the last 5 picks being from australia, europe, canada, overseas basically- really reminds me of outliers- how when ur the big fish in a small pond- it can be better than being a big fish in a big pond. instead of doing years of aau games up and down- these guys get to really be the focus of a team , learn all the skills, practise alot- get specific coaching all of that. kobe said something similar. i mean ben is the best ball handling big we ve seen in 12 years- its no coincindence. on his jr school team he was already like 6'4- but his coach let him do whatever he wanted- he got to play point, guard, whatever- bring the ball up , set plays, finish with his right or left. if he was in the aau- his coach would be making him stick to picking and popping, he d never get to bring the ball up cos there would be some skilled point there already who had that priority. like russell or something. not saying u have a better chance being overseas-but if u got amazing talent already- its better to be in an environment that u can grow in - rather than surrounded by alot of other ballers. its like being an only child as opposed to having 6 brothers. pluses and minuses for both- but u can see the last few years- all the top draft picks coming from non basketball countries, where there aren't many ballers to be honset- whereas in america its a national pasttime. basketball in austrlaia is like the 5th biggest sport here.
