You can find this on the Ben Harper Pleasure + Pain DVD by Danny Clinch released in 2002. And yeah this is a beautiful version by Ben. Soul music is is rarely done in such a convincing manner today as some artists seem to be singing only for their own glory, but this song comes straight from the heart. Gives me goosebumps.
God, the goosebumps!! Makes you wanna go do something nice for someone doesn't it? Thanks Ben, you help remind us to show a little human kindness. Still got goosebumps!! xo
Since I first heard that song I cannot go through my weeks without listen to this wonderful piece of music at least once. So deep, so profound, so moving. It is to me so wonderful to see some real music is still going on in these years. Long live soulful music !
JP P I believe it’s him asking god to make space in heaven for his father who lost his way. Then took his own life. I absolutely love this song. It give me chills down my spine.
thanks bro. seriously this music is so touching. They are so into it, its beautiful, musicians who feel the music. I love it and love everyone who watches it.
ben always puts a lot into his singing, but he cranks it up a notch when he sings higher like this instead of more mellow and lower like on the album version of this song. gotta love it
i love this song and love the blind boys of alabama singing it. they are just something else, so heartful. i have been blessed to see them 3 times in my life. does anyone know where i can get the lyrics and chords for this song 'give a man a home'? thx j
powerful, moving...check the blind boys of alabamas "spirit of the century" cd they cover this song on it, however I'm not sure how it compares to this recording...
@bau06047645 hey dude, this is on the bonus features of his dvd "pleasure and pain" but this exact version isnt on cd :( i looked everywhere, best of cownloadin it from youtube. theres mp3 to youtube converter programs on google.
@jor99912 that was a strange comment. I'm not sure where you're point of view is coming from, but thankfully the Blind Boys could see a little deeper to Ben's heart, and not get hung up on his skin (which seems to offend you so much). Maybe you didn't hear the words they were singing.
@vicky22376 You are entitled to your opinion as am I. Who's jealous? Carol King wrote and sang Natural Woman, which Aretha Franklin sang, and Mary J Blige also covered. Who's version was the best? Just b'cos he wrote the song, doesn't mean he was talented enough to give it the justice it deserved. The Blind Boys made that song, for me. You are entitled to think otherwise. It won't change my mind. THEY gave the song the life it needed, whilst he almost strangled it, in my opinion.
Ben Harper spoils this song for me. It's amazing what passes for singing these days... -___-. Blind Boys make this song. Beautiful performance from them.
Were They singing (GOD DON'T LIKE "UGLY".??? No I didn't listen to it at first! Now I hear My Beautiful Blind Boys "SINGING" Heavenly, and some "CREEP" that some TIN CAN ears thinks sounds like SAM COOKE that sounds to me like somebody's Jamming a CORK up his Rear,
so you think a voice needs to be precise and clean to be a good voice?well, that's exaclty what they do at shows like american idol,x factor e.t.c that's why none of those singers ever become a big muscic star.it's not about singing well but about what people feel when they hear your voice.does joe cocker have a great, clean singing voice?no?neither did james brown and many others. now go watch x factor
