Let's be real here, there aren't that many who openly defy Putin. I just read an interesting little Russian joke which underlines this: About 30 % of Russians are alcoholics... the rest is in favor of Putin. The anti-Putin sentiment is strong in educated urban circles. Of which there aren't that many. Russia is a huge country with not a lot of big cities, and people have enough real problems in their life to not care too much about some political prisoner's death. The only thing that might swing opinions over time would be too many husbands and sons dying in a far away war.
