Looking forward to ALL your comments whether you like Benchmade or not. I try to reply to all of them. You know who reads your comments? Benchmade.

I fully agree on the Bailout. I own 21 Benchmades and the Bailout is in my pocket 75% of the time I'd estimate.

I have maybe 13 benchmades and 7 spydercos and every day is so hard to decide which knife to carry. I usually find myself taking Spyderco to work because i get wet and filthy and dusty and they are easier to take apart and clean. Ajd Benchmade at home, in the yard, woods etc. Benchmade makes better fixed blades. Spyderco uses more cool steels and better hear treat. Benchmade has more variety in knife styles and shapes. And i love all the knives i have but that green tagged out, wow. So slicey. Bigger blade than bugout. Great handle. And like Spyderco, they treat their S45VN harder than their s30v. But that tagged out just goes through everything like butter with more size and better piercing than bugout. With select edge. Crazy good knife

That Tagged out was my choice for 2023 knife of the year. Not the flawed MSI, like every pasty-faced tender-hanged reviewer was raging about out there.

i have 530 - great knife. i actually stopped following knife industry around 2017 and copletely missed launch of bugout. couple years ago i started watching knife videos again and was truly amazed by bugout's popularity. it is clearly 530-inspired, and 530 was very niche product: extremely light, but not short (3.25 feels much better that 3 and especially sub-3 inch blade), positioned it as knife for bagpackers, as you mentioned. what happened? how marketing made бг-out best seller edc? i don't remember so much hype around 530. literally "millenials discovered" meme. light knife, wow!

I don't like Bugout - too boring for me and too weak in basic version. The same was about Bailout in plastic version and big oops with soft 3V steel on it. But Bailout M4 was a game changer - I was in love and bought it several years ago. Strong as for that size and with good steel. And I like Taggedout, but I bought SRM 9201 - very similar, but, it seems, was produced even earlier than Taggedout. Nice and extremely cheap analogue, but not copy. P.s. after some period of using and pocket life - Bailout usually has some vertical play. And it is ok after cleaning. I changed factory springs to more powerful - play is smaller.

What a great series! My better half gifted my first Benchmade: Grizzly Creek. So far my collection has grown ( not to the extent yours has ) and I’ve gotta say I love the 940- and its beefcake son: 810 Contego. The pocket knife history is deeply interesting- thanks for delving into it.

Trying to decide between the Hogue Deka in magnacut and the Benchmade Taggedout in s45vn. Which of these would you recommend for someone who is an average user (lots of cardboard, straps and light duty work) who rarely has to push their knife into less than ideal roles (prying, screwdriver, etc.)? I’m coming from a knife in D2
@CuttingBoardRx
@CuttingBoardRx 9 месяцев назад
If you’ve been using D2 blade for a while without breaking off the tip or chipping the edge, based on your use case, I would suggest Deka tanto. If you absolutely hate that shape, Deka is offered in clip point. If you good with clip point shape, Taggedout offers better ergonomics for longer/harder uses than Deka due to the sculpted handle. Hope that helps!

I just purchased my first Benchmade, a mini Freek & haven't been able to put it down lol. So this video is much appreciated! I'm contemplating my next Benchmade was looking at all the "outs" wasn't aware of the history so this video helps alot! I'm leaning towards the Taggout or Bugout next but will probably end up buying many more Benchmades. Thanks for the video 👍

Bought myself a Gerber Sedulo as it seems to me to be a nice blend of Griptillian, Freek and Bugout features and adds a bronze bushing in place of bearings or washers.
@CuttingBoardRx
@CuttingBoardRx 9 месяцев назад
Sedulo a decent looking knife, I like the shape of the handle, but it weighs quite literally twice as much as the Bugout. That may not bother you or me, but some folks are willing to pay extra for shaving off 1.8 oz. BTW, most knife makers use terms Bushing, Washer, and Pack Bearing interchangeably. In the context of knife making, they all mean a flat piece of material with a hole in the middle.
@dougbotimer8005
@dougbotimer8005 9 месяцев назад
@@CuttingBoardRx The heft of the handle is definitely more like the Grip. I do like its girth as it is easier to grasp securely with my arthritis. The blade is the part I think more resembles the Bugout. By bushing I refer to the single piece of brass or bronze Gerber sets onto the blade and through which the pivot screw passes. Advantage, the blade steel and pivot pin are not wearing on each other. That style of bushing may wear out in time, but is replaceable. The other advantage I see of the bushing Gerber uses is easier disassembly and reassembly, no separate washers to place and align with the pivot. Gerber certainly doesn’t have the same image it once had, nor that of Benchmade, but in this one product they are delivering value in a knife that compares to popular Benchmade products.

I didn’t know the hardware in benchmade axis lock was titanium. Going to check mine out. Btw, where do you find lanyards with metal pins at the tips? Do you make them or order?

@tgonzalez1983 if you have a crooked river, definitely go with a bailout or even shootout. These steels are perfect for a very acute edge, you’ll end up with a light saber knife!

Tagged out in green G10 and S45VN is more premium option. Otherwise, even the most basic Bugout will be the greatest bang for your buck. That said, check out Hogue Deka Magnacut, Spyderco Manix 2 Light, and Benchmade Crooked River Mini as a great alternatives to either before pulling the trigger. ;)
