It appears that most of the people portrayed in this story are capable of working. I wish the mom of the teenager would set a higher example for her children. The mother should have gone to watch her daughter race, get involved with her. Help her achieve her goals and dreams.
I had the pleasure of working with SB this weekend at an exclusive event. She was a part of the staffing team. I complimented her on her style and she began to tell me she is a professional model. She also mentioned that she had been on this program, hence my reason for watching now. Not only is SB physically beautiful, but she also has a gorgeous soul. Looking back at her struggles several years ago documented on Benefits Street, I never would have thought this working alongside her. A wonderful and capable woman who is welcome back at future functions! :)
Not easy when someone goes through domestic violence, starting over is scary with ptsd, depression but for the kids, to give them peace and happiness is worth it. Things will get better... slowly but will get better
These fathers need to have their asses dragged into family court and made to contribute to their child’s up bringing. I don’t care if the fathers are even on benefits themselves…they should be made to contribute something, no matter how little their income.
Not to be rude, but you can understand why Funguy's son's new parents don't want anything to do with him. It could be quite a shock to his son seeing him as he is and maybe it is better to keep him away until his son is over 18 and and can then decide himself if he wants to see him. Clearly wouldn't be a positive role model. He lost any rights when he signed his son away.
Agree. Find a job that's readily available now for the short term. And look for modelling work on the side. I feel so bad for her and the dead beat dads who do nothing for their children. 🤬
@@nnyv0040 It''s sad to see guys mot stepping up and doing all they can for kids they are responsible for. It doesn't matter whart you do in your spare time as long as you're working and contributing towards their upbringing.
SB is beautiful and I hope she can break free of the poverty and get back into modelling. She looks like she could do catalogue or runway! Good luck to her !
I started out pregnant at 19. I lived in a basement flat with my baby and my sister. It was in London in 1975. It was a struggle. I’m 69 now. I’m not rich. I’ve worked to get what I have. No one gave me a thing. I was determined that my kids wouldn’t grow up in commission housing. They didn’t. I built a little house which I and my kids loved. It was home. You can do it.
Maybe don't talk about a time where everything was easier and apply it to now. We're now in developed capitalism, aka a hellhole so your advice is outdated.
I used to think like that, nothing good happens to me, I’m the unluckiest person in the world, my life is rubbish. Until I changed my thinking that was my life but you can switch from being a negative thinker to a positive thinker and when you do the world changes around you. I was an overweight heroin addict who didn’t look after myself, since I’ve changed my thinking I’ve gotten a job that I love, I’ve lost 8 stone in weight, I’ve taught myself how to play the guitar, I’m in a routine of exercise and healthy eating, I’ve stopped smoking and drinking and my life has completely changed! All because I’ve changed my perceptions of myself and the world when you do that the world around you changes and I’m living proof of that.
This was so wonderful to hear, that you put the effort in to changing your life for the better. It would not have been an easy journey for you, a lot of determination I would imagine, and you came through a shining star. As one already commented, we get one chance of life ..so live it happily and healthily, congratulations on such a fine, fine effort! Blessings🙏
White Dee annoys me She is trying to talk her kids out of getting work, saying that having a job would make them abnormal Sweetie, your street and lifestyle is unusual
Modelling is work. Not a hobby. And she has accumulated a good portfolio, experience, skill set and likely references. It's not like she's never modelled before and dreaming of becoming one.
And still nothings changed. Many people where I live claiming benefits and no intention of ever woking. No stress life, housing all paid, smoking drinking, takeaways. Broken Britain. Meanwhile we don't have enough NHS or care staff.
Armed robbery of a mc Donald's, best laugh I've had in a long time 🤣try that in the Philippines they have a security guard with a shotgun standing outside
How can you be telling your kids to sign on benefits and sit at home rather than look for a job or build a career for yourself? I thought it was meant to be a safety net to help those looking for employment, not to stay unemployed and never look to better yourself. If you're fit and healthy you should at least be looking for work and be a role model for your kids, otherwise they will simply follow in your footsteps and achieve nothing in life and we only get one shot at it so why not try to make the best of it as possible. Feels such a waste otherwise if you have no ambitions or goals. Without a decent education which gives you choices about how you want to live and not be constricted by a low income you will always struggle with low paid jobs. The African guy has the right attitude when he said he you don't work you don't eat and has brought that same ethos with him to the UK. There are plenty of jobs out there, you just have to be willing to do whatever it takes. Since Brexit there are many jobs available with so many foreign workers returning home, but are they getting filled? Not from the reports.
lol reminded me of my own "mum". never worked a day in life and criticised me and everything when i began working earlier this year. kept trying to convince me that i "don't need this job" and that i can claim on her carers allowance despite me not even caring for her (i live on my own). i love working. i signed on once in my life for 4 months as i was sofa surfing. absolutely hated it, i find working way less stressful than claiming. plus working means you actually have some sort of a life!
GO SB! YOU HAVE DONE SO WELL!! CONGRATULATIONS!! 🎉🎉 You had tough times but you fought yourself out of it and that’s something to be proud of, sweetheart! I heard that she became successful as a model and was able to leave James Turner St. behind.
is he called 'Funghi'? Bless him lol, no offence just funny. I've been through my fair share of shit so I do feel inspired by these people trying to make a better life.
Perhaps while exploiting these people, the film crew and producers could have helped out the likes of mark and Becky who was genuinely skint and literally hungry. They made enough money off this programme and didn't even give the people on it a hot meal, while they exploited them! Disgrace !
1:27 the fact she thinks that’s a flex. 2:45 and she’s clearly trying to encourage her kids to go on benefits their whole lives. absolute disgrace of a mother
Children become who they are from how they are brought up! Those kids, when becoming adults will have experienced and seen the life of benefits dependant people, that being their mother! They can choose to follow that life or decide to want more in life!
@@originalunoriginal4055 Sorry mate I meant the bit theyre referencing in the original comment being a flex. 1:23 What does she say? Sounds like I'm never living out my kids
As soon as they hit rock bottom they want to come back about they miss their family. So many men do this all the time. The nursing homes and long term care😔 homes prove this 🤷🏽♀️
I grew up in government housing around people like this. Druggies, single mothers with multiple kids to multiple men, ex cons. Being around that motivated me to work hard because i saw what my future looked like. I'm now a nurse, own my own care and have money in the bank. I flipped the switch. Unfortunately many of the kids i grew up have continued that cycle.
Same here. Growing up in the projects (Detroits version of the council houses), lit a fire under me! I kept a job. Retired & disabled now, that I’m older. But, without working I wouldn’t have my social security or pension🤷🏽♀️
they could stretch their dollars more if they'd quit smoking ! that costs a lot of their money, plus the added health issues it causes to themselves and those around it , anther added cost, i get it, its an addiction, but there are treatments, and help for it.
SB would have got on really good if she was prepared.. She gave her walk and when they asked why she should be here, she gave 1 sentence answers, she should have elaborated.. That's all, she should have said "It's something I've always wanted to do because........" and "this is why I love this....." etc.. She could have almost made a conversation with the judges instead of 1 word answers... Just my opinion
There are lazy, dirty you know whats, who only want to sit, smoke, drink and do dr😂ugs. Then there are TRULY desperate people, that need a hand up. It's up to the correct government to discern between the 2. Help the needy and punish the lazy. No more monies for cigarettes or booze. Monitor their spending habits. Make them clean up their houses and areas. Demand that property owners take care of their rental properties. Etc
White dee saying "everyone deserves to see their kids no matter what has gone on" bullshit! I usually agreed with most of the stuff she said but not that!!
This show proves that Channel 4 doesn’t care about people’s mental health and wellbeing. They just want your money and they couldn’t care less about the people they film. They’re exploiting the vulnerable for views and it’s a scary thought that a company would do that. Channel 4 should be held accountable for this and all the other terrible ideas they’ve made over the years. Honestly, the people at Channel 4 should be shovelling horse manure as a more honourable way to make a living.
Well, sad to say, that many people do. I think when you have next to nothing and daily life is such a struggle with underlying factors … ones mindset is not functioning like that of yours or mine. Keeping house, particularly in Fungi’s case, and him being a male, cleaning is most likely the least of his worries, I’d imagine. I can’t judge when I don’t walk in the shoes of others but wish Fungi the very best in getting the opportunity to see his children… he appears to be trying so hard.
Mental health and addiction is an issue in uk and hes clearly an under developed grown man he needs long term key worker support unfortunately its not available
Having no job is not as great as it seems. I am on Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) here in the United States and, through no fault of my own, I can’t work. I was on life support about two weeks ago due to a 17th bout and extremely serious bout of pneumonia that almost killed me. I also have several other dangerous medical conditions that are preventing me from working. Thank God I’m still alive today. I worked for 31 years and I do miss it. I am going back to church again tomorrow and I’m REALLY looking forward to that. My pastor visited me several times in the ICU and on the regular ward when I was in the hospital. He talked to me and prayed with me. He is truly a man of God. I have had so many serious medical issues over the last 20 years that my doctors are really surprised that I’m still alive today. I was able to work until a few years ago when I had to stop because I just got too sick. I miss having a job.
I'm in a similar situation being on ssdi and wanting to work but my body won't allow it. I miss it too. Stay strong and keep fighting! There's a reason for everything and reason you're still here! I don't go to church but I'm glad your faith is strong and your church there for you. You got this!
I could not be like some u lot,Sit at home all your lives sponging of the British Tax payers,Expect free hand outs all your lives, from all us British tax payers,Sitting in doors 24 - 7 days a week would drive me up the wall.....Lockdown was bad enough !!!!!!!
Fungi the deadbeat father who neglected his children for 20 years, an ex drug addict, alcoholic, criminal including armed robbery, shoplifter, and a top notch benefit scrounger. Yeah he is one hell of a likeable bloke.
For those gassing about white Dee, she's a typical salt of the earth british mother. She is laughs and banter. Bright side of the coin type thing. Council estate living isn't easy. It's a challnge in itself.
It's not an estate though. It's a street of privately owned houses (albeit ones rented out). Nothing to do with council housing. Dee makes working class people look bad, and makes people who have no idea about hardship think benefits are wasted on people who have no interest in contributing (it's supposed to be a safety net not something you rely on permanently). I don't know her story so I won't judge, but I also won't celebrate her. She is a fucking character though!
@@muzi2672 it's a perfect example of landlords that don't give a fuck but cream the system too. Look at Fungis House. No electric or water. Disrepair but paid for by the state and no responsibility on the owners behalf because Fungi is seen as a lesser being. It's not an estate you're right but it has all the characteristics and characters to boot with the same working class (lower class closeness). Community etc. Looking out for each other. There is more to say about the rich not paying their share which makes services and support unfundable for the poorest in Britain. Lack of youth groups, community interest groups. No funding for supporting these disadvantaged people. It's a shame. I've met Dee, she's lovely. Especially after her break she was able to kick start her life again. It's a shame it took ridiculing her amd her kin for that to happen. I know people like everyone in the series. The forgotten. Is what it is though. There are opportunities for folk but sometimes people need support which isn't there when it's needed without lily padding to gain it.
@@janes9264 fair play to her. People knock folk for being on benefits when the biggest scroungers are the people at the top hiding money and getting bonuses. Hats off to her I say. Had a moment and capitalised on it and still frowned upon, some people just cant do right eh.
The way food banks work over there is cruel, in New Zealand you just rock up, no papper work, no limit to the times you can visit, no questions, they just hand out food to people who need it.
Unfortunately over here, it has to be this way as it would be totallly abused by people who didnt need help..but just wanted something for nothing..sad but true.
Hope catlin is doing well in her life 🙏everyone really well done to the mum you are a model and too your kids aswell a role model. That's the gift.Irish ❤
Deze kinderen krijgen geen voorbeeld. De ouders moeten beginnen met hun rommel op te ruimen en te poetsen. Samen aan tafel ook al is er niet veel. Beleefdheid en routine
It seems to be the trend nowadays for kids to take their food into their bedrooms instead of joining the parents at the table; sadly politeness and good manners tend to have gone with past standards being ignored.
Cuz ppl watch em lookit the views. They callit poverty porn but most ppl that watch are in the same socioeconomic situation. Weird, innit? Edit: n bro none of these ppl are working class (except the immigrants it seems!) they are lower class
You all people judge man a pack of cigs could mean life or death for dee to judge others is not a good thing man you are not perfect remember we all are sinners God is the only one who can judge us
