I watched this last night with great interest since I just bought it from Blade HQ However I got mine on Christmas Special for $144 and feel really happy to score a knife I have wavered over buying for $200 for such a bargain price And it IS a bargain I absolutely love it and was ecstatic to hear you say the same BtW for some reason I had lost my subscription to your channel and just subscribed again this morning God bless you Rob
Couldn’t agree more about this 940 variant. I got two of them immediately when they dropped. Nice job as always, Rob. Merry Christmas to you and the family.
Just got delivery of 2 new knives today (09/09/2023). A 945 with green aluminum scales and a 940BK-2004. Action on the 940 was drop-shut out of the box with no blade movement. The 945 needs to be snap closed but it's starting to drop. You're right Rob. I got my first 940 last 08/19/2023 and it has become my favorite folding knife.
If I could like this video a hundred times, I would. I've watched the video a bunch of times and just bought my SECOND 940 in M4. My first has custom brass scales. This one will be kept bone stock, because of course it will. For all the reasons you mention here. The word and our 940's are sharp!
I received mine. And within 2 days it was perfect. Like butter. The M4 blade is thee best steel out there. And this is a fantastic knife if you like to fidget with your knife.
Done. Thanks for the tip, and you do indeed have my gratitude . Still waiting patiently for the next episode of Traditional Knife Anthology..... Merry Christmas!
They were sold out but resurfaced today 12-22 due to the flippers cancelling their large orders b/c this iteration was LIVE for a few days indicating the desirability was not as high as it was anticipated.
There was a huge order too. I heard that you have to order at least 3k from Benchmade for an exclusive. I don't know how true that is but the guy who said it is a Benchmade dealer and said he attempted to do an exclusive but couldn't when he had to order that many. It looked like BHQ was hinting at more of these coming too when they posted that this first run will sell fast so assuming there will be more eventually.
I picked one up shortly after it dropped. While the 940 is nice and slim, my thick paws seem to grip the PM2 much better. After carrying it for a short time I gravitated back to the Spyderco. Nice addition to the EDC collection. Merry Christmas.
Bought 2 upon your initial update. 1 for me, 1 for my son in law for Xmas. When I got them, I immediately bought 2 pm2 maxamet knives. He got 1 for Xmas and I am keeping the 940 m4’s. . As always, thanks Rob.
I agree,i have 3 940s including the new jade, out of all my knives the 940 is the one knife i always have in my pocket, and rotating other knives in other pocket
I've got one and it is very cool. Joined my family of other 940s. Have you seen the 940-1702? Green G10 with purple standoffs? An ode to the original. Then there's the new 945BK. So much 940 goodness out there these days. Glad you picked up this one.
I am also a Benchmade 940 and a CPM M4 fan. I usually buy my Benchmades through the Military Exchange, but I bought this BladeHQ exclusive, despite the retail price and insanely high Kansas sales tax.
I had the same problem, I loved my aluminum 940 so much, that I bought a brand new one in aluminum as well and kept that one as my shelf queen and absolutely beet and he crap out of my original one👍
Well Rob I wasn't really looking at picking up another 940, but since got a notification that Blade HQ has a limited number back in stock. I just wanted to say....my Starbucks coffee budget has been severely hurt because of you! Thanks for the review, and happy new year :)
I got one it’s okay. I got a 9400 at the same time. I have been carrying a 940-1 for so long now I can’t get it out of my pocket. As I have no trouble with s90v
I swapped a 940-1 cf handle with this Blade HQ exclusive and created my ALL TIME favorite EDC. It’s now exactly all the materials I’ve always wanted in a 940 (M4, CF and COMPLETELY blacked hardware) and now looks absolutely amazing to me. The only small gripe I had with my Blade HQ knife when I got it was that it was shockingly dull out of box... like not even a remote ability to cut any type of paper cleanly. It wasn’t a big deal at all to me to sharpen myself but still kinda surprising to leave the factory the way it was. 🤷♂️
I just got one yesterday. Cost me $200 but I absolutely LOVE IT! I work in a locomotive garage so I won’t be using it for EDC. Would ruin the beautiful handles. Best believe it comes with me on weekends though!
What are they going for on eBay? Last time I check they were still affordable. Maybe $40 more than retail. Never mind. Just saw they are back in stock.
Thanks For another stellar review Mr P :) You just pushed me over the edge as I’ve been on the fence since it’s drop. Just pulled the trigger and have one in route 👍🏻👊🏻
03/10/21 - They JUST had both the 940BK-2004 and the Spyderco PM2 M4 Tanto in natural G-10 back in stock and I grabbed both! HOLY COW! They're now GONE!
Mines in the mail. That makes it 3. 940 og, 940-2 micarta scales swap out with orange g10 geared backspacer and now jade g10/m4. My first double up, now triple up. And I have the 945 classic
I know you’ve found what you’re looking for Rob, but REI has a version of the 940-2 called the -1702. It has dark green G10 with purple backspacers to match the original, with an S30V blade.
i just got that same jade m4 version and I thought that maybe I needed to clean mine because it felt really gritty so i took it apart and I noticed that around the pivot where the washers sit are really aggressive machining patterns and it felt sharp around the pivot hole and i started looking closer and it is pitting pretty badly on both sides and along the tang where the lock interacts with the blade. i got it maybe two months ago brand new and it’s been clean and dry this whole time.
I got mine in a few days ago. Finally! I really love the size shape blade material and the Axis lock. Really the perfect size for an EDC! But the natural G10 looks much better on video. I see and hear it called Jade. It is definitely not Jade or any shade of Jade. Looks like they melted a milk jug and made a handle. I know I have no taste though.
I don't like that 'wedgy'reverse tanto blade either,(I have a 943)but man,jade,blacked out,AND M4,mine is on the way!I have a pm2 blacked out jade,and it is one of the most beautiful peices I own
I like a thin knife. The 940 is one of if not my favorite knife from Benchmade. I prefer Spyderco to Benchmade but I really like the 940. I don't care for the aluminum though. I have the BHQ m4 if it ever shows up and a few others and I have the 943 too. Be nice if USPS would bring me my m4 940 lol.
I got mine from the first drop and I too plan on using the heck out of it! It looks amazing and came quite sharp, but wish I had a wicked edge to polish up the edge a bit. I prefer a noncoated blade and wish the steel was Elmax. But, am I unhappy? Not at all.
@@TheApostleP just discovered your channel in the last week or so but enjoy the videos. Just got edge pro so I’m trying to soak up knowledge from people that know what they’re doing
Everybody knows you love 940s, only got the one and only, your original and even got my old code name put on the blade, I thought that was cool. Para 2 and my 940, best EDC so far for me. Only allowed to carry outside if hunting in the UK, I which case I use a fixed blade for birdies and fish. You understand we all like a nice man thing, even the ones we never gonna use eg, need I?
New to collecting/using knives that cost a little more than I'm accustomed to paying . I was considering the 940-1 But heard that the steel is very hard to sharpen, and edge chips easy. But any knife that I buy, I'm gonna use . So this brings me to the 940 in your video. I've avoided the black blades, because of worrying about scratches from heavy use, such as stripping elec cable. So do these black blades scratch easily ?
So here's a question for you ApostleP. I already have, love, and carry most of the time, a 9400. I considered getting the 940 in M4, but I just don't know if the 940BK-2004 would see much pocket time over the auto. I'm thinking the 940BK would pretty much be just a backup for the 9400, am I thinking right here?
I might be the wrong guy to ask on that one, Arch. I would consider the manual 940 the user, and the 9400 kind of a fun novelty variant. It’s not as strong as the Axis Lock manual mechanism. It’s not really faster to open, and not nearly as easy to close. Still a fun knife though.
@@TheApostleP Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, that's funny, I had the same kind of things go through my mind while I sat here playing with the 9400. I just ordered the 940 in M4. Merry Christmas to myself I guess! YOLO!!
@@kyklain86 thanks for the update. I did check and you’re right. It’s really weird because I called Blade HQ and they told me they were out of stock? I ordered!
The Achilles Heel of all Benchmade folders is the weak Axis lock spring. If they used the same lock as the one the Anthem then this model would indeed be perfect.
Ha thats a great comparison! Some people are attracted to odd things. I detest this knife. I tried to like it I really did, so overhyped and overrated. It's as ugly as apostle Ps thumbs!
@@trentsapp731 Right?! I too think it's one of the ugliest knives Benchmade ever produced. In my eyes, the lines/profile of it resemble a hunching old man.
