Guess who got himself one of these only four days before you posted this video.... Glad I'm in the habit of unplugging EVERYTHING in my garage because we often suffer from having thunderstorms randomly zapping anything plugged in without a seperate surge filter/guard... I do not need or use the laser sights, so that is fine, but i do fancy the rpm counter... I actually had similar troubles with a miter saw from the same store (Biltema) last year. The problems was mechanical, not electrical. Less then a year later they re-relased all their miter saws. Mine had the product number 17-695, and was re-released as 17-6950. The new models was greatly improved and had none of the issues the first ones had. I hope the same evolution will happen to the bench drills, but if this electrical problem is common, then they really should consider a recall or provide repairs...

Yes, I totally agree. I notified the shop where I bought it, so hopefully they will pass on the feedback to someone in charge. I have a new video ready quite soon where I show how I solved the problem :-)

Interesting review. I'm assuming it's a European specific brand because I have never heard of it before. My go-to brand is Ryobi. It is also interesting to point out the dB rating on the box. We don't get that in my country. But my father told me about something similar when he went to Switzerland in 2001. He was referring to vacuum cleanerers and that they are a lot quieter than the ones we get. The wall plug is very neat with the cover. We do have those in my country but mostly as adapters or if you buy a fancy wall plug. You get those plugs usually on hair dryers, vacuums, heat guns, Jigsaws, etc. Usually on dangerous appliances.

Hi again 😊 Biltema is a Swedish retail corporation, you can find stores in Scandinavia and the UK. It's like a downscaled Home Depot, their tools section of the store is somewhat similar to Harbour Freight. Their own branded tools are typically made in China. Very reasonable priced, sometimes the quality is decent, other times not 😏 We tend to have more regulations and rules here in the EU compared to other continents. It's probably a EU regulations saying that the noise level must be displayed on the package for these kind of products 🙂

I wanted to buy this machine, but after seeing your video plus another one about it, I decided to contact Biltema. They claim that they changed supplier, but if something happens, they will replace the machine. Nevertheless, I did not dare to buy it, because it is not acceptable that they are selling such crappy quality at that price, even if the current price should be regarded as "cheap", I am not interested in it because it is not fun to transport it back to them in case this happens with mine as well. Anyway, I bought a twice as expensive Güde and hope it is twice as good also. I don't know yet, since the machine will arrive tomorrow, but specification wise it is definitely better. Also the table is better than the Biltema, Scheppach, Einhell and so on, similar machines.

Thanks for sharing, I can absolutely relate to what you are saying. I am not familiar with the brand 'Güde', but it's probably safer buy. I have lately got noise from the main bearings as well, I have to take it apart to inspect what's going on 😔

Couldn't you do reverse threading by just going clockwise, then turn the piece around after?
@kihestad
@kihestad 5 месяцев назад
Unfortunately, it does not work like that. If you turn a bolt or a nut up side down, the threads are still going the same way. Regardless of that, when threading you need to reverse the directions to remove the tool out of the threaded part.

My man! First I stumbled upon your channel when I was looking for a new kompressor, saw your biltema kompressor enclosure video. Convinced to upgrade one day to the quiet one. Today was strolling in the aisles of the local biltema, and caught my eye on the drill presses. Fell in love with the biggest one and came back home and "I wonder if anyone has reviewed it?". So here we meet again! Good review, thanks! I wonder if the problems with it was related to faulty components/batch or your electric grid. Anyway, I haven't gone through your videos yet to confirm whether you still have this drill press or not, but could you give me your honest opinion if you think this is worth buying, and if you like I would be interested to know what you still think about it, good and bad, what needs to be upgraded/fixed/modified, what broke etc. I was impressed in the store by the fact that the drilling bed was not bending under the load of drilling down on an item, like on the cheaper ones they tend to flex by the pressure of drill pushing down. I dont mind tinkering with it, or upgrading / modifying, and I think the first mod I would do would be a quick release handle, like those in bicycle seat posts, for the height adjustment on that drilling bed locking clamp.

Haha, it seems like we are buying the same stuff 😅 I think Biltema has improved the electronics in later models, I did report the problem and others as well. I have not heard about problems in the last year. I am very satisfied with it! I can't understand how I managed without all the years before I bought it 😝 No issues at all (after fixing the electronics), and it has been through some beating. I recommend buying a good vice for it. I bought the biggest one from JULA, but even that is a bit weak and not very solid. I have managed, but are looking for a better one. With such a big bench drill a quite big vice is needed as well. All in all, I think you will be very happy with the purchase 👍

@@kihestad Great, literally on my way to biltema now. Theres a jula store opening in my city next week, might go there to check out the vise. I guess you mean a machining vise, not a bench vise?
@kihestad
@kihestad 5 месяцев назад
@@Ricqu exactly, those flat ones you put on top of the bench drill bed. To my knowledge Biltema don't have any worth buying.

What kind of response did you get from Biltema, when you mentioned that second drill broke down? I was about to buy now that drill.

This is a while ago now, I reported the issue but my local store did not seem to do anything else than offer me yet another unit. I found a web page and reported it directly to Biltema, I got feedback where they said it was forwarded to their product department. Another viewer has left a comment about it, he had asked about it and believed the problem was solved in newer machines.

I purchased one of these in July 2021 and had it for 4 months thinking that they have fixed this issue, but alas - after 4 months I experienced the same problem. Now both the lazer and speed indicator no longer work. It’s a shame that Biltema can’t be bothered to fix known issues and continue to sell defective products. Now, do I return it for most likely another defective unit, live with it or attempt my own fix….
@kihestad
@kihestad 3 года назад
Really? 😒 Someone else mentioned in a comment that they had confronted Biltema (cant remember if it was online or at their local Biltema store,), and the feedback from Biltema was that the issue was known and it had been improved. I have also sent information to Biltema about it (online), and I got a a reply saying that they appreciated the feedback and transferred it to their product department. Have not heard anything after that. Perhaps you got a early model, or perhaps they have not improve it? Hope you either get a better model, or are able to fix it 😊

I think the wobbeling was unexceptable. Why isn't that commented?

Hi, not sure what you are thinking of. When in the video does it happen? I would say the machine is t very sturdy. When tightening all the screws after adjusting height and bed position it is very rigid. I have not bolted it to my bench though, I have not found the need for it yet.

Ahh man, I was pretty much on my way to buy this when I saw your video.. do you think it has been fixed? Maybe I should stay away from this then.
@kihestad

I really don't know 🥴 I sent a message to Biltema about it, but I think I just got a standard reply: "thank you for contacting us, we will forward your message to our product department". Take a look at older comments, I think someone else mentioned something about it...

They all will burn up, they are to tiny for the job, mine transformer is a 100 degree celsius in a minute, and will burn up if i dont power down, but i like the variomatic system on this macine, and i can fix this problem, but for those who cant fix this, dont buy this machine, there is a high risc for fire, better ventilation will not work, only a bigger transformer, or a diffrent power supply.

I totally agree!!! I notified my local shop about the obvious faulty design, but I doubt it has been reported 'up' in the BILTEMA organization.

Wow, looks like really bad electronics. I was considering something like this, but looks like I’m going for Bosch drill with same features.

Yes, several viewers has commented on this video and told that they have experienced the same problem 😥 Too bad, because mechanically the drill press is quite good for to the price.
