A scheduled visit to the Isle of Mull didn't quite go to plan as we missed the settled weather and were treated to a wild day. The up/down walk from Dhiseig was straightforward although pretty miserable. Maybe next time...
Better luck next time with the weather, Charlie 🤞. Great that you both have pulled yourself up to the summit to Ben More despite the bad weather. Great attitude! Cheers Wolfgang
Wow Charlie, Isle of Mull…. Two friends of mine spent some time there. They loved it, camped there by the shore near where you first started the video. They walked, hiked same area. So very beautiful even in the low clouds, rain and fog. You look warm though. 6 trips and not yet seen the view… my goodness, you are due my friend. Another interesting video Charlie…. I’ve never set foot on this soil yet. Thanks for sharing my friend. Take care, God Bless. 👌🤗❤️ LilliStJohn 🇨🇦
Hi Lilli, Mull is a stunning island and well worth a visit but I've never been fortunate with the weather. The ferry trip is only an hour and it's like stepping into a different world when you arrive... just magic. Take care, Charlie
Hi Andrew, Once the ferry is booked and it's been arranged for a week ahead of going you've just got to get on with it 🤣I hope you get stunning weather in Sept and these low pressure weather fronts are well away by then. Cheers
Hi Charlie, It sounds like your unlucky hill with no good views on each visit, I got caught in the heavy on Tuesday in the Pentlands a great test for my new jacket which past with flying colours, I have Arran down as my first island visit as the mountains look amazing, you have been busy lately on the mountains! Kind regards Mark Shaw.
Hi Mark, I how your new jacket stays dry throughout the season as that will mean the weather has been great. Have a super Arran visit... the isle just have a bit of magic to them. Cheers
Hi Davie, The ferry is always in your mind when choosing a day visit but the summer timetable is has a good spread a d booking is always advisable oversize you could be left high and dry. Cheers
What a pity, we knew this glorious spell of lovely weather would sadly come to an end. Let’s console ourselves with the fact that we need the water to fill up the exceedingly low reservoirs. Did the same hill in the same conditions….. Six times? I’d give up on ever getting a view if I were you. Cheers Charlie.
Hi Timothy, We're certainly needing the water but another day in the sun would have been nice 🤣 We knew what was coming for yesterday's walk but once the ferry is booked we just had to go for it... Cheers
@@charliemccartney7055 100% Charlie yous were there just your luck sometimes with scottish weather aint it 🥹 im off for a summer solstice hike up Bidean then hopefully across the cmd arête tomorrow before heading back to fife done both before also seen you guys vlogs of both keep up the great channel 📺 👌
Jacqueline, A big part of the walk are the sounds and you gain a better understanding of the conditions. I'm not a big fan of music and certainly think the natural sound good or bad is much better. 👍 Cheers
@charliemccartney7055 Thanks Charlie. I'll never walk up those hills again and really do appreciate your videos. Just being with nature and hearing it. The only time I heard a cuckoo was on Skye when I was stumbling down and fecked. I went to have a look and of course saw nothing. That's the way and as it should be.
Was there on Friday night for my first visit to ben more……and got a great view :-). Well done Charlie and mikes. The islanders were saying they badly needed rain so at least there’s a positive. Gordon
Hi Gordon, We saw the weather window wasn't going to be on our side but its always a bit different travelling to the isles for a change. I'll go for an overnight stop next time and open up the window of opportunity. Cheers
Hi Charlie & The Mikes, blimey that was a very driech day indeed. We all have hills like that Charlie, mine in the Lake District is Harter Fell. 4 times I have been up there and the same every time, all I have seen is the inside of a cloud! Haha Thanks for sharing your short trip as always though. Cheers Dave
6 visits and no view! Thats hard to believe Charlie 😂! We were up two weeks ago in glorious but sweaty 26 degrees! The views are amazing 😂😂😂! Brilliant mate! One trip to go?
Hi Paul, You can't win them all but trip out is always enjoyable and a bit different to the norm. I'll go for an overnight stay next time just for a better chance. Cheers
I think I remember you saying youve never had a view from Ben More on the last vid on there. Recently was coming back from Tiree on the ferry and could see the top was clear. I thought “nows your chance Charlie”.
Hi Jonathan, I'll go for an overnight stay next time and extend the opportunity for get it clear. Always nice to have a visit to Mull which is totally different from the norm. Cheers
That's pretty unbelievable to have been on the top 6 times and never get a view. You must feel a bit cursed! It was my first Munro and I didn't see a thing either, but down at the car the weather was beautiful, which made it more frustrating. A good day out anyway and Oban always worth a visit! Best wishes, Murdo
Hi Murdo, Yes, Ben More and I have never been friends 🤣 I'll go for a weekend next time and sneak up on it under the cover of darkness or have a bigger window of opportunity for a clear top. Cheers
The same for me I have never had it clear on top of Ben More lol always cloud and some other hills on mull I have climbed all done in mist so I know that feeling cheers
Aye ye canny win them all Charlie, but to do that one 6 times and never get a view that’s just rotten luck. Good idea just to go up light and do an SAS job on it. Lovely boat journey tho.👍 Look forward to your next adventure Charlie. ATB Frank.
Hi Frank, Once you have all the waterproofs on and are unlikely to change travelling light is the way to go particularly if you're kicking and single cairn. Some water, snack, map, compass, GPS and phone 👍 I might try a night raid next time so it doesn't see me coming 🤣 Cheers
Well done in such horrible conditions Charlie, can’t get beautiful blue skies all the time I suppose. Really enjoy your videos and it’s guys like you, Murray and young Robin Wallace that inspired me initially. I have a wee channel that I’d appreciate some feedback on from someone like yourself it’s called “out of Ayrshire” Anyway, take cere and just keep doing what you’re doing, Steven 😊👍🏴🏴
Hi Steven, Its always the same when you book the ferry ahead of the visit your always hoping the weather plays the game but unfortunately we missed the good stuff by a day... you can't win them all. I've watched your channel for some time now and always enjoy seeing your adventures. I only wish RU-vid was around when I first started as its a great resource for gathering information and reviewing current conditions ahead of a walk. We're all on the learning curve for video editing to create content that the viewer will enjoy and get the right balance that will hold interest without them having the urge to click through. It's all good fun and the important thing is getting out onto whatever target you have for that day.... Take care, Cheers
@@charliemccartney7055 hi Charlie, thanks for that and I’m humbled to learn that you have actually been watching me. I got the bug very late in life but loving every minute of it and whilst I started the videos for my own records and memories to look back on it pleases me that others actually enjoy them and get something from them just as I do from people like yourself and others. Take care 😊👍
6 times without a view is rough. I suspect we all have those bogey hills that refuse to play along. It took me 4 visits to see a view from Ben Lomond. Good effort though chaps. 👍
It doesn’t bode well for a visit. You usually arrange to have brilliant weather, or at least reasonable weather. Hopefully your 7th visit will be the one!
Just after you leave the sky will clear. That seems to be my luck! I reckon your odds are generally pretty good so surely next time it will fall in your favour.
Hi Charlie, Rain on your video.Ben More It's definitely not your day that is walking in the hills, I am sure in the next video it will be cracking the flags 😀 👍
Hi Philip, We were getting used to walking in the sunshine but now back down to earth with a bang. Its all exercise at the end of the day and a lot of fun 🤣 Cheers
