I just want to say something about the this version of Once In A While. In the summer of 2016-17, I used to drive down to St Kilda beach and watch the sunset almost every evening with this on repeat and a lot of times fall asleep in my car to it. During 2016, I was a 24 year old artist working in a Factory and was getting heavily into jazz as I had purchased the 'Swingin' Jazz Favourites' playlist which had this version of Once In A While on it. I was also a drunk at a local jazz bar where I'd go most weekends and get heavily intoxicated and listen to very talented local jazz musicians come into this funky jazz bar and get the whole place dancing by playing lotsa boogie woogie and standards. It was such a great time! This song man... Such a hard time in my life but such a great time to be a young artist. I've since moved away from there and no longer drink (as i took it a bit too far!), but I will always hold a place in my heart for this tune - thanks Ben Webster's At Ease quartet! The soundtrack of a great year in my life...

Here's pure beauty from a golden heart in a troubled frame, a body of immense sensitivity racked with sharp awareness of his position. He went away, to Europe, just to seek himself as a person, but the inner artist never varied, changed, altered. Incorruptible love and longing for better came out, singing Ben's songs and charming the sharing listener.
I have never met Ben since the Apartheid regime wouldn't make that a possibility because of its horrid dispicable laws but as youngsters in the streets and verandas of our homes in Soweto, Webster came to us and made us mull over our lives and what, if freedom were to happen, we could have been. Dreams we had aplenty and although we could not implement them and see to their germination, we had found an avenue and conduit through which they could be toned and let to bloom. The genius in us never abated and the Inventive spirit found an alabaster box in Ben Webster's sax. Today, at about 60 I am digging out the ground to yank out some of the germs for all the world to see and taste. Thanks to Jazz music and Ben's was pivotal and getting deeper in the recesses of my mind to bring them out!
I have never heard this recording before. The mix isn't the best, but Ben Webster plays some awesome blues, and the piano man, plus the whole rhythm section is all the way there. Love it, thanks for posting!
Is this "Hymn To Freedom" the Oscar Peterson composition I wonder? I'm not aware of it having entered the repertoire of other artists... {Thank You - this upload is magical!}.
@@user-xh9rz7rf8l I understand now. Thank you for replying to me. You must be sad that this missing track is damaged on your vinyl. For me, "Sweet Lorraine" - in Mr Webster's hands - is as close to perfect as I'm ever going to hear I think. Most everything he played, of course, was sublime, but his telling of "Sweet Lorraine" lets us hear a REAL master - minimal, gentle and subtle. Gorgeous. Thanks for uploading this quite rare album.
