Relax boat....I used to live with this kid. He's one of the best in the world. Look him up. His name is Ben Marr. I wouldn't suggest following his example because most of you out there can't handle it.
Yes, we're allowed our personal freedom to do what we want when we're comfortable with the environment, but when you're a pro; you're A) an ambassador of our beloved sport and B) an example to be followed. He's 24 or 25 and drinking is fine but unwittlingly or not he's demonstrating to others (I'm thinking impressionable kids here) that drinking and kayaking without a PFD go hand in hand. I'm now living and paddling in China. Every trip I'm an ambassador of the sport. Showboat but do it safe
his skill is countered by his stupidity at the end of the day it's not only putting yourself at risk but more importantly your puttin the paddler behind you in danger too, at the end of the day you dont pull your own body out of a stopper...
Pretty Sure thats the slide on the Mastigouche River in QC. And Ben Marr has to be one of the greatest boaters around these days. He knows what hes doing out there and is confortable in his environment... Doenst justify not wearing a PFD..just like most guys on the Big Joe wave in Montreal as well but thats their choice. Im sure most you guys would not complain about cyclists we see everyday not wearing a helmet on their bike ride to work in the morning but thats another story..
no pfd or proper helmet. no proper upper body clothing and what altitude is he at -Hypothermia Risks. It's an add for bad practice by beginners to white water kayaking. I have some 15 years Sea Surf and White Water Kayaking under my belt. Aidan Coakley
First off, the meat of this rapid is a slide, in which case a pfd really doesn't do anything for you. No point in having something to make you float if there isn't enough water to float in. Secondly, he is Ben Marr. You know, the guy who won both second place and first place for best trick in the Rider of the Year II awards? HE DON"T NEED NO STINKIN' PFD!!!!!
