip the "sporty forty ", but they are sold out. Do you know whether the Silver Bullet 1000 or the smaller silver bullet might be a viable option for the 17' chameleon whip? Or are they designed more for a shorter element?
I have no idea, but he hasn't actually connected anything yet. It's just a decoration on his car right now. The poor little guy just has antenna issues, what can I say. First the DX Commander not being built, and now this.
