Agreed. It's interesting how most people recognize him from Seinfeld, even though he had more screen time and involvement in King of Queens. I guess Seinfeld was just had more viewership overall
Its very sweet to see him in his mothers arms & his dad playing along as a pushy parent!!! It was to make us laugh, but now that their gone, its a memory we get to share! God bless the Stillers!!! Rest in peace jerry & anne!
Look, like all of you, I'm sad Jerry is gone. But the man was 92 years old. He has had a fantastic career that has spanned decades. He got a chance to work with his lovely wife for decades with a successful act, and he got to see his son become a very successful writer, director, actor. He has many beloved characters, and he has lived a long, and full life. If only we can be so lucky. Rest in peace Jerry.
Very well said brother. Thank you for that. I grew up watching Jerry, in Seinfeld, and King Of Queens. He was my favorite in both shows. Rest in peace Mr. Stiller. Thank you for all the laughs.
Jerry once said that playing in sitcoms is what prevented him from getting Alzheimer's. This is actually a very important life lesson-remain productive and active in any way and you'll very likely get to live a long life.
"The duo had their own 1986 TV sitcom, The Stiller and Meara Show, in which Stiller played the deputy mayor of New York City and Meara portrayed his wife, a TV commercial actress."
This is so sweet. You can feel the love they had for each other. My heart breaks for Ben, having lost my own father 2 years ago. It’s so hard when you loss the funniest and sweetest man you’ve ever know. My thoughts are with the whole Stiller family. And especially Anne, Amy, & Ben. Jerry was like my grandfather on tv growing up, and he will be so very missed. ❤️❤️❤️
Whenever someone dies, I always remember the quote from Keannu Reeves. Stephen Colbert tried to corner him on his show and asked him "What do think happens after we die?" Keannu replied he didn't know, but he was sure that his family and friends would miss him. So at this time I feel sorry for Ben. I lost my mom several years ago. She had cancer and we knew she would go. Everyone dies. But when it does actually happen, it is never easy. Hope Ben and all his family are well. Take care.
It's not sad, he lived past 90. That's a triumph. Died of natural causes. Did what he loved doing and was in the top 5% in his industry. That's best case scenario for the average person. His passing is good and celebratory news.
Jerry could make a ten year old laugh, a thirty year old, and a 90 year old all in the same room. The man was amazing.. He was hilarious and I'm happy he got to go see his wife again, they really loved each other ❤️🙂
I was binge watching Seinfeld during quarantine and just yesterday looked up how old he was. Woke up the next morning to hear the terrible news. Serenity now and forever for Jerry Stiller.
OMG Almost the exact same thing happened to me! I remembered KoQ recently (seen the show soo many times over the years) and then thought I'd google to see if Jerry is actually still alive and if so, what he does today. That was like a 2 weeks ago. A week later, after googling him to see if he was still alive and how he looked today, I suddenly read he just died.. I felt like.. wtf.. and got a shiver.
Jerry died? "That's perverse" "Did you know when I was 18, I had a sssssssssssilver dollar collection?!!" RIP Jerry, I loved you so much. Glad you lived a long and hopefully happy life
I was thinking he could have grown the signature facial hair and played Frank Zappa back then. The voice would have been a bit of a challenge, though. And the guitar playing.
His hand gestures are legendary. RIP Sir Jerry Stiller. You've blessed viewers with the greatest yelling humour to ever grace the entertainment industry.
I was sad yesterday when I heard about his passing and teared up a couple of times thinking about him as my favorite character, Arthur Spooner. Then I decided to watch an episode of King of Queens and he immediately made me laugh and put me in a better mood. That's how I'll remember him.
Huh... I love this man he tickles the ish out of me. How did I not know he passed that just shows when working so much life just passes you by. Love him Rip youngman what a gem.
I didn't know Ben directed The Cable Guy. I was a kid so I only knew the movie from years later when I saw Jim on the cover and bought it for cheap. I know it was a bomb but I love that movie. Of course RIP Jerry.
Always funny to look back at appearances like this, where someone is promoting a new movie that becomes a smash/classic. No one had seen it yet, so the audience response is flat. Robin Williams had several appearances like that on Carson.
@Vee Cee true, i saw it when it was released in sweden at the theaters, i was only 11 back then didn't get the jokes and thought it wasn't as good as the pet detective, but damn it has aged well, i mean the pet detective is just ridiculous today.
This is special - seeing the late greats Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller, with their son. Very special - thank you for posting. So many laughs, for generations. Rest in Peace, Anne and Jerry.
"I used to tell people, Frank didn't i use to talk about his hands?" "who the hell did you ever mention his hands to ?" "I mentioned his hands to plenty of people!" "YOU NEVER MENTIONED IT TO ME!"
Doug and Carry, Doug and Carry, Doug and Carry. ARTHUR, ARTHUR. ARTHUR, ARTHUR!! - loved him so much in King of Queens his character becomes my alter ego at times.
I love Jerry, I love Frank and I still cannot fathom he is no longer with us; however, he and the characters to which he gave life will always be here with us in our minds and hearts. He will forever be missed. It’s mind blowing to me that this interview took place at a time when I didn’t even exist. He, his sensational humour, his characters transcend time and generations. Serenity now!
Always loved watching Jerry in Seinfeld and King of Queens. He was perfect in those roles, and a comedic genius. Rest In Peace, good sir. Thanks for the laughs
I'm kinda new to "old" Late Night material, but I cannot believe how good this is. Like even some of the stuff they do today that's very good, it doesn't even come close to being as natural as this was. Absolutely amazing.
Now, this is a loss that has hit me pretty hard. I've grown up watching King of Queens and to this day it's still my go-to show when I need a laugh or to be cheered up. Arthur Spooner is my favourite character so Jerry has brought me so much joy and comfort over the years and will continue to do so. I've also always sensed this really warm vibe about him that makes me think he was a very kind person in real life. May he rest in peace.
I knew Jerry from King of Queens watching when I was like 6, he was such a crazy old man, not really anywhere else but it stuck out to me how incredible he played the role that I almost felt like that was him daily in real life. Now, 24 years later and i see this clip and it sounds weird but at 8:20 of the video when Jerry goes from character to...who he actually is... I started tearing up uncontrollably. In like a single sentence, gone was the character of the yelling crazy old man who was off his rocker - and instead I saw a loving father, who would do anything for his kids happiness and could not be more proud. For the first time I saw Jerry Stiller and not Arthur. Thank you so much for the memories you gave us all, and the happiness you made us 90's kids feel at such a young age.
RIP Arthur... on behalf of the King of Queens community: Doug and Carrie Doug and Carrie, Doug and Car-rie, Doug and Car-rie.. Arthur Arthur Arthur Arthur Arthur Arthur Arthur Arthur ❤😭🙏
I can't imagine what Ben is going through, prayers go out to him and his family, rest in peace Jerry you may be gone but you're never forgotten and your legacy will live on all thanks to your son Ben
The only thing that was planned was probably the idea for the bit. From there on they just went with it. They're all terrific improvisers. Anne Meara also had some great ad-libs even though she was only on screen for like 30 seconds
Who wouldve ever thought while watching this that Jerry would have lived another 24 years. Very sad to see him go but he lived a long and good life and made us all laugh our asses off. Frank Costanza and Arthur Spooner were 2 of the greatest characters of my childhood. RIP MR. Stiller.
This is true. We were at a job when this psych patient jumped in the outdoor pool to get away, mind you in the middle of winter. Every time he answered a question he yelled at me. I said to him Jason you remind me of Frank Constanza, he yelled back "Serenity now" after that we got along great. It was hilarious.
