The Benchmade 940 Osborne is one of the iconic standards in a collection. When I found the "-1" variant, with premium steel and carbon fibre body, I fell in love. It hasn't disappointed.
Just came across your videos when researching the quite carry IQ. Great videos, great detail, no nonsense and covers all the bases and doesn’t go so fast you can’t hear what’s being said , Thank you. It fun to watch the reviews of the knives I have and the ones I’m considering. Just for info on the Benchmade axis lock , the gritty will go away after some use, they actually get quite smooth. I also put a dab of oil on that area after break in. The other thing which may know already, considering this is two years old, is the axis is made to use with one side, you don’t have to , nor is it meant to pull back both sides to close the knife.
I ENJOYED YOUR REVIEW OF THE 940-1... YOU HANDLED IT GENTLY WITHOUT THE WHIPPER SNAPPER EFFECTS THAT ARE CONTINUOUS WITH MOST USERS... I SHOULD COLLECT AT LEAST ONE OF THESE... I ENJOY AIRCRAFT & THEIR CONSTRUCTION... SOME OF THE MOST PRIZED AIRCRAFT ARE CONSTRUCTED OF CARBON FIBER... THAT IS REASON FOR MY APPRECIATION...
better get some spare spring ! all of my benchmade springs have broken and my crooked river mini was delivered with a broken spring and the other one broke shortly after !
Yup. Got the g10 mini version then the 940og then 945 classic. The 945 classic is my main carry followed by the og. I don’t really carry my other knives much anymore
there is no such thing as a reverse tanto ! they just didn't want to say that it is a modified spey blade ( cutting nuts I guess is not PC enough for their marketing ) !
As for the dirt accumulation, I think it's a form of selection bias. The 940-1 has places that collect dirt that are easily visible. This also makes detecting and cleaning easy. Let's remember all knives collect dirt equally. You don't seem to think other knives are as bad as the 940-1. Toi me, this implies the other knives are collecting dirt in hidden and inaccessible areas. Benchmade makes good knife parts, they just can put them together without issue. It seems the person who answers the phone has a lot to do with it. I have noticed this with many things. I had a phone bill issue and was told I was going to pay no matter what. I called the next day to scream at someone, but this person listened, understood and fixed the issue without me being a jerk first. Random note: I have been collecting for about 12 years. Benchmade was one of the first brands I got into after my few months with Gerber and Kershaw. I had a 940-1 as soon as it was released. My last knife was an Infidel about a year ago. I fear Benchmade is in trouble. Right or wrongly accused, their fault or not... they have been through it the last several years. This years releases solidified my departure from the company.
As another old fart I can personally agree with the QC issues at Benchmade. My first Grip and my first Osborne were both sent back to my dealer. All kind of issues. And a 25 euro Ganzo comes with top notch quality, sent to me free from China. Weird eh??? But when these Benchmade finally work as they should, they can last you a lifetime.
I guess I had lucky timing - I've heard about BM going through a rough patch with quality issues, then recovering. I must have started collecting at the right time, after the rocky period, because my BenchMades have all been good - never had to send anything back. (I have done regular maintenance myself, and some tune-ups on items bought used.) Above, I first wrote "my BMs have all been good", then decided that might be interpreted incorrectly.
@@OldFartLikesKnives wel, I just bought them in the last half year, from a wel known dealer here in Europe. And I maintain, sharpen and if I like to, mod my knives myself. The second Grip, the large 20cv sheepfoot, was fine, gave it a 25• angle mirror edge which works absolutely great! The second 940, green version, needed some work and locktite, stil not completely centered, but works ok. And my favourite one, best cutting edge length to full length ratio according to me.
True, on some axis locking knives. However most 940-1's you have to pull down on two sides (based on my experience with the one I own) because its a straight rod with two s springs (one on each side of the handle) so if you pull on one side, one spring will be fully depressed while the other isnt, so it creates a sort of friction that prevents it from gliding freely and you have to either use your thigh or other hand to close it without the assist of gravity or centrifugal force. but 90% of the time, yes, you can open axis locks with one side depressed. :)
