Music video by Ben Folds Five performing Philosophy (from Sessions at West 54th). (C) 2001 Epic Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment vevo.ly/3LYPkl
So when I saw him in St louis back in 2009 he played this song. when it came to the crashing sound after Rhapsody in Blue he pretty much body slammed the keyboard - to the extent that a new piano was rolled out afterwards. it was one of the most incredible things I'd ever seen.
Seen BF5 5 times in the UK….fabulous band, everyone in the audience knew every word. One gig, the new album had only dropped 3 days before the gig, we all learned every word! Splendid songs and musicians. Makes me emotional now, takes me right back there 💛🙋🏽♀️👍🏽
I've never known Ben Folds much, but I gotta say, the bass playing and that fuzz tone from Robert Sledge has been my gateway. I've been listening to the first album on repeat today.
have you heard The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner? it fizzles out by the later-half, but the first half-dozen songs are really, really good
Was absolutely obsessed with this guy in HS and college- saw Ben live many times. So fun to come back and watch these videos. No one else sounds like BFF!
Let's find ways to have fun, heal the world, and make friendships. We need to do that safely. They say power in numbers but it starts within. Slow down and Amp up
Holy Crap, i haven't heard this in a while. These guys are freaking killing it!! I miss that fact that everything during the 90's turned into a fierce rock explosion.
Its amazing. Fan from the start but still love listening. His piano skills are old school amazing. Song so relevant for these times. Every album loved and cherished.
I saw him once perform a solo acoustic version Wham's! Careless Whisper. I never realized how awesome that song was, till he started banging it out on the piano!
I heard these guys for the first time at edgefest in Dallas in like 97 or something. I was tripping balls and it was amazing I’ll never forget it. Don’t do drugs kids
I got to see Ben Folds a few years ago. Absolutely well spent. And had the very surreal moment of a hall full of white people singing B*tches Ain't S*it which is right up there with favourite crazy moments from live performances. He rocks so hard, which is unexpected when there's a piano on stage. I came away feeling my sox had absolutely been rocked off.
They disbanded in 1999 or 2000 I think, then Ben went on to do his own music (which I highly recommend listening to). I haven't found any band similar to them really. It's such a shame.
Like...I can play, but I swear I would sell my right hand to be able to play like this. Wait...umm...never mind. Still, though, I'm lefthanded, so it's not the WORST trade I could make.
How come no one has reacted this one yet (incl. the album version and this and many fantastic live versions)?? This is as epic or perhaps a little better than top tracks by Nirvana, Alanis Morrissette, Beck, etc. from the same era!
God he is so feckin YOUNG in this!! I was turned onto him around this time I suppose by a BBC appearance, it wasn't this, was angry dwarves. 21 years ago, Jesus H Folds. EDIT: Was probably MORE than 21 years ago. Aarrrrrrrggghhh!!!
OutToLunch they have backing Tracks for piano recordings. They maybe on the RU-vid, too. Good luck on playing that thing. You’ll need a fire extinguisher to put your fingers out at the end of the song! I saw a few years ago someone posted a 3 part tutorial on how to play the song.
Love this song and it must be hard to perform live -- they're all amazing musicians but the way the tempo varies and there's a few moments where they're out of sync. Still an amazing performance though.
