Benbulben, Sligo, a mythical landscape of ancient hunting grounds, full of awe, wonder, and legend. On this hike, we were treated cloudy weather that only added to the mysteriousness of this place. I've also added the route we took and a guide. So please, enjoy our journey so please feel free to subscribe and leave comments.
Benbulben was the first mountain in the 8 peak mountain challenge. Join us as we tackle mental health issues and challenge the stigma.

What you say towards the end, about the lost civilisation or the place being like a fortress, i totally agree with you. There is more to this place than meets the eye, and if you consider how many old tombs and passage graves are around this area, it is no surprise, The most under rated county on the west coast, until you go there, and I was there today :)

Yeah, Sligo is a wonderful place to explore. I also enjoyed the Carrowkeel tombs and the place is steeped in ancient history. Where were you in Sligo?

@@MountainMikesAdventures We were at Mullaghmore beach with the kids, and we took a small trip further up the road to Creevykeel tomb, amazing place also. I agree about carrowkeel though, everyone has been to carrowmore, but for me the bricklieve mountains and carrowkeel, with the views of the lakes are one of the most mystical places in ireland. And its a fair walk up to them too, so ya dont meet too many people. My wife thinks I am crazy, but I am obsessed with our land and its history :)

Haha it takes a particular type of crazy but I'm the same love the history and the landscape.

Thank you for doing this video! My fiancé & I explored these mountains 2 years ago. You nailed it with explaining the feeling you get while you are out there; you get the sense that a lot of history happened out there, along with an inexplainable feeling of peace & mental clarity. It’s an incredible feeling. Thank you for helping me reminisce. Love from Arizona 🏜

@MountainMikesAdventures
@MountainMikesAdventures 3 года назад
There are no more wild bore in Ireland, they were hunted to extinction
@HillHyker
@HillHyker 3 года назад
@@MountainMikesAdventures when did the last one become extinct. I did hear of some still running around Kerry? Only a few short weeks ago.🤫

@@HillHyker giving your question I was curious myself when🤔. From a quick search I spotted it was officially declared 2009 which is interesting. Apparently, people set them loose and if they are found they are killed due to the risk to the environment. It appears you've thrown a rabbit hole right underneath me 😅 I need to read up more about it especially those in Kerry you mentioned.

@@MountainMikesAdventures For some strange reasons, it is the official statement, there are no wild boar in Ireland. However in reality, things seem very different. When one is seen, we are told it's a pig and has escaped from a local farm.

Thank you for the like. I've not actually been there since I filmed this so must try and get back up myself. Lockdown had definitely helped to give us more appreciation to get to those places we take for granted.
