Although I am watching this at least a year since it was made, I find this video helpful. Everyone interested in the bugout has and/or will find this video helpful. Thanks.
The Mini Griptilian felt cheap and disappointing, like waking up on Christmas morning to the giant, cheap, plastic Voltron when you were perfectly clear you wanted the smaller metal Voltron.
Nice review as always. It's a shame Benchmade finds it difficult to center the blades on their knives these days. One thing you didn't mention for the perfectionists. Was the grind symmetrical IE not looking like a half assed chisel grind?
Gotta be honest, I’m only here to hate. This is the most over hyped knife even. I finally folded and bought one. Lowest value knife I ever bought. I’m so happy I sold it. Although thanks to the hype it held its value. So a silver lining I guess.
I've watched a bunch of knife reviews recently (like way too many) to validate my late night drunken impulse purchases, and yours was the first that really made me stop & subscribe because of the quality of the content. :slowpoke: Fine work, AKB
I love my Bugout. Just reviewed it today. I highly recommend it. S30V is a freaking BEAR to sharpen whether it be Benchmade, Spyderco, Zero Tolerance, or any other company that uses S30V
Great Review. I saw a few reviews of this knife now. I still can't decide if I want one. If I bought I could do a review and then keep it in one of the knifebags with all the other knives. And it wouldn't take up a lot of weight like everybody has been very eager to point out. Nah really not in love with this one.
I bought the grey bugout and the adamas at the same time cuz going from one extreme to the other is how I roll I guess. Or I needed to even out my manliness.
I was gonna ask on your next video if you had plans to review this one. Suppose I got my answer. I have been in the market for a Benchmade for no other reason than I don't have one and this may well be it. Super lightweight, seems sturdy enough based on the reviews I have seen so far and to me at least, aesthetically pleasing. Thanks for the Review Knife Bro!
Mine (non 1st production) came scary freakin sharp and also even 8mos later is still perfectly centered also I have no issues sharpening the S30V and actually am highly impressed with benchmades treatment of this steel because of how durable it is and how sharp it will get when really stretching out thee edge yet holds that hair whittling edge quite a while of EDC use!
This is a great knife- and those occasional people here who say- doesn’t look durable or capable of hard use are blind, and have no idea what they’re talking about.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro I could not agree more! I mean it is a BENCHMADE!!! Lol they issued us benchmade autos when we got to Iraq 3 days before the war started and for good reason, their knives are held to higher standards than many other manufacturers and they hold up to tasks beyond their recommended use! I still love my ZT and Spyderco knives but that benchmade knife may have saved my ass more than a few times and I wish I still had it today!
Wow, I'm impressed, Batoning Benchmades too! I like the comparisons to the other folders. Multitrack voice audio. More cussing. Dick jokes. This review has something for everyone! Don't worry, Benchmade should send you a knife for review some day...
+Patrick Richard I packed everything into this one. Glad you noticed me overlapping my dialogue. It was my corporate shills in the boardroom impression
I got to see one of these the other day and I was very impressed. I also scored a Manix 2 lightweight in BD1 and a Paramilitary 2 finally. The Manix really impresses me with the weight to size ratio. I had a G-10 Manix sprint run in CTS-BD30P and I thought it was way too heavy, but this one is great!
Hahahah. “The same old Benchmade you’ve grown to love complaining about”. Actually, that’s why i buy Benchmade, the endless complaining, for hours on end. My wife loves listening to it too. She’s so negative, sometimes, with the whole “why do you buy the damned things then?!” Good video though, good information. I’m looking forward to complain about my very own bugout.
I Just bought the Griptilian with the g10 handles and the Bugout about two weeks ago. When I first held the Bugout I thought this thing can't be very sturdy but I was wrong and it continues to impress me. I almost want to carry it more than my 940-2, almost.
packinaglock I have a 940-1 and I swapped the thumb studs. It’s impossible to not just carry in the back pocket by the wallet as a backup being so slim
I think its a nice knife for the price. Im not sure if i want to buy one yet.but i think that if benchmade actually put in a stainless steel frame inside then i wouldn't mind paying a little more for it.i think it might be better in the long run. Great video by the way. I love it
whipping your knife closed like that makes me cringe sooo much- like every time your about to cut yourself so bad. opening like that sure- but take a second close it properly!!
Check out my new avatar, bro. I was afraid you wouldn't know it was me. But it's me. Really. Who else has this kind of time to devote to such matters? By the way, I'm buying one of these for my son. You should point out that the stud and stand offs don't match quite right.
You mention negative comments often. I know it's done on jest, but you're far better than those folks to give them validation. Best knife and flashlight reviewer(er) on RU-vid
Advanced Knife Bro yeah, when I was 6 my Mom always told me, "the best sense of humor is the self deprecating kind". Then she pushed me back into the coal mining line and told me to dig harder. So there's that.
"Bug Out" knife, or even an in pack "hiking" knife? No 'folder' for me... especially one where the handle scales flex like that. I carry (in pack or on belt) while hiking or if I have to leave in an emergency (hurricane/tornado/flood etc. a.k.a. "Bug Out") a SURVIVE! Knives (brand) 3.5 or 4.1 and or a Bradford Guardian 3 F.F.
+Chambelona59 I don't think the handle flex is as a big of deal as people make it out to be. I get that you don't like it... and other reviewers have brought it up as a potential "issue"... but in all honesty what would you be doing with this knife that I didn't do with it here. I literally beat the piss out of the knife. Also when holding a knife I don't pinch my thumb and forefinger together as I use it. I mean a fixed blade is always recommended for hard use tasks... but what real world evidence have you seen of this knife failing due to handle flex? Has anyone broken it?
This video confirmed to me that this is a perfect EDC knife, emphasis on the edc part. This isn't a camp or outdoors knife, though as you just showed it'll take some abuse if you happen to fall into that .01% chance of something happening and your stuck somewhere in the wild no where near civilization with only a folding knife on you...totally a realistic scenario right. I see no issues with the liner free handle on this knife, when used as a FOLDING POCKET KNIFE. People act like if a folding knife isn't a fixed blade its not good. Get back to reality and realize this will open your mail and boxes and cut plastic more than adequately, and stop complaining that a pocket knife doesnt baton car doors and come out in perfect condition. 98% of people complaining about the plastic scales dont do anything more than open packages and fondle fuck their knives. And besides you just proved that these plastic scales hold up better than a $200 titanium framed knife. Most people dont understand physics very well, so its not their fault for ignorance. But yea $115 is a bit much, but no worse than spydercos prices in 2018 that were raised for no reason. $80 would've been a lot better, but I still took a 120 mile round trip to go buy the only Bugout 535 I could find within a 70mile radius, yes im serious I checked online, all the sites are awaiting new shipments, and same with every single B&M I could find around me, finally found one and it was the last one they had left so I had em set it aside and drove 60miles there next morning. And im completely satisfied with this knife. My favorite for edc so far. Still love the pm2 and manix 2, my other faces but this is so light and pocket friendly for the amazing blade it holds, awesome for real life cutting tasks its such a slicer just like the manix and pm2. If you don't need to cut down trees and stab hoods of cars, this knife is wicked and will do whatever you ask of it. Be more sensible people really. That being said benchmade should make this knife in a budget friendly 154cm model that's easier to sharpen for the masses, and have 2 versions of the same knife in different steels. The bug out , and the "budget bug out". Put a $60 price on the budget bug out in 154cm and boom, got a best seller. Could aalso change the color for the budget version too but dont really care I like the blue.
The bugout is sold with a total crap handle ! So that you have to buy after maket ( also far over priced ) handle scales out of the box ! And with the greed non customer loyalty butterfly price ! You can get the clone bugout in blue class with G10 scales for $40.00 ( D2 is better than s30v aka 440 ) !
Take it apart, Mix a bit of steel epoxy, fill in the scales square cut-outs. Its now a whole lot heavier and you wont be able to walk as far. Keep it BLUE thats the knife. If you can be arsed.
I liked the fact you knife baton with the bugout so much I subscribed! I like my bugout. Since I refuse to get a 940 that isn't a 940-1, I am glad the bugout can be the edc I don't mind losing or giving away to a friend in need of a good knife.
Not a big fan of super lightweight knives. But as a secondary or something you put in a pack that’s dedicated for light duty I bet that’s a great little blade.
I love my Bugouts. Sits so nicely in the pocket. I have a couple of the first production runs. I bought a bunch of them because I wanted to make sure I had a backup in case I broke it.
Advanced Knife Bro of course not. It would be a back up to my fixed blade.......but I'm glad you beat on yours so I don't have to. And for that thank you sir. Idk when I get mine I may do a hard use video. Haven't reviewed any of my folders yet
You should try and review other folders this same way on the torture test at the end. For science of course. I have been on the lookout for a folding knife that can do some light batonning (3in wide max), easy and quick to deploy, feathersticks well, and can use a firesteel on the back. Dream EDC here for this Alaskan.
I love that you point out all the nonsense nitpicks ppl have when it comes to knives. There is always some kind of silly little complaint. Its annoying when ppl do that. Love your honest reviews and way of speaking to the viewers. Keep up the awesome work bruddah!
give it a year and it will be 100 dollars more, like the 940 a few years ago you could get one for 150$ now they are well in the 200 range, as are most knives, like spyderco, i pretty much exclusivly buy kershaw now, reliable and good price, and amazing customer service.
I'm not one to complain, but a folding knife has no business being called a "bugout," it's ridiculous. They could at least make the spine sharp enough to strike a fire steel if they're going to call it the bugout. Something related to suvival, maybe? I dunno, just a thought.
Hey Advanced knife bro, I got a question for you. On my local CL, someone is selling a Bench Made Proper, Minigriptillian, Minibugout for $200. I only plan on keeping one (probably the bugout) and selling the rest. They seem to be in excellent condition, would you scoop this deal? I don't precisely NEED a new knife, but it almost seems too good to pass.
If those are in good shape I think it’s a good deal- as long as they’re legit. It’s a good way to get a small collection going and you could probably resell those and make over half your money back or more.
Sigh...It's a thin, lightweight knife made for CUTTING. A hard use test would be to cut something tough, using a lot of HAND pressure. The Bugout is the answer to the question, what is the lightest weight quality production knife I can buy? And what's with all the flinging...you know how to adjust the pivot, right? Bend a pocket clip until it is just right...for you?
Oh good a standard RU-vid knifesplainer, who watches a single one of my videos... and sighs and groans- because no one knows as much about knives as he does. Keep it up dude. Believe me, you’re not the only one right now rolling their eyes.
Good video as always Bro. Two months ago I bought the new " Benchmade 560 Freek" and am very happy with it. Priced at $110 with s30v and part of the handle has the same material as the "Bugout". If you get the chance a review and comparison would be great
hypervigilance1 Haha funny you say that I have that exact knife in my pocket right now! I also live in California but the county laws are what you need to watch out for.
Nutnfancy will go nuts ower this due to its weight.. "A guy sitting on the porch and talking for hours". Haha lol you got almost all the channels and you tubers in that disclaimer. 👍
Not really for self defense. You're likely to piss someone off with that thing than incapacitate them, yet alone a bear in the woods with all its grizzly strength. But a perfect pocket knife to have nonetheless. Cut fruit, jerky, sculpt wood, make tinder, clean fish and rabbits and chicken, a work tool, etc.

I suggest all knife company should make the handle blade space tapered customized to the blade to add more stability in closed blade centering, handle durability and aesthetic geometry.
Hey man my 10 year old son and I love watching your channel. Unfortunately the cursing is something that I can't let him watch. I appreciate all the hard work that you put into the reviews.
I mean like a fixed blade... no... but it depends on what you mean by outdoors. If you hike and are a boring outdoor bro who doesn't bushcraft, what's wrong with it? It isn't for cleaning game or batoning- but it's durable and light. That is the perfect knife for a backpacker- especially ones who count grams and need a decent sized knife that's one of the lightest.
I have changed my strategy - I now only buy Chris Reeve, Zero Tolerance or Cold Steel - the only 3 makers that I personally have never experienced an off center blade. Spyderco is also extremely good.
I have my endura4 in zdp189 and love it .But now I'm considering selling that knife and buy the Spyderco caly3.5 (zdp189/420j)in carbon fiber handle and this one.would you suggest that?thanks^_^
With the Caly you'd get a slightly smaller lighter weight knife, and a slicker handle. I would assume both have a pretty similar hand feel. I dunno I'd prefer the longer blade of the endura... both have the same lockup- so there's no fun factor upgrade. The Caly looks nicer? I literally have no idea... both have pros and cons- But I personally wouldn't upgrade if it was me. People want different things out of a knife.
thank you ! the zdp-189 on the caly3.5 is harden to 67HRC , which is almost as hard as Maxamet...,that is a point I considered.Another point is that the FRN handle on the endura is kind of too flexible, makes the blade not that stable under hard use.Anyway thanks for your advice :) ,I think I will take the paramilitary2 in s110v
Be yourself and keep up the cussing. Your humor is what sells your channel that and you're not a liar. Looks like a good sturdy knife. I like my bm contego and 550hg griptilian a lot.
Make me chuckle once... Shame on me. I chuckled twice... Shame on you! I bust a gut flat out for about the 5th time in a single knife review... Subbed. I really liked your vid man keep it up.
Absolutely will do. I just finished the slow-mo cold steel video and once again... laughter and hilarity ensued. Thanks for bringing a fresh perspective to the industry. Stats are always great, but I can google stats. The people want to be entertained! You do a great job of providing the stats, your own personal opinions, sharing opinions of your other followers with an open mind (too bad its blue) while also providing a fresh narrative that stays light and entertaining throughout.
Spyderco's excuse for off-centered blades is the liner lock (even though Ganzo can do it right), so what's Benchmade's excuse? ...or is it just a "Made in USA - trademark feature"?
@@AdvancedKnifeBro Hey, thank you for response! the I wasn't completely serious with my comment but judged on my Spydercos and Byrds, all liner locks came off center but none of the back locks. ....however it should never be the case I'm this price class.
