My friend had a horrific encounter with a Grizzlie. He thought he was about to be mauled so he prayed to God that the bear would be a Christian bear. It was then that the bear stopped, put it's paws together and then the bear prayed "Thanks Lord for this meal which I am about to receive"...
I’m so tired of hearing about Covid and cancel culture from him 24/7. JRE used to be an escape from the news now it’s a culture war talking points show
Joe loves a good bear story. 😂 He is fully involved and then has to mimic the sounds a bear would make adds a whole new level of value to the story. Lol, never gets old.
because you never truly stop and think about the reality of that animal. bro its literally a monster. with a nose 14 times stronger than a bloodhound, it has literal red lust vision like a 360 degree camera for miles in every direction due to its nose. Now you factor in it's top running speed of 35mph, body weight in the multi hundreds (very rarely less than 300-400 lbs...some being 900-1100 lbs...can climb ANY tree despite its weight....and has absolutely no throat instinct to mercifully suffocate you to death before simply pinning you down and ripping you to strips until you die
My dad was a fisherman in remote Yakutat Alaska and we have a cabin 50 miles from the nearest town in the middle of the forest. I’ll never forget the only time I saw a mother grizzly bear and her 2 cubs, luckily we were on 4 wheelers but this bear stood on its back legs probably 8 feet’s tall and roared at us as we drove past our 2 4 wheelers getting about 10-15 feet away at the closest point. Nothing compares to these animals in the wild. Truly a monster of an animal but so beautiful to see in the wild if you don’t get to close.
I've had dozens of very close calls with both Brown and black bear. I was probably very close to where you were set netting on the river. It was Raining and blowing i was in full rain gear sitting on the side of the skiff bailing bloody fish water. I had my back to the rain and couldn't hear with the rain beating on my hood. I heard the dog barking and turned to see it chasing the bear away. The tracks in the wet sand were about ten feet away. The other one was at night, again blowing and raining I was running the net and was almost to the end and I kept feeling the net tugging. I'm thinking huge 50 pound king in the net. As I get too the end, I look up with my head lamp and a big bear is ripping fish out of the net. It didn't even look at me. Even with a skiff full of fish I made record time pulling my way back. Iv'e been super lucky with bears but know several who have been killed or mauled.
Hiking in the Colorado Rockies I heard a mountain lion scream about 10 or 12 feet up a rock scarp. I backed out slow and lived to tell about it. By far the most beautiful and terrifying sound I've ever heard
@dropsy Mcloop yeah and if you ever do end up comeing in contact with don't run just back away but always maintain eye contact and you will be fine they are ambush predators
@@johnirish2969 probably not, when you recreate in grizzly country and it’s not familiar to you, there’s a fascination in the information you can Gardner in regards to these animals’ behaviors.
@@johnirish2969 yeah what's awkward is this dipshit still is not getting that read, that Joe is trolling him. You can get personality out of someone who doesn't have one
Heaviest recorded grizzly killed by a hunter in the wild was around 1,200lbs... Bart the Bear a tamed grizzly who appeared in movies weighed 1,779lbs. That's insane.
Listening to all the noises Joe makes in this one makes me already know that there’s gonna be another one of those funny ass edited videos that come from these podcasts😂
I was in the US Army with this dude from Alaska and had a legit bear claw scar across his face and his story was about 1/4 the length of this one and 10xs more interesting.
There was no attack....Did you even listen to the whole fucking video lmao. It was an encounter. I encountered a pitbull yesterday, should I call it a pitbull attack?
@@vitaly6312 yeh man. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be scary to see a bear. But it didn’t attack him, it didn’t even walk right up to him and he’s hunting in the woods where there’s bears it’s not really some shocking story
I have a better bear story than him honestly. I was face to face with a grown bear could have reached out and touched it. And a lot more craziness. Joe!!! Let me on the podcast. You will jizz your pants guaranteed
There’s a stuffed bear in the airport in Smithers BC that was 1012 pounds. Wild story how it was caught as well. Took out 30 head of cattle, some as big as 1500 pounds, over a 3 year span. Took officers three years to capture him and they nearly died in the process.
Except I'd presume that a supposedly well known hunter would know that grizzly bears are not carnivores, they eat fleshy roots, fruits, berries, grasses and a lot of other things that aren't meat, shouldn't someone like this know that? Did he mean that they tend to eat more meat than black bears and just explained it poorly? I have no respect for anything this guy says about animals or hunting now, that's a pretty weird thing to be wrong about
Joe asking for more details to get freaked out with the same energy a creep would ask what clothes a girl's wearing on the phone 😂 Bears and hunting stories is just pure unfiltered JRE
Summary: "a bear that was a grizzly, but could be a bear of color or a dog 🐕 passed by and I got scared my testicles would be ripped off, despite carrying a hand cannon and bear spray".
A neighbor of mine lost his wife in 2020,or 2021. In Saskatchewan, it was a black bear. They owned a cabin far north and were very bear and nature smart. She was outside with her 9 yr old son and sent him in for something, next thing a male black bear was attacking her. Husband had to shoot the bear twice to kill it. Unfortunately she didn't survive her injuries and also left behind a 2 yr old daughter
@@iamnoah_ black bear attacks are more rare and sometimes they do like a bluff charge but when they do attack they want to kill and eat you. Grizzlies usually attack when threatened/startled or their young are nearby.
especially sick, hungry, and people habituated and they are more apt to actually feed on you vs grizzlies tend to attack to eliminate the threat (you) and then move on. that's why there is a saying "if it's black fight back, if it's brown stay down"
@@iamnoah_Yeah, they actually said something must have been wrong with the Bear because it is quite unusual behavior for a black bear. However, to me, a bear is a bear. I'm gonna be scared no matter what color it is
Hiking through the woods in the mountains of Montana is a beautiful and intense experience. Chances are you'll be fine and won't run into an aggressive animal, but knowing there's that chance does something extraordinary to your senses
Especially when the 'appropriate' reaction to a Grizzly vs. a BBear is POLAR opposite. Forgive the unintentional pun, but... yeah. Imagine a common hiker surprised by a Black, and then he whispers: "Don't run, Phil! Make yourself look big, wave your arms and growl!!" 😳😳😳😳😳😳
I grew up in Montana and bears used to run through our yard in Bozeman. Occasionally, they are spotted in town usually on walking and biking trails such as the Galligator Trail. These are usually not grizzlies but I wouldn’t want to startle or anger any adult bear. If you want to learn about bears and you’re in the Bozeman area, visit Montana Grizzly Encounter. They care for a few grizzlies that can’t be released into the wild. You can do a lot to prevent a bear attack and they explain that in their talk.
The story is actually not very interesting. A grizzly bear appeared about 80 yards in front of him when he expected to see an elk. It didn't interact with him in any way.
One thing I rarely hear people mention in bear encounter stories is how unbelievably bad bears in the wild smell. One guy said he shit his pants and it was nothing compared to how bad the bear smelled. He said it’s stink was overwhelming. Plus, shit your pants shit smells WAY worse, because it’s not ready to leave your body yet.
As a female hunter who was lucky enough to be born into a family of very avid outdoorsman, I can honestly say that crossing paths with a grizzly is my worst fear. I don’t have anywhere near the experience as my father or grandfather, and I don’t get to hunt as much as I want to, but I do have more experience than most people I know and I feel so incredibly lucky for that. I have been hunting with my dad and brother and grandpa many many times and the one thing we ALWAYS have on us other than our rifle and sidearm, is bear-spray. And my grandpa will always chastise us if our spray is anywhere other than on our hip in a very accessible place. Never let your guard down in bear country 🐻
13 minutes of suspense and expectation... but the dude only saw a bear and his ego telling the story is bigger than the bear itself. I want my 12 minutes back, please!
First time Joe asks: oh probably 5 or 6 maybe 700 lbs. Second time: at least 7 or 800 lbs. Later on that night: it was 1600 lbs if it was an ounce and it breathed fire and had claws of pure steel..
I went hunting for Bear with my Father and his guide. He used the same guide for many years and he was a family friend too. I’ll never forget the first time I saw a Grizzly Bear in the wild. You’re never armed well enough lol. I’ve only hunted Black Bear in Pennsylvania and out in the northwest states but I’ve seen Grizzlies. Truly a sight that makes you realize where we fit in the food chain. Those were the best trips I’ve ever been on with my Father.
It's cuz we let those f*ckers live despite being too many out there. If we were to hunt them down to exterminate them they won't be that tough. A whole squad of heavily armed people should be good enough. What happens in the woods is 99% of the time a bear would encounter an unarmed human whereas a human always meets a bear that is ready to rip you apart. And the worse part is these suckers keep growing in numbers across all continents to the point you can't fucking go to the woods anymore.
Clearly you havent listen to Joe in the last year...That's all it is, politics and how he's pretending to still be a left winger when he's very much a right winger.
I encountered a huge grizzly with my Grandfather in the northern part of Wyoming we were about 300-400 feet away on a cliff in full camouflage watching this beast of a bear looking and sniffing around in a creek. And all of a sudden he looks in our direction up on the cliff and I mean body pointing directly at us which to me and my grandpa felt like he was staring right at us but we knew it was most likely checking it’s surroundings, examining the cliff whatever. All of a sudden the bear turns it’s head behind him, looks back at us and started SPRINTING towards our direction… we hopped in the Jeep so fast and booked it! We talk about it all the time and have a running joke like “I should’ve left you there” kind of thing 😂 I’ll never forget it
I was dead too. Overdose of annoyance!! “Ughhhhhhhh! 👀” “Oooooohhhhhh” “Aghhhhhhhhh” “Ugghhhhhhh” “Ohhhhhh yeaaaaa” “Yessss yessss YESSSSS” “Don’t stop!!! Right there!!!” “Ughhhhhh!!! I’m about to .com” 🍆💦💦💦 “Ohhhhhhh yeahhhhh” -Joe “I cream my pants thinking about bears” Rogan!!!!!
Living in Alberta, I've been much closer to grizzlies than this, with no weapon and no bear spray. (You don't necessarily plan to encounter them _in town,_ but it happens.) I was always scared but never really felt I was in danger. The cow calling probably makes a big difference though.
I live in Alberta. Encountered a few grizzlies. I know they are dangerous and all but this story of a bear 80 yards away, walking away from you??? Come on dude. I had a grizz come up 40 yards from me on the river bank look over at me and walk off in the opposite direction couldn’t care less. This guy is making them sound like the Baba Yaga haha
Well, they can't cover 80 yds in 2 seconds either, more like 5 seconds if you believe math, that is. Also, Black bears are more docile, but attack far more ppl per capita bc they are more in contact with people. As usual, lots of inaccurate info.
@@trucker-d4161 obviously you weren’t able to complete reading my original message where I added an entire grizz story of my own with far more intense circumstances. Go back and READ, and work your way foreword.
I worked for a guide service as a wrangler for elk hunts, just outside Yellowstone, in the Grand Tetons. One time I was quartering up an elk and Tandy, one of our pack mules, started dancing around all crazy and I went to walk over to see what the impatient bitches problem was.. then I looked in the direction she was looking in and just on top of the hill was a huge Griz sow and three near full grown cubs.. we all looked at each other for a second that felt like forever and then me and the guy I was with started yelling “hey bear fuck off, get your own!” And nothing happened. So we had to act, slowly walking towards them waving our arms and yelling. It takes a great deal to walk towards an animal that every part of you wants to run from. They decided to turn tail and run over the hill, needless to say we both had pistols drawn.. always pay attention to your pack animals and mounts.. Tandy smelled those bears before my dog did. @PowerfulJRE
@@JohnWicksmagazine grizzlies are NOT carnivores so don’t say it if not accurate. And brown /grizzly little distinction … where they’re from and diet main difference. Bottom line is that dude just wasn’t correct
I've had a few encounters with black bears. You can scare them easily stretching out your arms and being loud. 2 encounters while living in Yosemite. one in the kitchen while taking out the trash (someone had left a door open!) and once when i was walking home (lived and worked there). Thankfully i never ever ever encountered a grizzley bear while living and working in Yellowstone , but i did have a literal run - in with a bison. I laugh my butt off about that one , but boy i tell you what , that was a scary moment.
Oh gee thanks yet another comment that tells us to swing your arms in the air, make yourself look big ya ya ya. WE HEARD THIS ALREADY. yours truly, a Albertan
The type of JRE content I love. I love listening to hunters and fishermen tell stories. I've never done either but there's just something so cool about going out there and catching your own meal. Would love to learn the art.
Photographers don't get as close to Grizzlies as hunters do. Photographers work very hard to not disturb the behavior of the animals they're trying to capture footage of.
@@TheHybridHunter307 You clearly have not met many nature photographers... You are in the environment it is hard to escape it... I've had foxes, deer, elk, moose, walk right up to my positions... Bears within 100 meters... I am more fearful of cougars than anything else in the forest...
@@TheHybridHunter307 this is true but not always. Watch a RU-vid video exposed ice grizzlies of the Yukon. Can't get much closer to a grizzly. I'm not saying it's right to do it but it happens
Joe Rogan is just the perfect interviewer. He knows when to just let the the guest talk, but he also knows when to talk and engage in the story to make it more exciting. People can talk shit about his political and other views, but one thing no one can deny is how damn good and perfect he is as a podcast host. Even just the different guests he picks. Jeebus Cripes, I love this man.
That's because he is genuinely interested in hearing these people talk. He behaves completely different with he friends and when he has someone on because they have stories he wants to hear
My son in Boy Scouts was camping over night in bear country. He put away his smellables but made the mistake of putting on Bert’s Bee on his chapped lips right before he went a sleep. He awoke in the middle of the night being straddled by a black bear frozen in fear in his sleeping bag as the bear licked it off his lips. He was known in scouts as the boy who kissed a bear.
He wasn't always rich. Having a background in martial arts aids in being in contact with your primal self, plus he's been hunting for decades now, he is more aware of what an encounter like this would bring out of a person than most of us. He does suck, however, when interviewing artists (non-comedians)
Me and my brother were hiking Mount Yamnuska in Canmore, Alberta and on our way back down from the mountain, we got off the main trail and ended up coming down on a deer trail. I had a funny feeling in my gut so I had some lound music playing on my phone for noise as I didn't have anything else. As we came out of this one brush of trees into an open meadow, I look at this face with pitch black eyes just staring at me and to be honest, I just froze for a good couple of seconds as I couldn't believe that it was a grizzly about 80 ft. away from us. As I snapped back into my senses, i just lowered my gaze and we slowly backed off and as we were backing away, we noticed it was a mama bear with a cub so things could have turned real bad for us if anything went wrong. Definitely one of the scariest and unforgettable experiences of my life
As a 30 year resident of Banff AB, I can confidently say that you were VERY fortunate. I fly fish the Bow River between Banff and Canmore frequently and I’m on constant high alert! Not just listening, but watching for any hint of a bear at my feet. It’s trippy AF out in the bush in dead silence and you hear things or just imagine you hear things…
My friend worked with a guy that was missing an eye and had scaring all around his head from a grizzly bear. He was hiking with his girlfriend and a grizzly went after his girlfriend so he jumped on its back with a knife. He said the knife did nothing, and was just lucky that the bear decided not to kill him. His girlfriend stayed by his side and became his wife, this was in the 70's. Women today would be finding a new man before they reached the bottom of the mountain.
"women today" bro who hurt you? That's a wild generalisation to make. Sending you some good energy, brother - writing off whole groups of people like that isn't good for the soul.
So if a bear is 80 yards away from you, if it runs directly at you at 30 mph, that’s 13 meters per second, so it would take 6 -7 seconds to get to you, not 2 seconds.
Either way you got enough time to get at least 2-3 shots off in a forest where you cant see anything, and you gotta hit the bear in the heart while its charging. Good luck.
I'm not a bear expert but I know for a fact that if an avid hunter who has seen plenty of bears says "it was one of the biggest bears i have ever seen"...it weighed more than 600-700lbs. That is very average for a mature male. The absolute biggest Grizzleys walking around today are 1500lbs or more. If it was one of the largest bears he has seen It was probably at least 1000lbs.
I was thinking this when Joe asked "350? 450?" I was like those are black bear numbers lol grizzlies on average weigh 700-800 pounds. They're known to get up to 1,700 at the massive end. On the other hand, maybe Ben just hasn't seen huge bears. Either way just something I thought about. 700 pounds is still a massive animal. To think that many walk around pushing half a ton running 35mph is absolutely fucked. Incredible animals
I've heard the exact opposite--at least while in Alaska. I was told black bear are much more predatory. When a grizzly attacks a human, it's almost always because they feel threatened and/or surprised. When a black bear attacks a human, it's usually because they are looking for a meal that's easier to catch than a rabbit.
Grizzly are definitely more dangerous but I’ve heard black bears in certain areas ( I think BC) can be quite dangerous too. Some black bears are definitely predators.
@BeatniKkers Duh! Just like all carnivorous wild animals are predatory. But there's spectrum of predation in regards to humans. There's a difference between black bears and grizzly bears.
I grew up hiking in the Appalachian mountains, from the time I could barely walk…used to love it so much that I started going alone when I got older … That is until I encountered a black bear (on the large side for a black) miles from anyone .. Only time in my life I’ve felt that vulnerable, like I could die if something decides on a whim to do the deed. Decided to never go alone again or without protection…and probably wouldn’t be caught dead in Grizzly country…that phobia is just too intense for me now.
I have a long story about being charged by a 9.5’+ mountain griz near moose lake Alaska while hunting many years ago. Massive massive bear and in that valley they are all monsters. Shot him 3 times and he kept charging. Too long story to post here I’ll say this for anyone who has not experienced this. A black bear before bedding down that’s hungry will eat you alive. A Griz will kill you and in some cases wait days to make sure you are dead.
