"The Thanksgiving Song" is from Ben Rector's Christmas album, 'A Ben Rector Christmas,' available now.
When I started putting together the Christmas album, I realized I hadn't ever heard a Thanksgiving song. I feel like everyone has an emotional connection and a lot of memories around Thanksgiving, just like they do Christmas, so I did my best to write a song that honored that. I hope this song captures the magic and nostalgia that we all look forward to at Thanksgiving. I also secretly hope that this becomes the official theme song for Thanksgiving (this is both based on that I think the song is a very good Thanksgiving song and also that it is the only Thanksgiving song).

@SOBRANTE409 😢 I’m so sorry 😢 My sister’s family has totally fallen apart, for 2 years and 1 month. And I’m 400 miles away, and can’t be with her, or my brother. People who have these connections should be *ETERNALLY* grateful. When it’s all gone, it rips your heart out. It’s the saddest thing. 💔 And I’m truly sorry that’s happening to you. 😢

I'm sorry your hurting, but I don't understand it. Until recently, I was estranged from my family. The day of my mother's funeral, I walked away from my family because they were toxic jerks. Never once did I regret that decision. I literally rejoiced on holidays that I didn't have to deal with the negative BS that family gathers always were. Recently, after more than a decade, my brother reached out. Because I had a decade of healing and growing, I have a greater ability to control keep him from being a toxic force in my life. Think for a moment: why did your family implode? Family isn't always a Norman Rockwell painting. When it's not a loving, supportive environment, but rather a disfunctional, toxic force, is it REALLY worth keeping?

A few years ago I was in the hospital over thanksgiving fighting for my life. I was just 17 years old. Ever since thanksgiving has been a hard holiday for me to endure. While i am so grateful for God saving my life, it's hard to get over the how hard it was to be in the ICU for weeks on end. It just must be hurt from the trauma of it all, but this song really helped me when i heard it. People say I'm one of the most grateful people ever, cuz i know God took care of me and continues to do so, but now i can rest in hearing this song knowing the sadness this holiday brings me won't last forever. God will heal the pain in my heart when I think of the little kid I was, spending my holiday alone on thanksgiving and my family sitting in the hospital cafeteria having a donated meal, I don't have to hold onto that hurt anymore. God is redeeming the holiday

I like Thanksgiving over Christmas because of the anticipation. Were right in the middle of the holidays, right before the hustle & bustle & just getting started. My grandfather passed away in September this year. That line about seeing my grandfather in my nephew’s eyes hit like a brick. I have little cousins who look just like him. I remember in 2020 how moving this song was, because it felt like the “longest year.” In early 2022 we lost my dad, so this year has far surpassed it for me. I don’t know what Thanksgiving is going to look like without him. My brain is scrambling to remember every step he took to smoke the turkey, because he’s not here to do it anymore. I’ve been blessed to live 28 years without a broken family, and though it feels broken with this loss, we’ll still fill our house with family and our hearts with gratitude.

Yeah... We lost our mom 4 years ago, then covid in 2020, then we lost my dad in July 2022 from covid... Longest, shortest, saddest, hardest 4.5 years of my life.... I spent this time watching my childhood not just fade but catch fire and the ashes fall at my feet. I'm grateful for the 24 thanksgivings with my mom and 28 thanksgivings with my dad and the future thanksgivings with my 3 kids! Thank you God for my family

Ben...thank you! Tears are streaming down my face because the words to this song sound just if they were spoken from God to your heart. This song touched places within me because Thanksgiving has always been Big in our house and many of my relatives have passed. We had to say farewell to my daddy 2 weeks from my birthday this year and I am a daddy's girl. Also, we buried one of my last 3 Aunts. My grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles always made Thanksgiving so physically pleasing and tasty. This song is amazing and I see my daddy's and mama's smile in my son. God is awesome and funny. Giving thanks should be an American tradition. I give thanks for the profound poetry you bestowed on my ears and eyes. When what I see and hear make me taste and feel, it is transformational. This is such a BEAUTIFUL song. Especially during a pandemic since Thanksgiving will be VERY different for many, many families this year. I was feeling really down today about the upcoming holidays. Thanksgiving is next week and I feel so checked out. My brother sent me this song to listen to, saying it’s a “tear jerker.” I’ve listened to this multiple times and bawled every time.

Thanksgiving. The most underrated of the 3 end of year holidays. Christmas is so heavily commercialized and as excellent as Halloween is, it's on the way to it. This holiday has something at it's core that'll never be commercialized no matter what and its a thing so many lack as well. Now it's will more Thanksgiving songs come out.

We never appreciate our blessings enough and as I age, I find this holiday a perfect time to reflect on God’s goodness and the blessings of family, friends, and mainly God’s mercy. May we learn to count our blessings daily and give thanks to God who provides for them all.

Thank you for this wonderful song... Bring tears to my Eyes... I came from a crazy dysfunctional family but were were still a family we had good holidays until 2019 when a treasured Uncle died and the family couldn't get along without him. Take care of your loved ones and Cherish the times you have together

It's so wonderful to have a song for Thanksgiving ❤️, there are so many songs for Christmas 🎄 and there should be, but it's nice to hear a song for Thanksgiving. Even with the Christmas songs, I wonder how many songs are dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ and how are dedicated to Santa, Frosty, and gift giving and gift getting. I love the songs about being with your family at Christmas time. Those are beautiful.💕💐🕊️✝️👼🎄💖🌹🌹💖 ❄️🌨️❄️🚡🚡⛄ I love this song, it reminds me of my childhood and family Thanksgiving dinner 🍲.
