The Colomares Castle is a monument located in Benalmádena, in the province of Málaga, Spain. Although it is called a "castle," it doesn't have a defensive function and was built between 1987 and 1994 as a tribute to Admiral Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America.
The design of Colomares Castle is eclectic, combining architectural styles such as neo-Romanesque, neo-Gothic, and neo-Mudejar. The monument is dedicated to the memory of Christopher Columbus and his arrival in America, as well as the figure of Queen Isabella the Catholic and her role in sponsoring Columbus's journey.
Within the complex, different spaces can be found, such as the chapel, the crypt, the courtyard, and a small bullring. The chapel houses a reproduction of the shrine of the Virgin of the Pillar from Zaragoza.
Colomares Castle is known for its unique architecture and panoramic location, offering stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding area of Benalmádena. It is a popular tourist attraction and is also used for cultural events and ceremonies.
