These young people are not taught proper history in school, I live in Scotland and the only thing we were taught about was Germany invading Poland. No Scottish history (some of us were lucky to learn that from our families) or any other world history, it’s ridiculous. Knowing our history helps prevent us from making the same mistakes over and over.

Reasoned, courteous, logical debate would require (1) a response to his direct question and/or a counterargument containing historical facts and ethical principles attempting to show the analogy was flawed; or (2) a concession that Ben had made a good point. Possibly followed by some other type of argument or claim, hopefully with more evidentiary basis and historical context than the first one. Immediately afterwards, german air forces started targeting civilians. As a German who was born and raised in the United States, I absolutely praise Shapiro for his knowledge, and people like you who know basic facts that German soldiers were not Nazis. My great grandfather was a sergeant in the Luftwaffe, his brother was in the Wehrmact, and another sibling also served in the Wehrmact, but later served the Soviet Union (Willy Reidel).

I’m a 21 year old Canadian man (west coast BC) and I am both proud of myself and disappointed of my generation that I do not think like most of my fellows within my age group. Probably.. -I can't really attest from my own personal experience to generally how moral and rational, or ignorant and delusional their thinking & ideology is, because since I moved cities last year, every single one of my friends that I hang out with in person now are older than me. At least 25, but most are early to mid 30’s and some in their 40’s, and that’s all because of the community that I surround myself with now. My current friends didn’t shape my ideology, I realized the BS of the progressive left as soon as I became interested in understanding politics, which started from my distrust and frustration with Trudeau, so I’m consistently puzzled why other young people my age strayed way off into left field (pun intended) with the “regressive” ideology. My best guess is social conformity, kids my age are parrots, and I find they struggle to put themselves in the shoes of the other side, especially when they’re emotionally worked up. They are often ignorant and they don’t look for impartial answers, they don’t know how to, and where to look for these answers, nor do they ask questions in attempt to understand the facts and the history of concepts that they have so many opinions about. They can’t admit to themselves or others when their feelings or opinions are effectively irrational but not affectively irrational, and don’t know that is normal and okay. Unable to separate emotional thought from rational thought. They are seemingly unable to try and separate their feelings from the reality that benefits our society as a whole and how to weigh the personal cost that their uninformed political outrage detriments their own mental, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing. Seems that many of them struggle to prioritize and regulate how much attention they give to that political emotion. And understandably so, because we’re still kids, we’re freshman in adulthood, many are growing up quickly and as a result are being radicalized at a young age where our emotional, moral, and rational regulation is underdeveloped. So just like how many people everyday are finally waking up to this madness, I hope my generation will follow. There will always be radical crazies, and they’re the loud minority, but I hope my generation will grow up and recover from their social homogeneity contagion and form their own opinions without fear of being canceled by their university peers. Thought I’d just share from my view as a young person and hopefully I could bring hope to at least 1 person, that there are still young people that believe in merit and the principles that make American society the best and most prosperous in the history of the world. I love Canada, I love the United States, I love freedom, and I love truth, even if it hurts sometimes. It started a long time ago. Back when I was in high school, many many many many years ago, I had a very young female history teacher that had recently graduated with her teaching credentials and landed this teaching job. I was a slacker back then but I enjoyed reading history. One day she made a comment about something we had in our textbook and I raised my hand, then questioned her how she knew that her version of history was more accurate than the text book. She said, out loud for all to hear "because it's what she had learned in College". Even at the tender age of 16 I knew we were in trouble if teachers were being taught opinions veiled as facts in College. Unfortunately for her, a few days later she gave us all an assignment where we had to pick a subject of historical significance and give a speech in front of the class about the subject. When my turn came I chose to give a speech on how the teachers knowledge of history was wrong. I spoke for over 20 minutes non-stop. My classmates were stunned because I never showed any interest in any of my other classes and always stayed silent. The teacher was mortified and gave me an F for that exercise and flunked me for the year. That's when I knew education was in trouble and it's gotten worse ever since..

The Geneva Conventions, which provides for the principle of distinction between civilians and combatants were ratified in 1949, after WWII for the very reason to avoid such atrocities to reoccur. Under the political environment now, I picture history lessons as vast plains with countless land mines, and it’s simply impossible to go through. So the lack of proper history lesson is just instructors and education institutions playing safe and not going into land mines.
